So this is the start of some of my shots from my week in Rotterdam. They are a little but different for me. This one was shot hand held looking down onto the escalator. The hardest part was waiting for a gap in the people using the escalator so I could get a clear shot.

I am sure you all know by now that I like shots with trees, mist and reflections, hence the title. I liked this view as the mist was even softening the trees on the oppostie bank which were only a short distance away.

Heavy snow load ...Crooked but not broken are the old mighty beech trees.
Since some hundred years they stand strong winters.
Although some branches break from time to time,
they survive.

Schwere Schneelast...
Gebeugt, jedoch nicht gebrochen sind die alten mächtigen
Rotbuchen. Seit einigen hundert Jahren widerstehen sie strengen Wintern. Obwohl manche Äste abrechen durch die schwere Schneelast, überleben sie.

The two hills of Valère (on the left) and Tourbillon (on the right) seem to be the guardians of the city of Sion
October waved goodby with sunshine and warm tempereratures and we used the perfect weather for an extended hiking tour on the Wittedindsweg, a crest trail on the Wiehengebirge from Porta Westfalica in the East to the Osnabrück area in the West. Before the sun went down we visited the most interesting spots of the Eastern part of the trail.

Meandro del RÃo Aliste
El rÃo Aliste nace en San Pedro de las HerrerÃas, en plena Sierra de la Culebra, y en su viaje pasa por los pueblos que forman el valle que conforma a la región de su mismo nombre, atravesando también Tierra de Alba, donde adquiere aspecto de embalse por influjo de la presa de Ricobayo.
El origen del nombre se debe muy probablemente a la existencia de alisos en su orilla.
Su caudal es muy variable durante su recorrido, llegando al estiaje algunos veranos de años secos, sobre todo en el cauce alto.
En invierno lleva bastante agua con las aportaciones de los pequeños afluentes y arroyuelos que discurren desde la Sierra de la Culebra.
Vertebra las comarcas de Aliste y Tierra de Alba, discurriendo por entre un cerrado valle y describiendo meandros pronunciados.
Not nearly as much ice this year compared to the past few, so I'm digging back in the archives for one taken a year ago. Hoping to get some new icy lighthouse pics this winter...

Parque Güell - Barcelona
En 1900, cuando se inició la construcción del Park Güell, Barcelona era una metrópolis moderna y cosmopolita que basaba su economÃa en la potencia de su industria y que superaba el medio millón de habitantes. Ya hacÃa casi medio siglo que se habÃan derribado sus murallas y la ciudad nueva, el Ensanche proyectado por el ingeniero Ildefons Cerdà , habÃa crecido de manera espectacular a partir de 1860. Fue la mayor operación urbanÃstica del siglo XIX en Europa.
Cerdà habÃa estudiado a fondo las dificultades del crecimiento moderno en la Barcelona amurallada y el impacto que suponÃan los cambios tecnológicos, en especial, el ferrocarril. El plano de su propuesta de Plan de Ensanche multiplicaba por diez la superficie de Barcelona y era fruto de una visión práctica de la ciudad. Cerdà concebÃa el plan como un instrumento flexible para propiciar, con espÃritu reformista, la formación de una ciudad moderna que fuera más eficaz, más saludable y más justa.
La expansión de Barcelona fue muy rápida a lo largo de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, y el Ensanche fue extendiéndose por la llanura. Su área central comenzó a perfilarse como un gran centro burgués, y la urbanización avanzaba también por sus flancos, en dirección a los viejos suburbios fabriles de la llanura, con un carácter más popular e industrial.
La Exposición Universal de 1888 puso de manifiesto en Europa y en el mundo la pujanza de Barcelona, capital de una nación catalana renaciente, e impulsó la búsqueda de un nuevo lenguaje artÃstico y de representación urbana. Ahà radica el éxito del modernismo catalán, muy presente en el corazón del Eixample, y de la obra de un arquitecto tan singular como fue Antoni GaudÃ.

Polyommatus icarus (argus bleu)
I shot this nice butterfly in backlight against a uniform cloudy sky, resulting in a white background. So, I decided to merge the butterfly image with a bokeh image, taken with a 300mm lens at full opening to get perfectly round bokeh patterns.
