Golden Gate Bridge from the Marin Headlands - Marin County, California

This morning I had planned on uploading something completely different, but when I saw the foggy conditions over the bay, I decided to head out to the same old spots along the Marin Headlands. As I have said before, I will never get sick of this view. It will never get old to me, and it will never be the same view twice. Sure... Some elements stay the same. The bridge will always be where it is. The places to stand and watch the fog roll in or out will stay the same, but the light, and fog will always change.

This morning the fog was a bit unusual. When I arrived up at the first turnout along the headlands, the fog was flowing east to west just underneath the center section of the bridge. The fog started to surround the north tower, which normally starts to clear as the air warms with the rising sun. Within minutes, the south tower started to become engulfed in the misty haze. The odd thing for me to see was the fog building inside the bay rather than rolling in from the Pacific. I know this has happened before, I have just never seen it in person.

So this is not exactly what I had planned for the day, but its a special view to me, and always will be.

Thanks for the views, comments, nice notes, bad notes, criticism, or whatever else you all can come up with....

On a recent Flickr meet up in San Francisco, CA, Rich , James and I met up with local San Francisco photographer Alan who showed us around a few spots. This spot was complicated to shoot at this time of night. One reason was due to the bright street lighting. The lighting caused heavy shadows on the rail and a yellow tint to the pylons here. I will definitely be back at sunrise to avoid those problems.

Hope you are having a wonderful holiday:)

I am used to seeing the most beautiful skies from the kitchen window, and this evening was no exception.

In the meadow the effect was just the same, deep pink clouds, layers of blue sky and little 'puffs' of pink cloud.

The oak tree in the meadow is in the central line of vision, so I had no alternative but to include it.

- Tu as enfin compris.

The Little Fairy dream was that people never stop believing in their dreams ... It was the Fairy of Dreams and particulierdes Wish Fools, were those she loved plus.Mais, afterwards some time Little Fairy had lost hope of realizing her dreams ... She did not believe hard enough, he came there often to think. Was she right or wrong, that was not the issue. The question was where the little glimmer of hope was gone. She had sought in vain behind his big projects, small fears, his great anguish over his memories ... Nowhere. The glimmer of hope had once disappeared without her noticing Coptic. An unhappy love him avit broken heart into a thousand pieces. Yes, fairies are not the abir a heartache despite all the happiness they give to the world. Little Fairy could no longer believe in the dreams of others, it could be the Fairy of Dreams ... But it was all her life she was a fairy. What would become of her if she was not a fairy? She began to cry ... She was alone in a quiet wood, and only she could finally emptied his heart of all the sadness she had accumulated all those years ... After crying all the tears in her body, she felt a warmth on his face despite his closed eyelids, she could see a glimmer of brightness extraordinary. She dared not open his eyes. Then she heard a voice as gentle as a whisper he said:

- You have finally understood.

She opened her eyes and saw a little fairy color sun like him as two drops of water sitting on a branch. She dared to speak:

- Understood what?

- You are the Fairy of Dreams, but you also have your dreams. Do not you forget it. Your dreams are as important as those that you help to save the world. If you do not believe in your dreams then all the dreams will die too ...

- I do not understand ...

The fairy has a halo of golden said:

- Even the dreams that die have existed. They had to die to make room for another dream. You can not realize all the dreams. And to fulfill a dream, you really believe it. I ran away because I found myself at my place ...

The little fairy was silent a moment, then continued:

- You were so sad and you seemed to have lost all hope that I decided to help ...

Small cut in the fairy exclaimed:

- But you abandoned me ...

- No, I have not abandoned. I gave you the opportunity to find you, deliver you from your grief and to believe in you again! Do not you feel a difference?

Little Fairy closed his eyes and felt in his breast a fire so intense but gentle ... She had never felt so good. When she opened her eyes all the fairy gold was gone, Little Fairy understood and smiled at this. She got up and started walking. When she turned one last time to try to see her, she heard the small voice of the fairy windblown say:

"Never stop believing in your dreams, never, never ..."

Heck cattle were developed in the early 20th century by the Heck brothers in Germany in an attempt to breed back modern cattle to their ancestral form, the aurochs. Lutz Heck, director of the Berlin Zoological Gardens, began extensive breeding programs supported by the Nazis during World War II to bring back the aurochs. The reconstructed aurochs fitted into the Nazi propaganda drive to create an idyllic history of the Aryan Nation. The breeding back is a controversial procedure in the scientific community: once a genetic lineage is gone, it cannot be bred back. Only 39 of the crossed cattle survived World War II. A Heck bull should be at least 1.6 m high and a cow 1.4 m with weight up to 900 kg. Heck cattle are twenty to thirty centimeters shorter than the aurochs they were bred to resemble. However, cross-breeding efforts continue to increase the size and weight of the breed. The Heck cattle development which is seen by some as competition to the conservation of the surviving native Wisent European Bison. Nevertheless, in view of today's farm breeding programs, the Heck cattle represent an important source of vital genes since ther Heck cattle are rarely affected by diseases than any other old farm breeds. Heck cattle are considered by some the most suitable cattle breed for low intensity grazing systems in certain types of nature reserves, due to their ruggedness and lack of need for human care. There are about 3000 Heck cattle in Europe and few elsewhere. In Oostvaardersplassen in Flevoland near Lelystad Netherlands, there are about 570 Heck cattle freely roaming without human interference.

I only noticed the tall shadows viewing it from a hill. When you're standing in the shadows you don't notice it anymore. I captured it a bit under exposed which brings the shadow much more alive! Photo of Heck cattle in the harsh winter taken at the Dutch nature reserve Oostvaardersplassen between Almere and Lelystad. I did enter the park at the Kottertocht entrance. It is hard to survive the winter. All animals are kept without supplemental winter feeding. In the last 2009 winter 2% of Heck cattle, 7% of Konik horses and 11% of Red deer died due to the cold winter. Many deer already crossed the frozen water in search for food. Some horses were stucked due to their weight did crush the too thin ice. These konik horses where consuming the fibres of tree trunks, because food is very hard to find, although it is not there daily nutrition. Especially when there is deep snow, lack of food causes starvation among the weak and the strongest will survive . So the survival of the fittest keeps the herds strong and healthy. Also Foxes, which are quite common in this reserve, profit from carcasses of deer, cows and birds in winter. Maybe in future a pack of Wolves could do a great job as natural predators in this part of Holland.

St Mawes is a lovely little town in Cornwall, opposite Falmouth. It lies on the east bank of the Carrick Roads, a large waterway created after the Ice Age from an ancient valley which flooded as the melt waters caused the sea level to rise dramatically, creating an immense natural harbour, often claimed to be the third largest in the world.

St. Mawes has a lovely festival in August every year where they light up the town and have music, local events etc. I was on the pier that evening and shot this, which came out remarkably well considering I'd only just had this camera for a few days and hadn't shot anything in literally 20 years!

I'd thoroughly recommend this town for an afternoon's stroll if you're down in Cornwall for the Summer holidays - the icecream shop is to die for and my kids love crabbing off the pier in the early evening.

From a technical perspective this photo came out nicely - I shot at night just as dusk was falling so I managed to retain some of that blue graduation in the sky and on the reflection, which is rather nice. The boats in the foreground make the picture really - a perfectly tranquil scene in a gorgeous Cornish town.

Also to all the photographers that were at Badwater this morning, the guy that was all the way out in the middle of the salt flats, in the water, that was me. So if I was in any of your frames, I do apologize, but the early bird catches the worm!

The title of the image speaks for itself. The salt flats were under water. The further I went out the deeper the water got. It was strange, but it was pretty cool seeing water out there. And a rare sight also.

Oh, and before I forget, to my co-worker Jim R., you missed out on an amazing sunrise, so I hope that Sizzler dinner you had last night was good!

Because;

-Invites without comments

-Award codes without comments

-And because of these I couldn't read the REAL comments in all that clutter,

especially due to the Flickrs New Page.

And I thank to every one who did write something,

really it made me happy to see so much..

Vampires are mythological or folkloric beings who subsist by feeding on the life essence (generally in the form of blood) of living creatures, regardless of whether they are undead or a living person. In folkloric tales, vampires often visited loved ones and caused mischief or deaths in the neighbourhoods they inhabited when they were alive. They wore shrouds and were often described as bloated and of ruddy or dark countenance. This is markedly different from modern fictional portrayals of gaunt, pale vampires beginning in the early 19th century. Although vampiric entities have been recorded in many cultures and according to speculation by literary historian Brian Frost that the "belief in vampires and bloodsucking demons is as old as man himself", and may go back to "prehistoric times", the term vampire was not popularized until the early 18th century, after an influx of vampire superstition into Western Europe from areas where vampire legends were frequent, such as the Balkans and Eastern Europe, although local variants were also known by different names, such as vampir (вампир) in Serbia and Bulgaria, vrykolakas in Greece and strigoi in Romania. This increased level of vampire superstition in Europe led to mass hysteria and in some cases resulted in corpses actually being staked and people being accused of vampirism.

Life is a journey, it’s been said.

It is a story of failure, but also of victory.

It is an experience of sadness, but also of joy.

It is a sketch of despair, but also of hope.

It is a painting of war, but also of brotherhood and friendship.

Went on a little photowalk downtown last Thursday and got some pretty cool shots! This is the front of the Steel Building in downtown Pittsburgh. I have a few other shots of this building, but I never was able to get the front!

This was actually taken during rush hour, but I was able to get my 7 exposures with only a few people in in that I was able to clone out.

Thanks for stopping by my friends!

I don't mind invitations, but please no big, shiny, flashing, glitter graphics, they will be deleted. Thanks!

Panorama Shot of the Manhattan Bridge shot from the Brooklyn Bridge

Looks way better this way

Info

The Manhattan Bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the East River in New York City, connecting Lower Manhattan (at Canal Street) with Brooklyn (at Flatbush Avenue Extension) on Long Island. It was the last of the three suspension bridges built across the lower East River, following the Brooklyn and the Williamsburg bridges. The bridge was opened to traffic on December 31, 1909 and was designed by Leon Moisseiff, who later designed the infamous original Tacoma Narrows Bridge that opened and collapsed in 1940. It has four vehicle lanes on the upper level (split between two roadways). The lower level has three lanes, four subway tracks, a walkway and a bikeway. The upper level, originally used for streetcars, has two lanes in each direction, and the lower level is one-way and has three lanes in peak direction. It once carried New York State Route 27 and later was planned to carry Interstate 478. No tolls are charged for motor vehicles to use the Manhattan Bridge.

The original pedestrian walkway on the south side of the bridge was reopened after sixty years in June 2001. It was also used by bicycles until late summer 2004, when a dedicated bicycle path was opened on the north side of the bridge, and again in 2007 while the bike lane was used for truck access during repairs to the lower motor roadway.

* Main span: 1,470 ft (448 m)

* Length of suspension cables: 3224 ft (983 m)

* Total length: 6,855 ft (2,089 m)

The neighborhood near the bridge on the Brooklyn side, once known as Fulton Landing has been gentrified and is called DUMBO, an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.
