No longer updated here. My latest photography can be found at observer-f.com.

A rough day today. Had a spot of skin cancer removed on my lip and another spot biopsied in my forehead. This isn’t even what is worrying me. I am very worried about finances and raising rent prices. 91k in student debt I’ll never be able to pay off. I need that erased. It also makes me depressed that I have no one to really be emotional with when I have all these things weighing on my mind. Everything is so overwhelming, my eyes just feel like closing and my arms feel heavy and I can barely move.

This is my current obsession.

The sunset was burning up the maples in our front yard. Positioned about 9 inches away with the 28mm Vivitar.

Progetto 21 Il discorso di Bach

In years past, returning via the A1 from forays further north, my first glimpse of a red London bus was so often a Routemaster standing at Apex Corner, Hendon, ready for another run to the West End on the 113 route. This sight always lifted my spirits as I knew I was again back home in my adopted city. The 113 was also one my regular routes home from Central London, and I was able to record the gamut of vehicle changes over a 40-year period.

Standard LT Routemasters were still in charge of the 113, with RM2198 (CUV198C) seen in Finchley Road one Friday summer’s evening. From February 1976, 30-ft RMLs were drafted into Hendon Garage (AE) to provide extra capacity on the 13 and 113 workings. While the 13 enjoyed crew-operation until October 2005, the 113 was converted to one-person operation in 10/86, using Metrobuses. There was a brief interregnum between 1993 and 1997 when single-decker Dennis Lances (LN class) were deployed, a most unsatisfactory arrangement, but the Metrobuses duly returned before being replaced under Metroline auspices by VPL Volvo B7TL types. London Sovereign (Correction: Metroline) is the current 113 operator.

The mansion block in the background is Northeast Parade, part of Eton College’s large property portfolio in the Swiss Cottage area. The shops once included a place called TOYS TOYS TOYS, whose fascia can just be glimpsed.

We don’t see cigarette advertising today, but I was amused by this one of a Meter Maid about to issue a parking ticket to a camel.

What of RM2198? It survived withdrawal from LT service in 1987, subsequently enjoying spells in preservation and stints with Timeline of Watford and Carousel Coaches of High Wycombe. Ian’s Bus Stop records that it was retained by Carousel’s owners in 2012. Any news since then?
