Won First Place Ribbon - Large, Monochrome, Assigned Catagory: Emotions
This picture was actually taken about a year ago on my webcam, but in all honesty the expression on my face in this picture sums up ME.
My new found friend Flandymouse tagged me in a 10 Things About Me task, and well I could not NOT do it!!
1.) I dance, not sit and watch.
2.) I laugh most of the time and cry when needed.
3.) I am the hands-on type.
4.) I listen, not gossip.
5.) I am private, not provocative.
6.) I am unique, not ordinary.
7.) I love coffee and gym dates.
8.) I love comedy, not horror.
9.) I am art deco, not contemporary.
10.) I wish, dream and conquer.
Tomorrow is my birthday and I had some time on my hands today so I worked on a still life of my favorite things. Couldn't cram everything I like into one photo but I covered lots of it. Of course my family would be first on my list of fav's but they aren't around and when I get out my camera they run for cover.
I used one SB-600 camera right, set at 1/128 power, bouncing off the ceiling.

My daughter makes me happy. She was conceived in Montreal, the most romantic city in Canada without a doubt. It's been a supreme pleasure watching her grow up. Very soon she will be entering that odd twentieth century construct, "The Teenager". I still have a couple of years before the world changes irrevocably.
Brightly coloured flowers always make me happy - I especially love when they are stuck in a metal bucket.

#3. This week and next, I am enrolled at Seaschool in Panama City to get my OUPV (6-pack) captain's license. This is something that I have been wanting to do for a very long time.
Last night, we charted fixed positions and dead reckonings using triangulation, created lines of position along a course and baring, and practiced giving MAYDAY distress calls.
Unfortunately, they don't hand out the eye patches and caps until after you pass the exam.
You've probably seen the "10 things that require zero talent" memes on the internet. Do those "10 things" really require "zero talent?" I stand with Tom Gimbel. His 2017 article in Time, "'10 Things That Require Zero Talent' Is a Total Myth" argues that all of those "things" require talent. No matter, your perspective on what it takes to do the "10 things," I appreciate these "things" in others and strive to live up to them in my day-to-day life. This sketch is one of a series of sketches based on the "10 things" meme.

9. winter without snow is a waste of a cold weather, in my opinion. and not just a light dusting...a good hefty snow (sorry mid-atlantic states). if it's not going to snow, then let's get back to the 65+ degree weather, ok?
10. sometimes the book really isn't better than the movie. yeah, i said it.

My new Laughing Buddha
My Mom gave me this laughing Buddha as a gift when she visited me recently. I have been wanting a laughing Buddha for a long time to put in my garden...He is so neat, though, I don't know if I have the heart to put him outside.....he may have to stay inside......rub his belly for luck!!!
These are the spring days I look forward to the most.
Standing there under the cherry trees in the warm sun as the cherry blossom petals flutter down on top of me like snow, carried by the gentle, cool breeze.

a lovely gift from eshu for her paper crane project.

#6: The kindness of my flickr friends (especially eshu for this beauty!). They pick me up when I am down, make sweet comments on my mediocre photos, and are a great group of friends I have never met. I hope to rectify that someday!

#10 my sun necklace carved from cocunut I got in Ecuador
I bought this necklace over Christmas break this past year (2006) on my trip to South America to see the Galapagos Islands. The necklace is made of coconut shell with a sun carved out of the middle of the circle. We were able to go to a very interesting outdoor market in Quito, Ecuador before our flight back home and do some great shopping. This was one of my purchases... and one of my favorites of the trip.

10 Reasons To Dance
1. See title ^^ :)
2. It's good for your soul.
3. You can express the way you feel without words, and no one needs to know exactly what you're feeling to understand.
4. Everyone can dance - no matter how old or young, fit or disabled. Everyone can dance in their own way.
5. If people didn't dance, society would not be the same!
6. Ever heard of dancing out your anger? Try it - it works :)
7. When you listen to a piece of music, you are merely enjoying it. When you dance it, you experience it.
8. There is a bit of insanity in dancing that does everybody a great deal of good. ~ Edwin Denby
9. There are short-cuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them. ~ Vicki Baum
10. Give me one good reason why we shouldn't! :)

#10Things 2. Who gets to see it? The western U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, and British Columbia. Australia and the Pacific Ocean are also well placed to see a major portion of the eclipse, if not all of it.
Who put those lights away last year? OK, I did but I thought I balled them up neatly...
I used an SB-600, camera left - TTL with a -3.0 exp set to just skim his face. No reflector
This is Chuck ice skating on our driveway. Yes, we've had some ice-y weather...
I'm panning the camera and I do think you get a feeling of the action.
