On the "Golden State Route", 274 miles west of Kansas City, Kansas, Rock Island's westbound freight #1 arrives at 1806 behind SP SD45, SP U33c, U33c, two more units (SP8832-SP8748-191- ? - ? - 257.) The train has stopped here to change crews, as a crew would take this train from Herington (where the Texas Gulf route splits off to go south) to Pratt, and another would take it from here to Liberal. The route was single track - from Herington, where double track from the east ended - and governed by timetable and train order while Automatic Block Signals provided protection. Timetable speed was 60mph, and trains did move along with it. During the TRAINS Magazine speed surveys of the '60s, Rock Island consistently racked up some of the highest speeds in the survey while out in this country, and I've no doubt that 60mph was considered to be "just a suggestion." Sadly, by this time the track was becoming more and more affected by the Rock's financial condition and the deterioration had set in…but I think that many crews were still trying to live the Glory Days, just as I saw on the Texas Gulf main. With Espee supplying power like this, who could blame them?

FAB 1 is a pink, six-wheeled Rolls Royce car seen in the 1960s British science-fiction television series Thunderbirds, and feature films.

There have been various versions - models and road vehicles. This car (apparently not a Rolls) was used in the 2004 live-action film, "Thunderbirds" and is now on display at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire (formerly known as the Heritage Motor Centre).

Chapter 1 - Episode 5

Location: Urban Sector - Forgotten Alleyway, World of Ruin

Xerith was far from the jungles and swamps of her homeland, sent on a scouting mission, a fool’s errand in her mind, into the heart of the Urban Sector. This was the first time she had walked these crumbling streets, old and ravaged by time. Xerith was conditioned from a young age to never venture beyond the city limits. She grew up on stories that told of brave wanderers who entered the forgotten city, and never returned. This only served to peak her curiosity. She would sit alone in the treetops, dreaming of the day she could see it, walk among its people, and plunder its secrets. One day, her wish came true. Her clan was desperate for supplies and alternative sources of power, a rare commodity in the Cursed Marches, at the end of the world. Xerith was well trained, for a thief. Her cloaking technology allowed her to remain unseen as she traversed the broken landscapes of the Urban Sector, twin pistols at her side. When she finally arrived, Xerith couldn’t help but think; this was not the city she had imagined in her youth. It was much worse.

Settlements were sparse, and didn’t take kindly to her presence. Life was harsh for these Wanderers, every day a struggle for survival. She found no allies here and quite frankly, there was nothing to steal, nothing to plunder. It didn’t take long for Xerith to discover that it was safer to travel under the cover of darkness, as brutish creatures with green skin scavenged the remains during the daylight hours. She had never seen the likes of these creatures before. What were they? Where did they come from? Their armor was strong, and they had an equally strong distaste for Wanderers, like her. Still, she could cover a lot of ground, moving silently among the toppling buildings and decaying roadways.

She was alone. Until one day, a chance meeting, she came across another lone Wanderer, much like herself. For reasons she can’t explain, something drew Xerith to him. He carried with him a single long rifle, and seemed well versed in surviving here. Had he always lived in the Urban Sector? She was intrigued, but feared revealing her intentions to him. Instead, she decided it was best to tail him; perhaps this lone Wanderer could lead her to fulfilling her mission. She stayed close to him, remaining cloaked at all times. He always wandered alone, and stayed away from large settlements. She quickly developed a feeling of safety, knowing she wasn’t alone anymore. On several occasions, Xerith would awaken to the sounds of him stirring in his sleep. It was almost as if, he was talking to someone, in his dreams. Whatever the case, this Wanderer was highly skilled with his weapon and knew how to evade the green-skinned ones. She witnessed it firsthand not long ago. Xerith was unsure if this Wanderer knew where he was going, or if he simply walked along, hoping to find something, or someone. But this day, this day felt different.

The lone Wanderer walked down a faintly lit alleyway. She uncloaked and peered around the corner, a broken structure obscured her from view. The Wanderer took cover; a fully armored green-skin was repairing some kind of old world motor bike. At last. Xerith saw an opportunity, a wealth of supplies just waiting to be plundered. The green-skin would make this task quite difficult, however. She noticed the Wanderer cocking his long rifle, and positioning himself to take the shot. How, she thought to herself. She thought him foolish, the green-skin was armored to the teeth; she failed to see how he was going to.... CRACK! The sound of a bullet whipping through the air forced her to the ground. She looked up in time to see the green-skin’s head nearly disintegrate before her eyes. The bullet met its target, who fell to ground, dead. She had never seen a shot so skilled. A great feeling of respect came over her, who was this Wanderer?

Xerith watched in utter disbelief as the Wanderer claimed his prize, so easily. He must have wanted the motor bike badly enough to risk open conflict with a green-skinned one. She watched as the Wanderer replaced some parts on the motor bike, and then retired inside one of the crumbling stalls, lit by a single burning torch. She waiting for him to fall asleep, and then began scavenging the alleyway. She was interrupted only once, in the middle of the night, by the sounds of his voice. He stirred, dreaming, she couldn’t help but notice that there was something familiar about this. Was he having the same dream, over and over again?

To be continued....

I read many articles that mention the golden ratio and the golden section but they all normally refer to the PHI rectangle. There is so much more to learn about the golden section than just PHI. I thought I'd share one of the grids I use for my art. This is a 1.5 golden section rectangle (a square and a half) which contains two overlapping root four rectangles which are themselves double squares. The red lines indicate what is known as the rubated square or "St. Andrews Cross" I love the geometry of this rectangle.

I managed to nab an AE-1 Program & 50mm from craigslist yesterday for $10. I thought, even if I don't like it I can just take purty pictures of it and sell it on ebay for a profit. The guy I bought it from was like "you can still get film for that?"

But this is Josh's AE-1 from that day we adventured Dinkytown.

Because when you're 15 and somebody tells you they love you, you're gonna believe them and when you're 15 you're feeling like there's nothing to figure out. Well, count to ten, take it in, this is life before you know who you're gonna be...at 15.

This wasn't my original plan for this picture, but today was my first day of high school, and I thought it would mean more if I took the picture on my first day, even though I'm not 15 yet. :D I also decided today that I'm going to start a 365 day project. I thought this was a really cool day to start it because I can capture my whole year from freshmen to sophmore. It will be really cool to see where I'm at next year on the first day of school, and I kind of already upload a picture almost every day, so...yeah. Bear with me, I'm going to try- this is my first year of high school, so I may miss a few days, and some of the pictures might be really crappy, but I'm going to do my best. I really want to do this. I think it will be a great way to improve my photography and to capture a very important year of my life. So, here we go. #1 of 365 days. Yay!

This is my first and late photo taken for Let's Get Creative 2014 project (www.flickr.com/groups/2506080@N22/). The theme for week 1 was "Camera", but, seeing as I only have one camera, I couldn't take a picture of it. That's why I decided to use clip art again - hope it counts!
