Flicker Fighters
The villain on the glider was known as Hollyween. She was an assassin ‘in training’ who was hired by some guy to kill both Ben and his Mum. However, after crashing through a window she was quick to cough up her employers location. Before Ben payed them a visit he decided it was time for a quick costume change. He didn’t really like the flight suit, probably because he didn’t know how to fly in it.
As he made his way to ‘Imagine’ he decided to follow the lead without telling his Mum, she’d only worry. Besides, she’d hear he was okay on the news after he took off to fight Hollyween. He wanted to find the one responsible for threatening his Mum and her company. After an uncomfortable suit change he was back in the suit he’d appropriately nicknamed, Knockout. He never thought he’d be back in this armour ever since he used it to defeat Connie’s killer. However, here he was on yet another mission. Ben made his way to the location Hollyween had given him. He got a lot of suspicious looks and even was greeted by citizens on the street who recognised him. After a fifteen minute walk and getting lost a couple times, he found himself in an alley.
Ben: “I’m pretty sure this is where Bruce Wayne’s parents got shot.”
Ben didn’t know what it was but he felt as if he was being watched. The further ahead he walked the more prominent the feeling became. It could’ve been the armour but Ben felt unstoppable and capable of taking on anyone in this suit. So he wasn’t worried about the possibility of getting jumped. His confidence was soaring after he wiped the floor with Wylde; a super strong Metahuman. This suit gave him super strength and also enhanced his movements so he could swing his fist fluidly as if he didn’t have armour on.
Ben continues to walk through the alley until something slams against his shoulders and a squeal of metal screeches in his ears. He grunts and trips forward as something sharp nips the side of his neck. As he is about to turn to face the culprit he is rammed into a pile of trash cans. The deafening clanging of his armour against the metal bins gives him a sore head. He slowly pushes himself to his feet and awkwardly presses an armoured finger against his neck. He draws it away and notices a small amount of blood smeared on the metal fingertip. Ben turns his head and notices two knives are sticking out from his armour. They aren’t lodged in deep, only a few centimetres. Whoever did this probably didn’t expect the armour to withstand the attack. After a quick search Ben doesn’t see the attacker.
Ben: “Yeah, douchebag you better run!”
Ben didn’t know what that was all about but it doesn’t take him long until he realises Hollyween must’ve set him up. A backup assassin in case she failed, perhaps? Talk about being a cynic. Ben scratches the knives out from his armour and they fall to the ground. He continues walking ahead but stops.
Ben: “Should probably put those in a safe place so some kid doesn’t hurt themselves. Kids are stupid.”
It’s then Ben sees the knives are gone. He runs over with his fists raised and swings blindly in the open air for an invisible attacker. Just as he suspected he hits nothing but the open air. Ben quickly raises a fist near his face as a precaution, just as a knife suddenly gets lodged between his fingers.
Ben: “Whoa! Hey, not cool!”
Ben thrusts his other fist with a quick jab and strikes the invisible foe. He hears them grunt in pain and notices a cloud of dust billow out from against the wall in front of him. He must’ve smacked the attacker against it.
Ben: “Hah! Got ya, bish!”
Ben sprints over and pounds his fist against the spot on the wall but doesn’t hit nothing. Luckily for them he misses and his fist breaks through the wall. He pulls out quickly and spins on his heel in a 360° motion with his arms extended. He doesn’t hit anything. Crap, he’s lost them. Ben begins to feel claustrophobic in the alley way and jogs out onto the street, blending into the crowd. As someone who seems to be cloaked they must find it difficult to navigate crowds that can’t see them. Ben looks around in a panic, guarding his face with his gauntlets raised. People look at him confused as they walk around him. After a minute or so Ben makes his way hrough the crowd and stops before the road, trying to lure out his attacker. Cars pass and Ben is about to give it up until he hears a pained cry and a heavy thud.
Ben: “No freakin’ way.”
Ben looks across the road and watches as a car comes to a halt. A confused driver gets out, looking around. He notices his wing mirror dangling off the side of his car and curses. Ben jogs over, careful to avoid the overtaking cars. His foot catches an invisible force and he trips falling beside the confused driver. Ben awkwardly gets to his feet and looks down, noticing a dropped knife. He crouches down patting his armoured gauntlet along the ground until he hits something. A male voice exclaims in pain and Ben laughs in disbelief.
Ben: “Alright, show yourself.”
Ambush: “Arghh! No.”
Ben: “I’ll call you an ambulance if you show yourself. Wait, you’re not naked are you?”
The driver of the car stares in shock as he and Ben see a costumed man suddenly appear. Ben quickly withdraws his gauntlet as he realises it’s touching the attackers thigh. The attacker is cradling his side and is rocking in pain on the road. He must’ve went on the road to avoid the crowds on the street and unfortunately got hit by one of the speeding cars. Sucks to be invisible at times. Ben was beginning to think he was extremely lucky when it came to fighting villains. The first one didn’t even get a chance to fight back, the second flew threw a window, and now this guy gets hit by a car.
Ben: “Alright, now tell me who hired you. Then, I’ll call you an ambulance.”
Ambush: “Fine! Sheila Barron. She hired me, she’s the CEO of Power-Up Pharmacy, look her up. I swear! Just call me an ambulance.”
La Mère Noël est de retour cette année... Et elle a croisé le Père Fouettard sur le chemin.
Faites attention... :)
The alert came in at around 0800; a break-in at some old Nova Corps outpost. Now usually I don’t like dealing with this type of alarm, but maybe I could pawn off some useful tech while I was there. I docked the Jett in the outpost’s bay about an hour later and made my way in. Most of this looks like it hasn’t been used in a while. Walls are rusting, lights barely turn on. I’m shocked this place even has any power left. Suddenly, I hear a creak to my left. I flip around; nothing.
“Come on, Quill. It’s probably nothing. Ship’s older than dirt. It probably blitzed out and sent that-”
Another creak. Two...three. I get my blaster ready and sneak down the hallway. Swear to God, if this is a Brood.
”Hey!”
A light shines in my eye and I raise my blaster, letting off a shot. It streaks into the wall, and the light flashes off.
”The Hell is wrong with you? I can’t believe you - well, no shit. Petey?”
Wait. I recognize that voice. I rub my eyes and look up to see a very familiar face.
“You gotta be kidding me. Mikel?”
We walk towards each other, arms outstretched, and give each other a firm hug. Mikel was one of my mentors back when I was with the Ravagers. He left when I was 19, though. Haven’t seen him since.
“How’ve you been, man? This is unreal. You know I was this close to taking your head off?”
”With that peashooter of yours? Hahaha, naw. You couldn’t shoot the ears off a Skrull with that thing. And I’ve been swell. Picking up scavenger jobs every now and then. Why I’m here now, actually. How’d you get here?”
“I picked up the alarm you tripped, dumbass. Figured if anyone was here, it’d be someone I could catch a bounty for. Last person I expected was you.”
”Forgot you’d taken up the bounty hunter gig. What’d the ads call you again? ‘Star-Man’?”
I sigh and press a fist against my temple, “...Star-Lord. And anyways, yeah. It’s a lot better pay than Ravager duty and I don’t have to deal with Yondu threatening to cook me into a stew anymore.”
Mikel chuckles and signals me to walk with him. We make our way back to the bay, and he presses a button on his wrist. A small ship fizzles into view; I don’t know why I didn’t think a ship could be hidden in here.
”Look, all jokin’ aside, I’m proud of ya. You got away from Yondu and his goons, you’re making a name for yourself. That’s good. Oh, and I think I got something you’ll be interested in.”
He pulls up a datafile and hands it to me. I activate it and see a picture of a Zen-Whoberi woman. There’s more, some of her with weaponry, a mugshot. Hey, I know her.
“Is this..?”
”Yep. Gamora. Daughter of Thanos. Nova Corps put out a 500,000 credit bounty on her head after she helped take out a Shi’ar colony. Doubt anyone worth their balls would wanna risk their life trying to nab her. But, I know someone who might be.”
I groan as he looks at me with a wink. This chick is known as the most dangerous woman in the galaxy. Everything I’ve heard about her has been her helping her dad commit mass murder. Is she worth it?
“...500,000 credits is a lot. I’ll think about it.”
Mikel nods, and we make our final goodbyes. He takes off and I get back in the Jett. I sit there for a while, thinking. This...could work. With a plan forming in my mind, I set a course for Knowhere and take off. Only someone dumb and greedy enough would help me hunt down a deadly assassin. Luckily, I know just the pair of greedy idiots.

This is an experiment in building a 1:15 figure.
I built this for a friend (you know who you are!) who might use this principle in one of his future builds.
Based a man of 6ft/180cms. Normally I would superhero-ify my builds by increasing the size of their chest, reduce their waist and lengthen their legs but this is guy has been left 'normal'.
I have purposely left him unfinished so details and gadgets can be added to him later. By changing the colours of the tiles you can easily create clothing.
It was challenging to produce a figure that can do all the poses required (see next photo). If required you can change the elbows to clip hinges (as opposed to plate hinges as shown here).
I hope you like him, at the very least I hope he has given you some ideas.

This chibi Thunderbird 1 was build for the Chibi Micro Contest organized by The Brothers Brick.
The task was to build a 'Star Wars microfighter' style version of my favorite movie, TV or LEGO theme vehicle. Thunderbirds is a childhood memory of mine: I used to watch it when I came out of school.
MOCs: Sauber C33 & Williams FW36, modern interpretations of the LEGO sets Dragster from 1986 and Octan F1 Race Car.
Part of my "Updated Classics" series - an ever-growing number of sets I've re-interpreted in order to make them fit better with modern LEGO City vehicles and buildings...
...although I do have to admit that the story with these two was a bit different from how it's normally been with these updates. I normally take an old set and translate it into a newer shape - but after having built my F1 Transporter and Ferrari F14 T to go with it, I thought it could use a couple more F1 cars for company.
LEGO has produced a lot of small F1-style cars over the years, so I went through the whole lot to see if I could find one or two with colour schemes that vaguely reminded me of actual 2014 livery. I ended up with the oddly named Dragster, in black, and the Octan F1 Race Car, in white, which I felt could be translated into a believable Sauber & Williams duo.
And yes, the drivers' positions aren't perfect. The cockpits are the biggest design flaws - they're too open, and the drivers sit too high. But this is, I believe, the best compromise - any solution to make it look better would result in either mutilating the minifig or raising the cockpit profile, which ruins the sleek shape.
All stickers are official LEGO stickers (which explains the lack of proper Sauber/Williams logos on the cars).
I think 1 of the Perseid meteors made it through our atmosphere... this looks too alien to be from here :P
Male Spiny Leaf Insect (Extatosoma tiaratum)
It's actually a species of stick insect, not a true leaf insect.
A bit strange that it was here where I live because they are a sub-tropical to tropical insect usually, which is why I was so surprised to see it.
If viewed at the wrong angle, the pointy end of its head looks like the front or mouth end... tilt your head to the left or right and you should see what I mean :)

Body weight = 827g (with finder)
Taken with a Canon T2i/550D and Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens at f/5.6. 63 1/30-second exposures at ISO100 in a focus stack (DoF stack) were combined with Zerene Stacker using DMap mode. Shooting was done tethered to a PC using the Canon EOS utility. Focus stepping was done by pressing the live view ">" focus button once between each exposure in the stack.
Switched out the 24-70 2.8 today to try out my 50 1.4G on the D700. It did not disappoint!
Jason you were right :)
A new year, a new daily self-portrait project.
I struggled coming up with an idea/plan. I needed to be reasonable in finding something I can actually do every single day consistently. I had a few ideas centering around the word "raw." A "this is middle age" sort of chronicle with documentary-style photos and a combination of self-portraits overlaid with garbage from the day were two concepts I pondered. I like overlaying a second image as I did this past year. I loved the ones where I used writing.
Which brought me to this:
A daily self-portrait, any or all of me in it but all probably pretty raw/bare images, with an overlay of a short journal-style entry I write the same day about any thought(s) roaming my brain.
I'm going to try hard to write uncensored and be brave about what I post. This will be by its nature personal and intimate, and probably pretty weird at times too. :)
The Tiger 1 was a famed (and feared) German tank of WW2.
It was my first WW2 AFV and has been overhauled two times. Finally, I'm totally happy with it.
The changes since the original are:
-Strengthened chassis.
-Completely new turret with better shaping and larger cupola.
-Lengthened chassis for an extra wheel and more detail.
-More detail with on the back of the tank.
-Removable part on the back of the turret to convert the Tiger from an early production model to a later model (If anyone could tell me what it's called it would be great).
