These are not trees but wooden poles of this trabucco.

A trabucco is a massive construction built from wood, which consists of a platform anchored to the rock by large logs of pine of Aleppo, jutting out into the sea, from where two (or more) long arms called antennae stretch out suspended some feet above the water and supporting a huge, narrow-meshed, net (called trabocchetto).

The morphology of the Gargano coast and of Abruzzo determined the presence of two different types of trabucco: the Garganic trabucco is usually anchored to a rocky platform, longitudinally extended to the coastline, from which the antennae depart.

The variant of Abruzzo and Molise, also called bilancia, often insists on shallower coasts and therefore is characterized by the presence of a platform, transversal to the coast, which is connected by a tight bridge made of wooden boards. A bilancia has just one winch, often electrically operating, even when the sea is perfectly calm. Abruzzo bilancia has also a net much smaller than that of Gargano trabucco, another feature that differentiates the two types is the length and number of antennae, more extensive Gargano (also double that of Abruzzo and Molise) in Termoli balances were more than two antennae, Gargano always two or more. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trabucco

One of those shots where if I managed to take two steps to the left the composition would have been perfect, unfortunately I was standing right of the edge of the loch as it was. I think it looks good in black and white to emphasise the mist and contrast with the trees in the distance.

European Robin / Rotkehlchen (Erithacus rubecula)

my little helper in our garden - Frankfurt-Nordend

After 2 days of boring skies, I was treated to an awesome sky for the evening and morning of my last day. As I watched the clouds roiled and rolled into some fantastic shapes.

Undulatus asperatus (or alternately, asperatus) is a cloud formation, proposed in 2009 as a separate cloud classification by the founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society. If successful it will be the first cloud formation added since cirrus intortus in 1951 to the International Cloud Atlas of the World Meteorological Organization. The name translates approximately as roughened or agitated waves

These clouds are most closely related to undulatus clouds. Although they appear dark and storm-like, they tend to dissipate without a storm forming. The ominous-looking clouds have been particularly common in the Plains states of the United States, often during the morning or midday hours following convective thunderstorm activity. Creating some great captures was a cinch. I managed to get to several locations for multiple compositions during the display. I felt so lucky to have bagged this shot because I was supposed to be in Death Valley that day but because of unseen circumstances I was forced to shoot for 3 days in the same location, which is rare for me, I usually try to moved to a new location from day to day. As a result of my immobility I decided to skip all the arches and to focus on finding hidden compositions that maybe nobody else has seen before. :)

Thank you for taking the time to take a look at my photos and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a Happy Easter weekend my friends :)

If you have any questions about this photo or about photography in general, I will do my best to help, just post a comment or send me a Flickr mail and I will respond as quickly as possible.

A long exposure with the Hoya Pro ND32, which I think creates a 'dry ice' effect around the exposed rocks. The sea was pretty rough and I managed to grab my tripod just in time after this shot to avoid a soaking :)

Rügen :: Sellin :: Baltic Sea

Mt. Robson is called the Monarch of the Canadian Rockies, and for good reason. Not only is it the highest Canadian peak in the range, at 12,997 feet, but it is a world-class climbing challenge. Mountain climbers admire and respect this mountain. It has earned another name: "The Great White Fright," as only 10% of climbers reach the top.

This is one of the first views of this huge mountain as one approaches from the west on the Yellowhead Highway.

A couple other images in comments for comparison.
