What:

A very full Finch feeder with a couple on the "waiting line" :-)

About:

My buddy has always had quite a few birds at his place about 1/2 hour outside the city in Beaverbank (don't laugh) but after he installed this funky new feeder they just come in droves!

I've only ever had one pair at my place!! sheesh...

The name of Canada has been in use since the earliest European settlement in Canada, with the name originating from a First Nations word kanata (or canada) for "settlement", "village", or "land". (Wikipedia) Most still-spoken Iroquoian languages have a similar word (e.g. Mohawk kana:ta "town"). (Online Etymology Dictionary)

Bjarnarflag Geothermal Power Plant just at midnight. We were going out the Myvatn Natural Baths, and we saw the light of the Midnight Sun.

It was the only time I forgot the camera at our place, so I had to drive all the way to Skutustadir and then, come back.

The Power Plant is such a strange place, with chimneys and steam vents everywhere. The ground is burning. The light at midnight made this place much more surreal, like a base on Mars...so I decided to shoot at a very long exposure speed, like 6 minutes. The steam and reflections of the sky in the small Blue Lagoon lake made it.

Bjarnarflag, Myvatn area, Iceland.

Here you have another image of my bike journey which was very productive as you see. Although a storm threatened, these beautiful clouds unloaded before reaching where I was.

One of our tours in Northern Spain along the Atlantic Coast ended in the aquarium Donostia-San Sebastián. I haven't been in an aquarium for some years.

There are a number of tropical aquariums, an oceanarium, a Caribbean reef with toxic fishes. Exciting was to be inside the Ocean (see in my comment) ... a huge tank with a multitude of marine life species - which can be seen from inside an acrylic tunnel . Going through it you can see for example shark, ray or eel next to you and above you. The visit was worthwhile and very attractive!

I don't like all photos I've taken because it was really dark for my little Canon. I want to show you those from which I hope you like them ;-).

Starfish or sea stars are echinoderms belonging to the class Asteroidea. The names "starfish" and "sea star" essentially refer to members of the Class Asteroidea. However, common usage frequently finds "starfish" and "sea star" also applied to ophiuroids which are correctly referred to as "brittle stars" or "basket stars".

There are 2,000 living species of starfish that occur in all the world's oceans, including the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian as well as in the Arctic and the Southern Ocean (i.e., Antarctic) regions. Starfish occur across a broad depth range from the intertidal to abyssal depths (>6000 m).

Starfish are among the most familiar of marine animals and possess a number of widely known traits, such as regeneration and feeding on mussels. Starfish possess a wide diversity of body forms and feeding methods. The extent that Asteroidea can regenerate varies with individual species. Broadly speaking, starfish are opportunistic feeders, with several species having specialized feeding behavior, including suspension feeding and specialized predation on specific prey.

The Asteroidea occupy several important roles throughout ecology and biology. Sea stars, such as the Ochre sea star (Pisaster ochraceus) have become widely known as the example of the keystone species concept in ecology. The tropical Crown of Thorns starfish (Acanthaster planci) are voracious predators of coral throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Other starfish, such as members of the Asterinidae are frequently used in developmental biology. .... read more Starfish - en.wikipedia

Lake Powell is a reservoir on the Colorado River, straddling the border between Utah and Arizona. It is the second largest man-made reservoir in the United States behind Lake Mead, storing 24,322,000 acre feet (30 km³) of water when full. Lake Powell was created by the flooding of Glen Canyon by the controversial Glen Canyon Dam.

Handling

The car's suspension will feature double wishbones at the front and a multi-link set-up at the rear, coupled with E-Diff and F1-Trac traction control systems, designed to improve the car's cornering and longitudinal acceleration by 32% compared to its predecessors.[4]

The brakes include a prefill function whereby the pistons in the calipers move the pads into contact with the discs on lift off to minimise delay in the brakes being applied.[2] This combined with the ABS has reduced 100–0 km/h (62-0 mph) braking distance to 32.5 metres (107 ft).[6]

It's lights down low as Danbo and the Twins make this Sunday a movie marathon!

Lots of Hayao Miyazaki to gobble up!

Finally got a tripod too! After much debate and persuasion and convincing and begging (actually mostly begging), the Wifey finally approved my nagging request for approval to purchase a tripod! Very timely too as I wanted to shoot this one in really low light where hand holding it will be virtually impossible!

Many thanks to your views and comments!

Hello again everyone. This is a sunset shot from Buffalo Point on Antelope Island on the eastern side of the Great Salt Lake in Utah. This was a shot that came at a very heavy price! Numerous Biting Gnats and mosquitoes were hungrily attacking me as I shot this series of photos! They did not only have me to dine upon, but my nephew and my nieces!

Behind us was a great thunderstorm show, and I kept rotating my camera around to try and catch the lightning! Dang it! Every time I moved it or repositioned my camera, a lightning bolt would strike! Oh well not in the cards for this time.

Tomorrow starts my 5 day photo tour of the Palouse region in eastern Washington. I am extremely excited about that. I have just spent the last day and a half in Glacier National Park. Hopefully I can get a shot or two posted later this week in between all of the awesome crop shots I am about to get.

This is a combination of three exposures (+2, 0, -2) merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. I then used Topaz Adjust to help bring some pop to the exposure and final adjustments in Lightroom 2.

I hope everyone is great and I will be able to catch up on your photo streams later in the week. Thank you for the visits, the comments and faves. Have a great Sunday!

The two most prominent buildings in Shanghai's famous Bund row. View them large on a black background.

Left: The former Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. This building was built between 1921 and 1923 and has a steel frame with a neo-classical outer style. Reflecting the seasonal variations common to Shanghai, the building was the first in Shanghai to have both heating and cooling systems. After the liberation in 1949 the building became the home of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government until 1995. Now it houses the Pudong Development Bank.

Right: The Customs House was built between 1925 and 1927, replacing a smaller Customs House which stood on the same site. The clock in the tower was the largest in Asia when it was built, its face measuring 5.4 metres in diameter with a 3.17 m long minute hand. It still houses the Shanghai Customs department.

A city is a relatively large and permanent settlement.[1][2] Although there is no agreement on how a city is distinguished from a town within general English language meanings, many cities have a particular administrative, legal, or historical status based on local law.

For example, an article of incorporation approved by the local state legislature distinguishes a city government from a town in Massachusetts. In the United Kingdom and parts of the Commonwealth of Nations, a city is traditionally a settlement with a royal charter.[1] Historically, in Europe, a city was understood to be an urban settlement with a cathedral.

Cities generally have advanced systems for sanitation, utilities, land usage, housing, and transportation. The concentration of development greatly facilitates interaction between people and businesses, benefiting both parties in the process. A big city or metropolis usually has associated suburbs and exurbs. Such cities are usually associated with metropolitan areas and urban areas, creating numerous business commuters traveling to urban centers of employment. Once a city expands far enough to reach another city, this region can be deemed a conurbation or megalopolis.
