LUMBINI NEPAL
Lumbinī (Nepali and Sanskrit: लुम्बिनी listen (help•info), "the lovely") is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi District of Nepal. It is the place where, according to Buddhist tradition, Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama in 563 BCE.[1][2] Gautama, who achieved Enlightenment some time around 528 BCE,[3][4] became the Buddha and founded Buddhism.[5][6][7]Lumbini is one of many magnets for pilgrimage that sprang up in places pivotal to the life of the Buddha.
Lumbini has a number of temples, including the Mayadevi Temple and several others which are still under repair. Many monuments, monasteries and a museum, the Lumbini International Research Institute, are also within the holy site. Also there is the Puskarini, or Holy Pond, where the Buddha's mother took the ritual dip prior to his birth and where he had his first bath. At other sites near Lumbini, earlier Buddhas were, according to tradition, born, then achieved ultimate Enlightenment and finally relinquished their earthly forms
In the Buddha's time, Lumbini was situated in east of Kapilavastu and southwest Devadaha of Shakya kingdom of Nepal.[8][9] It was there, that the Buddha was born.[10] A pillar discovered in 1896 (and erected thereafter at Rummindei) is believed to mark the spot of Ashoka's visit to Lumbini. The site was not known as Lumbini before the pillar was discovered.[11] According to an inscription on the pillar, it was placed there by the people then in charge of the park to commemorate Ashoka's visit and gifts.[12] The park was previously known as Rummindei, 2 mi (2 mi (3.2 km)) north of Bhagavanpura.
The Sutta Nipáta (vs. 683) states that the Buddha was born in a village of the Sákyans in the Lumbineyya Janapada. The Buddha stayed in Lumbinívana during his visit to Devadaha and there preached the Devadaha Sutta.
In 1896, Nepalese archaeologists (led by Khadga Samsher Rana and assisted by Alois Anton Führer) discovered a great stone pillar at Lumbini, according to the crucial historical records made by the ancient Chinese monk-pilgrim Xuanzang in the 7th century CE. Führer postulated that the pillar was placed at the site by Ashoka (emperor of the Maurya Empire) circa 245 BCE. Records made by another ancient Chinese monk-pilgrim Faxian in the early 5th century CE, were also used in the process of identifying this religiously acclaimed site.
Recent excavations beneath existing brick structures at the Mayadevi Temple at Lumbini have uncovered evidence for an older timber structure beneath the walls of the newer brick Buddhist shrine, which was constructed during the Ashokan era. The layout of the Ashokan shrine closely follows that of the earlier timber structure, which suggests a continuity of worship at the site. The pre-Mauryan timber structure appears to be an ancient bodhigara (tree shrine), consisting of postholes and a wooden railing surrounding a clay floor containing mineralized tree roots that appears to have been worn smooth by visitors. Radiocarbon dating of charcoal from the wooden postholes and optically stimulated luminescence dating of elements in the soil suggests human activity (possibly pre-Buddhist tree worship) began at the site around 1000 BCE, followed by the development of a Buddhist monastery-like community by approximately 550 BCE
Lumbini is 4.8 km (3 mi) in length and 1.6 km (1.0 mi) in width. The holy site of Lumbini is bordered by a large monastic zone in which only monasteries can be built, no shops, hotels or restaurants. It is separated into an eastern and western monastic zone, the eastern having the Theravadin monasteries, the western having Mahayanaand Vajrayana monasteries.
The holy site of Lumbini has ruins of ancient monasteries, a sacred Bodhi tree, an ancient bathing pond, the Ashokan pillar and the Mayadevi Temple, where the supposed place of birth of Buddha is located. From early morning to early evening, pilgrims from various countries perform chanting and meditation at the site.
A non-governmental organization named Samriddhi Foundation started in 2013 working extensively in the field of education and health specially in government schools of the area where underprivileged children study. A non-governmental organisation called "Asia Pacific Exchange and Cooperation Foundation" (APECF) backed by chairman of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist)and then Prime Minister Prachanda, the Chinese government and a UN group called "United Nations Industrial Development Organization" (UNIDO) signed a deal to develop Lumbini into a "special development zone" with funds worth $3 billion.[15] The venture was a China-UN joint project. A broader 'Lumbini Development National Director Committee' under the leadership of Pushpa Kamal Dahal was formed on 17 October 2011.[16] The six-member committee included Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) leader Mangal Siddhi Manandhar, Nepali Congress leader Minendra Rijal, Forest Minister Mohammad Wakil Musalman, among other leaders. The committee was given the authority to "draft a master plan to develop Lumbini as a peaceful and tourism area and table the proposal" and the responsibility to gather international support for the same.

13 is significant, whether you consider it lucky, unlucky or just plain odd. Many believe it to be unfortunate…
…because there were 13 present at the Last Supper.
…Loki crashed a party of 12 at Valhalla, which ended in Baldur’s death.
…Oinomaos killed 13 of Hippodamia’s suitors before Pelops finally, in his own shady way, defeated the jealous king.
…In ancient Rome, Hecate’s witches gathered in groups of 12, the Goddess herself being the 13th in the coven.
Concern over the number thirteen echoes back beyond the Christian era. Line 13 was omitted form the Code of Hammurabi.
The shivers over Friday the 13th also have some interesting origins:
…Christ was allegedly crucified on Friday the 13th.
…On Friday, October 13, 1307, King Philip IV of France ordered the arrests of Jaques de Molay, Grand Master of the Knights Templar, and sixty of his senior knights.
…In British custom, hangings were held on Fridays, and there were 13 steps on the gallows leading to the noose.
To combat the superstition, Robert Ingersoll and the Thirteen Club held thirteen-men dinners during the 19th Century. Successful? Hardly. The number still invokes trepidation to this day. A recent whimsical little serial killer study showed that the following murderers all have names that total thirteen letters:
Theodore Bundy
Jeffrey Dahmer
Albert De Salvo
John Wayne Gacy
And, with a little stretch of the imagination, you can also fit “Jack the Ripper” and “Charles Manson” into that equation.
More current-era paranoia: modern schoolchildren stop their memorization of the multiplication tables at 12. There were 13 Plutonium slugs in the atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki. Apollo 13 wasn’t exactly the most successful space mission. All of these are things that modern triskaidekaphobes point to when justifying their fears.
For some, 13 is an extremely fortuitous and auspicious number…
…In Jewish tradition, God has 13 Attributes of Mercy. Also, there were 13 tribes of Israel, 13 principles of Jewish faith, and 13 is considered the age of maturity.
…The ancient Egyptians believed that there were 12 stages of spiritual achievement in this lifetime, and a 13th beyond death.
…The word for thirteen, in Chinese, sounds much like the word which means “must be alive”.
Thirteen, whether you love it or loathe it, is a pretty cool number all around.
…In some theories of relativity, there are 13 dimensions.
…It is a prime number, lucky number, star number, Wilson Prime, and Fibonacci number.
…There are 13 Archimedean solids.
AND…
…There were 13 original colonies when the United States were founded.
Says a lot about the US, doesn’t it?

We have this convenient half-wall in our family room. This wall just happens to be strategically placed where we come in from the garage, and is also right at the door that leads to the basement. So it's where everything gets plopped as soon as you come in, or its the holding area for things that need to go to the basement, but you just can't bring yourself to traverse that flight of stairs. Tonight we have a pair of stage/dancing shoes sitting on top of music for the school play, an upside down baseball cap (we don't even wear them), the program for last weekend's swim finals, the official cast book for "Addams Family", some picture hanges, caulk, a travel-size bottle of shampoo, some William & Mary window stencils with markers, a portable phone, some glue, and a huge dice with odd symbols on each side, I think from a kid's meal at Chik-fil-a.

The Dashanzi factory complex began as an extension of the "Socialist Unification Plan" of military-industrial cooperation between the Soviet Union and the newly formed People's Republic of China. By 1951, 156 "joint factory" projects had been realized under that agreement, part of the Chinese government's first Five-Year Plan. However, the People's Liberation Army still had a dire need of modern electronic components, which were produced in only two of the joint factories. The Russians were unwilling to undertake an additional project at the time and suggested that the Chinese turn to East Germany where much of the Soviet Union's electronics equipment was imported. So at the request of then-Premier Zhou Enlai, scientists and engineers joined the first Chinese trade delegation to East Germany in 1951, visiting a dozen factories. The project was green-lighted in early 1952 and a Chinese preparatory group was sent to East Berlin to prepare design plans. This project, which was to be the largest by East Germany in China, was then informally known as Project #157.
The architectural plans were left to the Germans, who chose a functional Bauhaus-influenced design over the more ornamental Soviet style, triggering the first of many disputes between the German and Russian consultants on the project. The plans, where form follows function, called for large indoor spaces designed to let the maximum amount of natural light into the workplace. Arch-supported sections of the ceiling would curve upwards then fall diagonally along the high slanted banks or windows; this pattern would be repeated several times in the larger rooms, giving the roof its characteristic sawtooth-like appearance. Despite Beijing's northern location, the windows were all to face north because the light from that direction would cast fewer shadows.
The chosen location was a 640,000 square meter area in Dashanzi, then a low-lying patch of farmland northeast of Beijing. The complex was to occupy 500,000 square meters, 370,000 of which were allocated to living quarters. It was officially named Joint Factory 718, following the Chinese government's method of naming military factories starting with the number 7. Fully funded by the Chinese side, the initial budget was enormous for the times: 9 million rubles or approximately 140 million RMB (US$17 million) at today's rates; actual costs were 147 million RMB.
Ground was broken in April 1954. Construction was marked by disagreements between the Chinese, Soviet and German experts, which led at one point to a six-month postponement of the project. The Germans' harshest critic was the Russian technology consultant in charge of Beijing's two Soviet-built electronics factories (714 and 738), who was also head consultant of the Radio Industrial Office of the Second Ministry of Machine Building Industry. The disputes generally revolved around the Germans' high but expensive quality standards for buildings and machines, which were called "over-engineering" by the Russians. Among such points of contention was the Germans' insistence, historical seismic data in hand, that the buildings be built to withstand earthquakes of magnitude 8 on the Richter scale, whereas the Chinese and Russians wanted to settle for 7. Communications expert Wang Zheng, head of Communications Industry in the Chinese Ministry of National Defense and supporter the East German bid from the start, ruled in favor of the Germans for this particular factory.
At the height of the construction effort, more than 100 East German foreign experts worked on the project. The resources of 22 of their factories supplied the construction; at the same time, supply delays were caused by the Soviet Red Army's tremendous drain on East Germany's industrial production. The equipment was transported directly through the Soviet Union via the Trans-Siberian railway, and a 15 km track of railroad between Beijing railway station and Dongjiao Station was built especially to service the factory. Caltech-educated scientist Dr. Luo Peilin (罗沛霖), formerly head of the preparatory group in 1951-1953, was Head Engineer of Joint Factory 718 during its construction phase. Dr. Luo, now retired in Beijing, is remembered by his former colleagues as a dedicated perfectionist whose commitment to the obstacle-strewn project was a major factor of its eventual success.

Exactly one week after a powerful earthquake struck Sichuan Province, China began a three-day national mourning for the tens of thousands of people killed on May 12. The national flag was flown at half mast across the country including Tian'anmen Square in downtown Beijing. All public amusements including movie theatres, nightclubs, and other such activities were suspended for three days from Monday. The Government ordered a nationwide display of respect for the dead.
The public stood in silence for three minutes at 2:28 pm on Monday 19 May, a week after the time the deadly quake hit, while air-raid sirens were sounded. And on Sunday, China Seismological Bureau Sunday revised the magnitude of the earthquake from 7.8 to 8.0 on the Richter scale.
The confirmed death toll from the disaster has risen to 32,476 and the toll would possibly rise to more than 50,000 as many, still buried in rubble, are feared dead. A further 220,000 were injured. During the days of mourning, the torch relay for the Beijing Olympic Games will be suspended to mourn the quake victims.
In Sichuan, the death toll in Deyang and Mianyang cities of Sichuan province hit 10,341 and 11,874 respectively. A further 4,156 in Chengdu, 2,586 in Guangyuan, 2,871 in Aba and 23 in Ya'an died. Outside Sichuan, the death toll was 364 in Gansu Province, 113 in Shaanxi Province, 16 in Chongqing Municipality, two in Henan Province, one in Yunnan Province, one in Hubei Province, and one in Hunan Province.
So far, 10.8 billion yuan (US$1.5 billion) has been received from donors at home and abroad for those affected by the earthquake. These include 8.9 billion yuan in cash and 1.9 billion yuan worth of relief materials.
In Nanning city, where I live, thousands of people gathered on Monday evening to light candles in Minzu (Nationality) Square. People also waved flags, sang the national anthem and chanted, “Go China Go!” and “Rebuild Sichuan!” as an encouragement to those affected by the earthquake.
The Polar Ship Fram
The Fram was the first ship specially built in Norway for polar research. She was used on three important expeditions: with Fridtjof Nansen on a drift over the Arctic Ocean 1893-96, with Otto Sverdrup to the arctic archipelago west of Greenland – now the Nunavut region of Canada – 1898-1902, and with Roald Amundsen to Antarctica for his South Pole expedition 1910-12. The Fram is now housed and exhibited in the Fram Museum at Bygdøynes, Oslo. (www.frammuseum.no)

Sun 08.05.12 - The last time I shot a roll of film in the ADOX Golf, I by accident messed up all the settings on the lens mechanism. This roll was me resetting and trying to figure out the best shutter timing to f-stop to distance ratios. I am happy with the light in each of these photos, but the focus is off.
I don't have the rangefinder for this vintage camera, so all my focusing is guess work to the meter marks on the lens.

Porto (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈpoɾtu]) (occasionally also known as Oporto in English[4]) is the second-largest city in Portugal, after Lisbon, and one of the major urban areas in Southern Europe and the capital of the second major great urban area in Portugal. The urban area of Porto, which extends beyond the administrative limits of the city, has a population of 1.3 million (2011)[5] in an area of 389 km2 (150 sq mi),[6] making it the second-largest urban area in Portugal. The Porto Metropolitan Area includes an estimated 2 million people.[7][8][9] It is recognized as a Gamma- level global city by the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) Study Group,[10] being one of five cities on the Iberian Peninsula with global city status, (the others being Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon and Valencia).
Located along the Douro river estuary in northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centres, and registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. Its settlement dates back many centuries, when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. Its Latin name, Portus Cale,[11] has been referred to as the origin for the name "Portugal", based on transliteration and oral evolution from Latin. In Portuguese the name of the city is spelled with a definite article as "o Porto" (English: the port). Consequently, its English name evolved from a misinterpretation of the oral pronunciation and referred to as "Oporto" in modern literature and by many speakers.
One of Portugal's internationally famous exports, port wine, is named for Porto, since the metropolitan area, and in particular the adegas of Vila Nova de Gaia, were responsible for the production and export of the fortified wine.[12] The Porto region is also a major producer of cork

Reverend Sir,
Having read an article from your pen giving a few glimpses of the early years of "George Eliot" - (Mary Ann Evans) - I thought perhaps a few facts might prove interesting to you.
My deceased Mother was Burn and lived (until her marriage in the year 1846) within walking distance of the house at "Griff" where Miss Evans spent the early years of girlhood.
My Mother accompanied the young girl in School both being pupils. I remember my mother speaking of Mary Ann Evans as a most retiring and sensitive girl. Both attended the Ladies School kept by Miss Lewis of Chilvers Coton. I believe that being the school for advanced educational requirements. Many friendships that are formed in schooldays end when the routine of their preliminary education ends. So it was in the case referred to although the schoolfellows were destined to reside at Coventry but their sphere in life separated them. My Mother married a Linen Draper in a rather large way of business at Coventry but previous to her marriage visited much with influential families residing in that city. Miss Evans at that time was finishing her education at a Boarding School kept by the Misses Franklin daughters of the Rev. Francis Franklin a Baptist Minister of Cow Lane Chapel Coventry.
Miss Evans attended the ministry at the Chapel named and might be always seen in one of the pews reserved for the pupils of the Misses Franklin. At that time there resided at Coventry an erudite scholar who was a journalist.
Miss Evans was then spoken of as a brilliant scholar - and though the religious views of Mr. Charles Bray were considered decidedly unorthodox by the Misses Franklin somehow or other Miss Evans soon became on terms of close intimacy with Mr. and Mrs. Bray hence her introduction to some of the foremost literary men of that period - it would seem that Miss Evans imbibed to some extent the religious views that were distinctly opposed to the puritanical notions of the Baptist persuasion and in riper years she probably seceded from the dissenters.
My Grandfather, Mr. Philip Teagle, was on visiting terms with the select Coterie who formed the social basis of rural life in and around Nuneaton any many of the characters depicted in George Eliot's novels were intimately associated with my Mothers family one well known friend being Lawyer Buchanan who is represented in one of the earliest productions of the gifted authoress.
Perhaps I ought to apologise to you Sir for what may be an infringement upon your time. My only apology rests in the circumstances that surround it.
With respectful compliments I am dear Sir Yours truly,
E.Butterworth

CATEDRAL DE GUADALAJARA
The downtown cathedral, dedicated to the Virgin of the Assumption when it was begun in 1561, was finished about 30 years later. A potpourri of styles—Moorish, Gothic, Renaissance, and Classic—make up its spires, arches, and facades. Although an earthquake demolished its steeples in 1818, they were rebuilt and resurfaced with cheery canary yellow tiles in 1854.
Inside, side altars and white facades climax at the principal altar, built over a tomb containing the remains of several former clergy, including the mummified heart of renowned Bishop Cabañas. One of the main attractions is the Virgin of Innocence, in the nave, left side, to the left of the entrance. The glass-enclosed figure contains the bones of a 12-year-old girl who was martyred in the third century and forgotten, then rediscovered in the Vatican catacombs in 1786 and shipped to Guadalajara in 1788. The legend claims she died protecting her virginity; it is equally likely that she was martyred for refusing to recant her Christian faith.
Somewhere in the nave (maybe near the main altar) you’ll find either a copy of or the authentic Virgen de Zapopan. Sometime between June and October 12, the tiny, adored figure will be the authentic “La Generala,” as she’s affectionately known; on October 12, a tumultuous crowd of worshippers escorts her back to the cathedral in Zapopan, where she remains until brought back to Guadalajara the next June.
Outside, broad plazas surround the cathedral: the Plaza Guadalajara (formerly Plaza Laureles), in front (west) of the cathedral, then, moving counterclockwise, the Plaza de Armas to the south, Plaza Liberación to the east (behind), and the Plaza de los Hombres Ilustres to the north of the cathedral.

Dover Castle
The Roman Lighthouse or Pharos
A ‘reasonably’ well-preserved Roman Lighthouse or Pharos, dating from around 46-50 AD (during the reign of the Emperor Claudius 41-54 AD) and, just after the invasion of Britain in 43 AD.
Two Lighthouses were built, this one on the Eastern Heights and a twin on the Western Heights. Nothing much remains of the Pharos on the Western Heights.
The two Pharos would have acted as obvious visual markers to shipping coming cross the Channel during daylight hours and at night Beacons would have been lit at to assist shipping.
It is thought that the Roman army probably came ashore either here or further along the Kent coast at Walmer.
The parish church of St Mary-in-Castro, a late Saxon foundation dating from 800 to 1000 AD, stands right beside the Pharos but is not attached.

Here's a tip for you, if you are going to Angkor Wat, and your going to see the sunrise (at around 6AM), then remember to stay there after the sun has risen, because many of the "tourists" go back for breakfast right after sunrise, and then you have the wat almost to yourself, for a few hours, the over crowded busses returns at round 8AM and then it's gonna be like walking around a music festival, you know like your standing in line everywhere.
unfortunately I was in Cambodia in the summertime, and there you don't get that many cool sunrises (or sets) the photo above was my second attempt to get one, it was better than the first one but far from overwhelming.
This photo is made on the "backside" of the wat or the opposite side of the main entrance if you like.

"Northwest of the village are rock reliefs representing rows of persons hewn in a primitive style. One of them represents a group of 13 people thought to represent Jesus and his disciples", this is part of that group. These are said to be old, but I have no clue how old or how long Qana (one of 4 candidates for the biblical Cana) has been a pilgrimage site. "The presence of [these reliefs] in a place so isolated cannot be explained without accepting that early Christians were in the area." (Lebanese archaeologist Youssef Hourani).
- "The exact location of Cana has been subject to debate. Modern scholars maintain that since the Gospel of John was addressed to Jewish Christians of the time, it isn’t likely that the evangelist would mention a place that didn't exist... According to the Catholic Encyclopedia of 1914, a tradition dating back to the 700s identifies Cana with the modern Arab town of Kafr Kanna, about 7 kms northeast of Nazareth. Recent scholars have suggested alternatives, including the ruined village of Kenet-el-Jalil (aka Khirbet Kana), @ 9 kms further north, and Ain Kana, closer to Nazareth and considered by some to be a better candidate on etymological grounds. While the village of Qana, in southern Lebanon, is considered an unlikely candidate for the location, many local Lebanese Christians believe the village to be the correct site [of course]." (Wikipedia).
- @ 1 km. outside the village there's a cave "where Jesus is supposed to have taken refuge several times with his disciples from the heat" and gave lessons.

I saw this in the Louvre in 2015 where it faces the Mona Lisa in the Salle des Etats. At 6 x almost 10 m.s it's the largest painting in the Louvre.

District celebrates future leaders
By Daniel J. Calderón
USACE Los Angeles District
LOS ANGELES – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District celebrated a successful completion to another year of Leadership Development Program classes during a ceremony held at the District headquarters Sept. 12.
The ceremony was the culmination of LDP Level I and LDP Level II, both of which are meant to develop future leaders for the District.
“I think this went extremely well,” said David M. Boals, a District management analyst and the District’s Leadership Development Program Coordinator. “I was very pleased with the entire process.”
During the graduation event, LDP participants gave presentations for Col. Mark Toy, Los Angeles District Commander, and other senior leaders. Presentations ranged from proposed sponsorship packages so new employees would feel more welcomed into the District to a totally new way of distributing employees across the District to maximize productivity and increase quality of life.
“This is the most important thing I have to do all day today,” Toy said as he welcomed the graduates and assembled senior leaders. “I’m glad to see so many branch chiefs and division chiefs here. I know they realize the importance of this program and of your accomplishments.”
Students worked for the past nine months to reach the graduation. Each level of LDP covered leadership principles. The goal of LDP is to develop leaders at all levels, across all functional areas and career programs. Students begin at Tier I and can progress through each of higher levels. The program is also designed to meet the needs of prospective and current leaders at various stages of development. Leaders within the District and from around the Corps of Engineers come in to speak with students about various topics. Students also have the opportunity to learn about their strengths and how to apply those strengths in their regular work environment.
The Leadership Development Program is open to employees across the District. In Tier I, the ideal number of students is 10-12 and in Tier II, eight is the magic number. Each level does require some travel and a commitment of time outside regular work hours to ensure assignments are met. Tier III involves students in Division-level leadership and requires more of a time commitment from students and from their leadership. Boals said his only concern about the program is continued funding from across work groups.
Boals said the program has been in the District for six years. He credits former District commander, Col. Thomas Magness with revitalizing it. Boals said there were trends senior leaders in the District could see that warranted a return of the program. Trends included an increase in retirements and a loss of “corporate knowledge” and pass down from one generation of workers to another. With six years invested in future leaders, Boals said the program is paying off.
“When I see the people come out of the program, I don’t worry about our future,” he said. “I can see how strong our leaders will be in the future when I see the graduates we have in this program.”
Allison Lind, an LDP Tier I graduate, said she enjoyed her time in the program. As a relatively new member of the District, with less than five years with the Corps of Engineers, Lind said the program will help her focus her efforts to become a future leader in the Corps.
“I felt I needed to find my stride in becoming a leader here,” she said. “I feel the program helped me become more self aware of my strengths and leadership potential. I’m also more aware of the management and work styles of people around me. In the long run, that’s going to help me and I’m going to be able to help the Corps.”
The future leaders already have their near futures planned for them. Toy said the graduates’ first assignment is to attend the upcoming Senior Leadership Conference in November. There, Toy said the LDP graduates will help shape the policy for the District and work on ways to ensure they match up with the overall USACE and South Pacific Division goals.
“This year will be a celebration of senior leadership” Toy said as he discussed the speakers lined up for the three-day event. “You’re not just going to be attendees. You will all be developing the future of the District. Based on what I’ve seen today, I’m really excited about what you will be showing us at the conference.”
District employees interested in the program can look up requirements on the District Intranet site.
This roll is Fujifilm Velvia Pro 120 film ISO100, processed at Fromex on 2nd St in Long Beach.

“Sports is human life in microcosm”
Kids making a living working with a troupe that arranges the 'Baraat' - an integral part of a North Indian Hindu wedding.
The groom's family and friends make up the Baraat convoy that travels on foot for around 1.5 - 2 km upto the venue of the wedding. The entire groom's family arrives in this grand fashion at the wedding venue where the bride's family awaits them. The groom rides a horse while his family and friends dance to the music played by the marching band through this journey.
The convoy halts every 50 metres and on every halt, friends and family of the groom celebrate by dancing fervidly to a couple of hindi songs, the most popular being Mithun da's - 'I am a disco dancer' !!
A lot of money is given out, actually thrown around as 'Inam' (prize). Members of the troupe sometimes tussle over the fallen money to claim it.
And amidst all the fervor were these kids... quietly going about their job carrying 'portable' lighting for the convoy...
Looking for a fun read? I have been enjoying this new book "Teaming with Microbes". They reeled me right in on page 12 (the preface) with this scanning tunnel electronic microscopic image of a root eating nematode being trapped by fungus before it could destroy a tomato plants roots.
