TEAC E-1 Head Demagnetizer
To maintain optimum recording characteristics of tape recorder, residual magnetism of recording heads must be removed from time to time. Residual head magnetism destroys valuable recordings by adding noise and distortion.
The E - 1 head demagnetizer is designed to provide complete elimination of head magnetism. A unique built-in alarm buzzer informs the user that the unit is operating.
FEATURES
1. Powerful Demagnetization
Only four to five strokes along the front of the head surface for complete erasure.
2. Operational alarm device
A buzzer sounds during operation (Utility Model)
3. Low temperature rise
The E-1 can be operated continuously while application is made to several tape recorders.
4. Pole tips
A pair of pole tips covering the elements provides better demagnetizing efficiency. Protection of head and ease of handling.

OPERATION
1. Turn off the tape recorder power switch.
2. Insert the power cord plug to a power receptacle and depress the push-button switch of the demagnetizer. This initiates demagnetizing operation and the alarm sounds.
3. Slowly move the magnetic arms toward the core of the head. Pass the arms over the head gap four or five times gradually move the arms away from the head.
- Repeat the same operation for all magnetic heads on the equipment.
- Note that demagnetizing arms should not be suddenly moved away from the head, or AC power should not be shut-off during demagnetizing.
- Pole tips prevent head damage.
4. This demagnetizer can be used not only for magnetic heads but for other magnetized-objects (such as capstan and tape guide). As a safety precaution, screwdrivers, scissors, and other tools that may come into contact with the recording tape or head should also be demagnetized.

This is the basic gear I took to my first roller derby bout at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium since 2019 (since COVID) It’s also my first chance to shoot center track at the Civic, and the first time to not have a Leica M with me for derby (since 2008).
The cameras are a Leica Q2 (leaf shutter with highest flash synchronization speed of 1/500th) and a Leica SL. The two M-mount lenses for the SL are the Leica 90mm F2 APO Summicron and the Konica 60mm F1.2 Hexanon. The SL is on a shoulder strap at my right hip, and I used the Oberwerth George bag (left hip) to hold the M lens not on the SL and the Q2.
Up to four external flashes (of various Metz and Leica flavors) are radio triggered by Phottix Strato II Multi triggers (4 receivers and 2 transmitters in the photos). The flashes are mounted on three Manfrotto light stands with one light stand holding a super-clamp and umbrella stand to hold a second flash. The flash discharges are powered by Godox Propac PB 960 Li-Ion batteries. I have taped “push the button” on them to remind me to turn them on AND to make sure the cables are seated properly so the flash uses these beefy batteries instead of quickly draining the double A batteries in the flash units themselves. I also brought my little Nissin i400 flash for on-camera fill, but I didn’t actually use it that much.
I’ve included a map of the Civic to illustrate the lighting set up (civic_lighting). The jammers start each jam behind the jammer line and the rest of the skaters start between the pivot and jammer line. They skate counter clockwise through turn 1, turn 2, turn 3, and turn 4. My light stands are placed behind the highest seats above turn 1, turn 2 and turn3 (L-A, L-B, L-C/D). The numbers with circles around them are my preferred shooting positions.
As you may be know the MM-1 was built by Turner for The Collins Radio Company and this is the same microphone but has the turner decal on it.

P&W NH-1 turned its whole train of hoppers on the Old Saybrook wye, while Valley 3025 waited its turn.
The kit and its assembly:
Originally I wanted to build a USN aircraft in the Atlantic paint scheme for some time, after having seen a whiffed Curtiss SB2C Helldiver in this neat livery. You rarely see aircraft in this grey/white scheme, and originally I planned to build an early F4U-1 as a respective whif. But: why not take it a step further and create a whole new aircraft for the Northern Atlantic theatre?
The potential specification list was built around the small escort carriers, and it became a true challenge to create something that would be plausible. When I came across Smèr’s 1:72 kit of the Curtiss SC-1 Seahawk seaplane I knew I had found my basis, though, and in the end the Mako is more or less a SC-1 turned into a carrier-borne fighter aircraft with a retractable landing gear!
The kit was mostly taken OOB, the central float just left away. The wings were mounted with a slight anhedral, resulting in a gull wing, much like the F6F. In order to make the aircraft look a bit more agile the wing tips were clipped by about 1cm on each side.
For the scratched landing gear (wild parts mix, from a Fw 190 and a Spitfire, among others), wells were cut out of the wing undersurfaces – overall benchmark was the F6F.
I also changed the engine from the SC-1’s original 9 cylinder radial engine into a 14 cylinder, two-row radial, which received a longer, more pointed cowling – taken from an SB2C and reduced in height by taking about 3mm out of every side. Reminds a bit of a Mitsubishi A6M Zero now? The propeller was carried over from the SC-1, but fitted with a metal axis so that it could spin freely in the new engine block.

What: This is sphere of light. It is an example of light painting.
When: The picture was taken on September 19, 2010.
Why: This was taken because i was inspired by this picture. The onion in the inspirational picture is perfect whereas mine is a bit crooked. I am practicing to get better results.
Where: This picture was taken inside my home in the drawing room which is usually the darkest place in my house at night.
How: This is how i did it:
1. Turned off the lights of the room.
2. There was a door behind me so i blocked all light coming from underneath it.
3. I set my camera mode to "Manual".
4. Set the shutter speed to 30 sec and aperture to F8.0.
5. Positioned my camera on a table.
6. Turned on the 10 sec auto timer, hit the shutter button, ran to take my position in front of the camera, and as soon as the camera clicked started making circles in the air.
PS: I enjoyed this a lot. :-)

I'm surprised to see that aircraft on the photo(C-1) turned so aggressively. C-1 is mid-sized transport aircraft, not a fighter aircraft.

I hate it when people don’t use turn signals. I’m sorry, it just drives me nuts. Now if you’re in the middle of nowhere at a stop sign and don’t use your turn signal, who are you really going to influence or annoy? A cow? A Crow? Who cares? But in the city it’s a different story.
For me, turn signals are a courtesy to tell people around you “here’s what I’m doing so you can do what you need to do…” And when people can’t take that .5 seconds to hit the signal it just comes off as rude. It’s almost as if you’re saying “I’m too busy to do this… even though it’d really help you out.”
It’s hard coming up behind people who are about to pull out onto a really busy road. If they’re turning left and crossing four lanes of traffic, versus turning right and only having to enter one lane, odds are they’re going to be sitting there a long time. People who are turning right could go to another exit point- but we’re all left guessing because the person turning can’t seem to use their signal. Nice, buddy.
This is one where I wouldn’t just say it’s about turn signals- but bad drivers in general… and there are plenty of them here in San Antonio, and plenty of busy roads.

The last of the 2000 New Flyer D40LF's is seen on a Route 1 today. Mid-turn at the light at 3rd and B Streets, this bus will head into the Santa Rosa Transit Mall and wait around for 10 minutes. Then it will head back to Mendocino Ave., and wind up at Coddingtown Mall before turning around to come back again.

Making an igloo, a timelapsed project . . . lessons learned(building/recording)
1-turn off auto everything, esp auto focus
2-stretch first!
3-drink lots of water
4-set the base about an hour before construction begins
5-don't drop the clock as it may jar the hands loose and become somewhat useless
6-dress in layers
7-have multiple pairs of gloves to swap out as they become wet/icy
8-bring a good sense of humor
9-have some snacks at the handy
10-get some friends to help out, not the cats, they just want the snacks : ]
