Werra 1 50/2.8 + Fuji Eterna Vivid 250D

Back after a break from flickr, I'm doing another 100 x series this year, and my new theme is 'black and white'.

Here's the first in my series: a wintry shot from early January.

“A small blue bug shaped unidentified flying object has been flying through the U.S, soaring so fast it creates sonic booms throughout cities, leaving massive damage in it's wake. It was first seen in Hub city, and is traveling south towards Texas. And Now, sports.”

Jaime Reyes picks up the remote, and quickly switches the television off. He then stands up from his couch, and walks over to his kitchen. He opens his pantry only to find granola bars and ramen noodles. He takes a pack of noodles, flipping the orange bag to inspect the cooking directions.

J: “Alright, two cups of water-”

Jaime hears huge “crash” and runs as fast as he can to the door, to find a gaping hole and a blue object on the floor. It quickly extends six “legs” and starts to crawl all over his living room. Jaime runs out the door scared for his life. He sprints across the road, and into an alley. The object makes it's way to where Jaime is, and latches itself onto his back, plunging it's sharp legs into his skin, and tearing his shirt. Two men looking for the object run into the alley, and point their weapons at Jaime.

Man: “Lower your guns, Boys.”

A man wearing purple and black armor steps out of the darkness, and in front of the two men.

Man: “Listen kid, we've been following that thing for a long time. My boss has found that it went missing from where he was keeping it. So please get it off of you, and we won't Kill you.”

But Jaime can't speak. He's in shock. The scarab is extending almost organic metal across Jaime's body. After forming on his body and hardening, wings sprout from the scarab, as well as a helmet, covering Jaime's face. The only way he can see are two transparent yellow eyes, until an HUD appears inside of his mask. One problem however, he can't control his body. The suit flies at the first thug, grabs his shoulders, and thrusts him through a nearby wall. He then punches the second one in the gut, sending him flying through the air, and into a metal fence. The leader begins to fly in the air, and precedes to pull the fence out of the ground using his magnetic abilities. He then warps the fence and wraps it around Jaime.

Suit: “The reach will conquer!”

Jaime: “What?”

Suit: ‘You are a host, doomed to be the instrument of your world's dea-”

The man slams Jaime into the ground with a light post.

Jaime: “That seemed to have shut it up.”

Realizing the suit has no control over him, Jaime regains control of his body. He flies up to the man, grabs his leg, spins around multiple times, and throws him as hard as he can into the sky, and watches the man disappear. He then feels a sudden impulse to travel to Hub City, and begins his journey.

Here's my second outing with my Firecrest 16 Stop and wow it really does do an amazing job with colour long exposures. Editing was minimal with really only a few adjustments from the basic panel in LR5 plus the use of a ND grad 1 stop for the water toward the middle of the bottom half. For this one I did a 4 minutes 22 second exposure, hence the title, well that and I really couldn't come up with anything better but in 16 stop terms 1/250 of a second is 4 minutes 22 seconds, maybe I'll change it later ;)

I just wanted to thank everyone that took the time to comment on my last upload, I really do appreciate them even if I don't respond straight away I will soon.

50mm f/1.4 wide open with extension tube. These were taken hand held at dusk. The sun had gone down below the horizon. It shows what a light bucket the f/1/4 is. 1/200/sec on most of them I think.

The one is a heron. Not certain what the other five are.

Enjoyed by two railfans in the first coach, Class 'V200.1' 221 138-1 heads away from Salzbergen on a misty 20th August 1977 with a service for Rheine, the two 1,350hp engines of this 1960s-built diesel-hydraulic making easy work of this light trailing load. 221 138 was one of twenty locos of this class sold by DB to the Greek Railways (OSE) in 1988. After being taken out of service at the end of the 1990s, they were repatriated to Germany by the Prignitzer Eisenbahn GmbH for use by private rail freight companies, but 221 138 was not one that survived to see further use.

And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

So, with another Open House London finished, now comes the enjoyment of seeing how my photos came out and then sharing the better ones with you guys. I have to say Open House this year was the most enjoyable to date and I was lucky to share the experience with Flickr buddies The Green Album, Paul Stokes, Ed Bentley, lilypops1 and Dan Borg.

This is the atrium of One Finsbury Circus which can be found in the City of London. Open House has become so popular with budding photographers in recent years and whilst I do have some more quirky compositions from the locations visited I am going to post some of the most obvious ones first.

Many, many more to follow! :-)
