On this day a levada walk was on the agenda. Due to the previous storm we could not reach the original starting point of our hike and so we had to follow the Levada Ribeira da Janela in the opposite direction and return the same way - not optimal, but of course very easy to see in terms of timing. So we first hiked uphill, which was very easy given the slight gradient of the water channels, and returned after about 3 hours and a break. As it turned out, it was a beautiful tour with some tunnels to cross and a great waterfall. But what inspired me even more was this green "hell" - you really felt like you were in the jungle - unbelievably and unbelievably beautiful.

An diesem Tag stand eine Levada-Wanderung auf dem Programm. Aufgrund des vorausgegangenen Unwetters konnten wir den ursprünglichen Ausgangspunkt unserer Wanderung nicht erreichen und so mussten wir in umgekehrter Richtung der Levada Ribeira da Janela folgen und auf dem gleichen Wege wieder zurückkehren - nicht optimal, aber natürlich vom Timing her sehr einfach zu überblicken. So wanderten wir zunächst bergauf, was bei dem leichten Gefälle der Wasserkanäle sehr einfach war und kehrten nach rund 3 Stunden und einer Pause wieder zurück. Wie sich herausstellte eine wunderschöne Tour mit einigen Tunnels, die es zu durchqueren gab, sowie einem tollen Wasserfall. Was mich aber fast noch mehr begeisterte war diese grüne "Hölle" - man kam sich echt wie im Dschungel vor - unglaublich und unglaublich schön.

Baiyoke Tower 2 is the newer building and was completed in 1998. It has 88 floors and a height of 302 meters. The Baiyoke Sky Hotel is the tallest hotel in Thailand. This hotel features a revolving rooftop terrace, an observation deck and 7 dining options. Baiyoke Sky Hotel is located in the central Pathumwan area of Bangkok. From the highest floor, it is possible to overlook the city, including the Menan River and the Gulf of Thailand in the distance. The building offers a unique view of Bangkok and the surrounding area, making it a popular tourist attraction.
Weinig steden ter wereld spreken zo tot de verbeelding als Bangkok. Sierlijke paleizen waar koninklijke processies plaatsvinden, boeddhistische tempels waar monniken oude tempels zingen, kanalen die naar een doolhof van watermarkten leiden, nachtbazaars die nooit slapen - zijn al lang een sterke magneet voor reizigers gebleken. The Royal Grand Palace is a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. The palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam and later Thailand since 1782. It consists of not only royal and throne halls, but also a number of government offices as well as the renowned Temple of the Emerald Buddha. It covers an area of 218,000 square metres and is surrounded by four walls, 1900 metres in length. After King Rama I ascended to the throne in 1782, the palace was built. Prior to this, the royal palace and centre of administration had been located in Thonburi, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. For various reasons, the new King considered the former capital to be unsuitable and decided to establish a new capital on the other side of the river. Admission fee is free of charge for Thais and 500 baht for foreigners. You'll need to wear culturally appropriate attire when visiting the Grand Palace in Bangkok. This means being well covered. Visitors should wear long skirts/trousers and sleeved shirts—basically anything that covers more than the lower arms and head. Fortunately, after the covid period, it is not yet busy with tourists. Thailand has just ended their quarantine policy. Face masks are no longer mandatory. Great to visit the Grand Palace one more time now and see the Prasat Phra Thep Bidorn, a corncob-shaped tower, called a prang, and Phra Mondop Library with green and blue mirrored tiles, on the upper terrace of Wat Phra Kaew.
The Royal Pantheon is located on the east side of the upper terrace near the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. In 1782, King Rama I founded the Chakri dynasty in Bangkok. This building with a corncob-shaped tower (called a prang) also called Prasat Phra Thep Bidorn. It is only open to the public on Chakri Day, which is celebrated on April 6. Next to the Royal Pantheon is the gilded Phra Mondop Library Phra Mondop. The monuments of the Royal insignia are four monuments containing the nine insignia of the kings of the Chakri dynasty. In 1882, on the centenary of Bangkok's founding, Rama V ordered the construction of three monuments in the shape of a butsabok throne to house images of previous kings' insignia. These insignia were based on the personal seals of the kings. A fourth was later added to house later kings. They surround the Phra Mondop on every corner. Each of the golden butsabok thrones is built on raised marble pedestals, on each side with inscriptions describing each king's contribution to the construction or repair of the temple itself. On each of the corners are two miniature gold multi-tiered umbrellas: the four on the top floor have seven tiers, and those on the bottom floor have five tiers. Around the monuments are bronze miniature elephants; these represent the white elephants that are important in the reign of every king.

Thailand heeft zojuist hun quarantainebeleid beëindigd. Mondkapjes zijn niet meer verplicht. Geweldig om het Grand Palace nu nog een keer te bezoeken. Het Koninklijk Pantheon in het Grand Palace met een maïskolfvormige toren een prang genoemd bevindt zich aan de oostkant van het bovenste terras bij de tempel van de smaragdgroene Boeddha. In 1782 stichtte koning Rama I, de Chakri-dynastie in Bangkok. Dit gebouw, ook wel Prasat Phra Thep Bidorn genoemd, Het is alleen open voor het publiek op Chakri-dag, die op 6 april wordt gevierd. Naast deze sprang staat de vergulde Phra Mondop-bibliotheek. De Phra Mondop is versierd met 16 zuilen plus groene en blauwe spiegeltegels met kleine gouden beeldhouwwerk van Boeddha. Het is de belangrijkste bibliotheek voor de boeddhisten in het Grand Palace.

Castillo de Santa Bárbara is located on the 166 meter high mountain Benacantil. Bronze Age, Iberian and Roman artifacts have been found on the slopes of this mountain, but the castle's origins date back to the 9th century at the time of the Muslim rulers, from 711 to 1296. The Church of Saint Catalina is one of the oldest in the city. The construction of the Church dates back to the Reconquista era. I'm sorry for my delay which is greater than ever but I was hiking all last weekend, to enjoy the sun, the sea of clouds and the rest of snow in the Vosges. And despite this delay, I wanted to publish a last shot in 2021, just before Christmas Day.

Je suis désolé pour mon retard qui est plus grand que jamais mais j'étais en randonnée pendant tout le week-end dernier, pour profiter du soleil, de la mer de nuages et du reste de neige dans les Vosges. Et malgré ce retard, je tenais à publier un ultime cliché en 2021, juste avant le jour de Noël.
France. Alpes. Département des Hautes Alpes (05). Massif des Ecrins. Photo prise lors d'une randonnée en famille, en aller-retour, sur le Sentier des Crevasses, au départ d'un parking situé tout près du Col du Lautaret. Nos filles avaient moins de 2 et 4 ans. Je portais la plus petite dans mon dos et on essayait de faire marcher la plus grande au maximum, comme sur cette photo. Juin 2009, c'était nos premières vacances dans les Alpes avec un appareil photo numérique. Nos vacances précédentes dans les Alpes remontaient à 2001, quand nous avions encore des appareils argentiques.
Le Sentier des Crevasses nous a offert de magnifiques vues dans 3 directions :
- Au début sur le Massif de Combeynot et la Pyramide de Laurichard (en direction du Sud), comme sur ce cliché
- Sur la Reine Meije et ses voisins (direction Ouest-Sud-Ouest)
- Sur le Galibier et ses voisins (direction Nord-Nord-Est)
Mais quand le sentier est humide (et c'était le cas), la traversée des nombreuses ravines est compliquée si on veut éviter de mettre les pieds dans l'eau ou dans la boue. 😂
NB : La photo étant de qualité médiocre en zoomant, je l'ai publiée avec une résolution plus faible que d'habitude, pour limiter le zoom.

L'Ebre, vist des del pont vell de Mora d'Ebre. Aquest pont (ara de ciment, abans de ferro), fou volat abans de la batalla, pel que no es va fer servir. Els republicans construiren diversos ponts militars més amunt i més avall. Un d'ells estava situat cap a on el riu fa una corba.
La batalla de l'Ebre (25 juliol - 16 novembre de 1938) fou la més important i mortifera de la guerra civil espanyola. Hi ha que també la consideren també la més decisiva, però crec que per desgracia la guerra ja estava decidida de molt abans, com a minim des del trencament del front d'Aragó el 9 de març del mateix any.
Tot i que l'exèrcit republicà creuà l'Ebre el 25 de juliol del 1938 per molts punts entre Mequinensa i Amposta, la major part dels combats de la batalla es donaren a la Terra Alta, a la zona entre Vilalba dels Arcs, La Fatarella, Camposines i Gandesa, a més de la Serra de Pandols.

This is part of the Ebro battlefield (1938), in Southern Catalonia.
This is the river Ebro seen from the post-war bridge at Mora d'Ebre. This bridge was destroyed before the battle, so it was not used by the Republican forces. Instead they used several military timber or steel bridges, routinely bombed by the fascist aerial forces. One of these was located in that curve of the river.
The Battle of the Ebro (July 25 - November 16, 1938) was the most important and deadlier of the Spanish Civil War. There are those who also consider it the most decisive, but I think that unfortunately the war was already decided long before, at least since the breaking of the front of Aragon on March 9 of the same year.
The battle began with the greatest offensive made by the Republican forces, when they crossed the river Ebro between Mequinensa and Amposta (especially between Riba-roja and Miravet), and advanced to the line La Pobla de Massaluca -Vilalba dels Arcs -Gandesa - Serra de Pandols . But in just 48 hours, the dazzling advance was stopped short. Then Franco decided to crush the republican forces hill by hill (with massive artillery and bomber barrages), in a battle of attrition identical to the First World War for which the Republicans had no resources or alternative, especially with the river behind them. The main assaults, which lasted from August 10 to October 29, were concentrated in a very small and devastated area: the triangle Vertex Gaeta - Corbera - Camposines.
Finally, a final offensive on October 30 occupied the ridge of the Serra de Cavalls, making the entire Republican bridgehead unsustainable, which managed, however, to withdraw in an orderly manner until November 16. But the damage was already done, and there were no forces left for a proper defense of Catalonia, which fell three months later. Then, fascist darkness.

France. Alpes. Département des Hautes Alpes (05). Massif des Cerces. Photo prise lors d'une randonnée en boucle effectuée en famille au fond de la Vallée de la Clarée. Nous sommes partis du parking de Fontcouverte. Nous avons rejoint successivement le Lac Laramon (sur la photo), le Lac de la Cula, le Pont du Moutet et le Refuge de Laval. Puis nous sommes revenus en longeant la Clarée. C'était mon 5ème jour de rando sur les 17 jours où j'ai pu randonner lors de notre séjour alpin de 3 semaines pendant l'été 2021.
La photo a été prise depuis le Lac Laramon, situé sur la rive gauche de la Clarée (au-dessus du Refuge de Ricou). Les sommets qui se reflètent dans le lac sont situés sur la rive opposée de la Clarée (donc sur la rive droite). Sur la moitié gauche de la photo, on peut voir la Crête du Queyrellin (2935m). Pour les sommets que l'on peut voir sur la moitié droite de la photo, je vous laisse survoler la photo pour voir les légendes que j'ai apposées.
De tous les lacs où je me suis rendu jusqu'à présent, je crois que ce lac est celui qui m'a offert les plus beaux reflets. Et d'ailleurs, cette vue est vraiment la vue classique que les gens prennent en photo quand ils passent au Lac Laramon.
Sinon, comme vous pouvez le constater sur la photo, nous avons été très gâtés par les conditions météo, avec un grand ciel bleu ! Et cerise sur le gâteau, nous avons eu la chance que la lune s'invite dans le décor. 🙏😊

Staying with the Lawrence Collection to end the week we have a magnificent view of St. Mary's Abbey and Howth before the bay was filled in. I imagine that most people think that the Abbey is a tavern rather than an ancient place of learning and worship/

"The Matterhorn (German), Monte Cervino (Italian) or Mont Cervin (French), is a mountain in the Pennine Alps on the border between Switzerland and Italy. Its summit is 4,478 meters (14,690 ft) high, making it one of the highest peaks in the Alps.[2] The four steep faces, rising above the surrounding glaciers, face the four compass points. The mountain overlooks the town of Zermatt in the canton of Valais to the north-east and Breuil-Cervinia in the Aosta Valley to the south. The Theodul Pass, located at the eastern base of the peak, is the lowest passage between its north and south side.

For a change, this is a new (outside!) photo, taken just a few days ago at the wonderful Britzer Garten, one of Berlin's biggest and most beautiful public parks (please check my album for more "Britz bliss", if you like).
For better dynamic range, I've used exposure bracketing (three images), pre-processed the images in DXO PhotoLab (sharpness and DeepPrime denoising only), from which I directly went into HDR Efex Pro to combine the images. I'm trying to get away from the annual Adobe subscription, and combining images from an exposure bracketing series in HDR Efex instead of Lightroom is one step into that direction. Unfortunately, whenever I think I can finally leave Adobe behind for good they come up with improvements such as the new "supersize" function (now also available in LR), a ton of new presets for LR, and other interesting stuff (and I'm still used to the LR/PS workflow, and the layers in PS). Well, maybe I'll be ready next year ;)
Extra sliding was done in Color Efex, where I added some "Brilliance and Warmth" and a tiny bit of "Contrast Color Range".

The morning 7th of February I woke up to see Amsterdam covered in a coat of fresh snow. The snow fell in sudden flurries and gusts and turned the world white and wonderful. With the canals in the city and occasional high winds, there can be a nip in the air, but packing gloves and a scarf should keep you warm enough. There is something very beautiful about Amsterdam in the winter. It snowed for the second time this winter in Amsterdam. Because the temperature was -4 degrees Celsius the snow stayed. The real feel temperature was -11 degrees Celsius cause there was a strong wind and drifting snow. It got more than a few centimeters of snow. The best advice is to stay indoors and turn the stove up a bit. Or of course to go outside to take some nice pictures. The snow is a rare highlight in these February dark days, especially when you have small children. It is quite difficult to come up with something fun in these Covid-19 lock-down days. After a while, sitting indoors becomes quite monotonous for such a toddler. This is a welcome change. The snow also provides a lot of fun for children and adults here in Amsterdam. Snowball fight, make snowmen, go sledding and adults go cross-country skiing. All fun activities that people do in this beautiful snowy world.
Storm Darcy was a storm that hit parts of Western Europe from February 7, 2021. In the Netherlands, Belgium, the east of the United Kingdom and parts of the north and west of Germany, strong winds were accompanied by drifting snow, creating snow dunes. The last heavy snowstorm in Amsterdam dates from 1985. Photo taken in the Haarlemmerstraat next to Coffeeshop Amsterdamned located in Amsterdam’s Jordaan district, – and its extension the Haarlemmerdijk. Normally a lot of activity in this street that focuses on tourism. Now during the Lockdown everything closed with a few lost tourists in the distance. The Haarlemmerstraat is a gem. Offering independent boutiques and special stores, little salons, trendy but affordable restaurants and bars and the oldest cinema in Amsterdam, this area will appeal to even the most jaded of world travelers. You are guaranteed to find a special little something from Amsterdam in this alternative shopping district. The street are packed with boutique shops, cafes, coffee shops and with one little cozy dining and drinking spot after another and other interesting places to visit. The next days it will keep on snowing. Expected more than 17 cm snow in Amsterdam. It's a joy to walk around in my neighborhood.

Het is min vier graden en het blijft vandaag de hele dag sneeuwen. Met een stevige wind is de gevoelstemperatuur zelf -11 graden. Mijn handschoenen en m'n sjaal houden mij warm genoeg. Er is iets heel moois over Amsterdam in de winter. Amsterdam is bedolven onder dik pak sneeuw. Het beste advies is dan maar om lekker binnen te blijven en de kachel iets hoger te zetten. Of natuurlijk even naar buiten te gaan om wat mooie plaatjes te schieten. In Amsterdam heeft het nu voor de tweede keer deze winter gesneeuwd. Bij deze temperatuur blijft de sneeuw liggen. Er is meer dan enkele centimeters sneeuw gevallen. De sneeuw is een zeldzaam hoogtepunt tijdens de donkere lock-down dagen in februari. Foto gemaakt in de Haarlemmerstraat naast Coffeeshop Amsterdamned in de Jordaan, en het verlengde daarvan de Haarlemmerdijk. Normaal gesproken is er veel bedrijvigheid in deze straat die zich richt op toerisme. Nu tijdens de Lockdown alles gesloten met een paar verdwaalde toeristen in de verte. De Haarlemmerstraat is een juweeltje. Met onafhankelijke boetieks en speciale winkels, kleine salons, trendy maar betaalbare restaurants en bars en de oudste bioscoop van Amsterdam, zal dit gebied zelfs de meest afgematte wereldreizigers aanspreken. Those who think away for a while can imagine themselves in Hendrick Avercamp's world today. As one of the first landscape painters of the 17th-century Dutch school, he specialized in painting the Netherlands in winter. Some 400 years on, our image of life in the harsh winters of the Golden Age is still dominated by Avercamp’s ice scenes with their splendid narrative details of couples skating, children pelting each other with snowballs and unwary individuals falling through the ice. The snow is during the lock-down days an uninhibited winter fun in the streets of Amsterdam. Since the first snow had stuck to the ground, the neighborhood has turned out for a carefree winter entertainment. The next days it will keep on snowing. Expected more than 17 cm snow in Amsterdam. Enjoy a thick layer of snow in your own neighborhood.

Wie even wegdenkt, waant zich vandaag in de wereld van Hendrick Avercamp. De komende dagen blijft het sneeuwen. Verwacht meer dan 17 cm sneeuw in Amsterdam.
I had so much fun with the one can for macro Mondays I figured why stop. Not constrained to the 3" rule I thought I could work with the whole can. Sourcing empty cans was easier than I thought, a quick walk along a back road provided all I needed. It seems that after consuming a can of this stuff, the arm goes into motion mode that inevitably leads to the can winding up on the side of the road.
Each can was shot individually with my Nikon 55mm f/2.8 NIKKOR Micro with about a 6 image focus stack. They do seem to have a lot of potential for art. Three cans, a wavy window and yummy glow colors make this slider complete!

This is the skyline of Metro Manila. The City of Manila is just one of the 16 cities that formally make up the metro. With 13 million population in a limited space, the metro is very dense and a breeding ground for the virus. And we are on a semi-lockdown again. Just like the picture, things are looking bleak.
I'll post a beach picture next time. Let us focus on things that make us happy 😊

It will be k-k-cold this weekend. The temperature can drop to -15 degrees celcius and that means of course only one thing: skating! After a few nights of good frost we could skate on February 12, 2021 at the Gouwsea. Waterland in the winter is a real skater’s paradise. As temperatures plunge across Europe, many are cursing the cold. But not in the Netherlands. Many are hoping for further frigid conditions. Today my daughter Samantha and friend Casper are joying me skating. A historical moment since crossing the Gouwsea by skates is such a rare occurrence. Today we skate 12km from Uitdam, de Nes to Marken and back, such a beautiful sea of ice to enjoy. An infinitely beautiful sight on this icy sea in 2021. It was a pleasure. The meadows here are white, the Gouwzee completely frozen and the breath comes out of my mouth in small gray puffs. Put your hands behind your back. Breathe calmly. I enjoy the sound of the irons over the ice and the beautiful view of the snowy landscape . The ice surface is great here. Besides ice skating Dutch also love Ice yachting. This is the sport of sailing and racing iceboats and is very popular in the Netherlands. Ice boats are racing at a speed of 100 km an hour over the ice of the Gouwsea. The centre of ice yachting is in Monnickendam.
Today 12th of February 2021 we got the opportunity to go ice skating on real ice instead of going to an ice rink. A good freeze only comes from a win in the climatic lottery. Thus the chance for our Dutch to be wild adventurers on their own land comes only every few years. We glide across solidified, frosted lakes with fish frozen into the ice. The Gouwsea in the winter are a real skater’s paradise. In Monnickendam the ice is only suitable for ice yachting. From here the ice yachtings are crossing the Gouwzee to Marken. We visit Monnickendam. Portrait of my daughter Samantha and friend Casper walking on the vast frozen Gouwsea. From Monnickendam to Marken island is about 4km of disctance. It is not often that the Gouwsea is completely frozen.
Het wordt k-k-koud dit weekend. De temperatuur kan dalen tot wel -15 graden en dat betekent natuurlijk maar één ding: schaatsennn! Na een paar nachten goede vorst konden we op 12 februari 2021 schaatsen op de Gouwzee. Na een extra nacht van vorst ligt het ijs er redelijk goed bij. Eindelijk weer heerlijk ijs om voor schaatsliefhebbers de ijzers onder te binden. Er kan heerlijk kilometers geschaatst worden tussen Uitdam, De Nes en Marken. Vandaag gaat mijn dochter Samantha mij met vriend Casper. Je beleeft de natuur op plekken waar je normaal niet kan komen. De Gouwzee is een paradijs voor schaatsers uit het westen van Nederland, omdat het meestal het eerste grootschalige gebied is waar men goed kan schaatsen op natuurijs. Maar het blijft een historische gebeurtenis. Vele schaatsenrijders zoeken vandaag de bevroren oppervlakte van de Gouwzee op voor een schaatsrit langs de dijk van Uitdam, De Nes naar Marken. Een mooie rit van zo'n 12km. Een oneindig mooi gezicht op deze ijszee anno 2021. Het was genieten. De weilanden zijn hier wit, de Gouwzee totaal bevroren en de adem komt in kleine grijze pufjes uit mijn mond. Handen op de rug. Rustig ademen. Ik geniet van het geluid van de ijzers over het ijs en het prachtige uitzicht over de besneeuwde landschap. Het ijs is geweldig hier. De ijszeilers hebben hun plek in Monnickendam. Hier is het ijs te slecht om te schaatsen, maar voor de ijszeilers geen probleem. Vanaf hier steken ze de Gouwzee over naar Marken. Een oneindig mooi gezicht op deze ijszee anno 2021. Het was genieten. Jong en oud staan op het ijs, zelfs koek en zopie is present bij de zeilclub van Monnickendam. Met spectaculaire snelheden van wel 80 tot 100 kilometer per uur razen de ijszeilers over bevroren meren en plassen: ijszeilers hebben deze dagen de tijd van hun leven. The Rozewerf is a hamlet located on the Marken peninsula surrounded by water near Amsterdam. Rozewerf still got the original look of this ancient settlement which are still the characteristic and monumental buildings. It's really just on the dike that protects the water, once the Zuiderzee now the Markermeer. The area around Rozewerf was also regularly flooded after it came to be by the sea. Eventually a low dike was constructed leaving only skipped water at larger storms. From the dike has a magnificent view over the many mounds on Marken. Rozewerf, with the right 12 icebreakers which are derived from the 12 apostles. The twelve wooden icebreakers dating in construction in 1872. They are fan-shaped situated in relation to each other. The icebreakers have cultural and historical value because it authentic in appearance and become rare examples of de-icing facilities. Since the construction of the Dam there has been no more trouble. However, it has been affected by the drifting ice in the winter. The lighthouse 'Horse of Marken' stands on its own tiny island at the end of a narrow causeway and is almost completely surrounded by water, which makes its location so photogenic. Particularly in winter, when after a long period of frost during which the IJsselmeer was largely frozen over the thaw set in and the ice was starting to drift you could shoot spectacular pictures here. Fishermen went with a sliding carriage, fishing net, long stick and axe for ice fishing like their ancestors in Marken. Fishing for sparkling and flounder was a nice additional income in those days. It looks like fun but not without risk. In the old days fishermen felt with regularity in a ice-field hole and became super cooled or even drowned.
As temperatures plunge across Europe, many are cursing the cold. But not in the Netherlands. Many are hoping for further frigid conditions. Long sticks with a net on them were then pushed into the hole to bring in the fish. These fish are baked which were nice and crispy. De Rozewerf is een buurtschap gelegen op het voormalig Marken. Rozewerf is van oorsprong een terp, dat een werf wordt genoemd. Deze terp is niet vernoemd naar de kleur maar meer dan waarschijnlijk naar de persoon of familie Roos of Rozen, die de eigenaar of aanlegger is geweest van de werf. Net als de andere ten noorden van Rozewerf gelegen werven stammen de meeste huizen uit de 18e en 19e eeuw. In de loop van de tijd zijn deze wel flink verbouwd. Rozewerf kent net als Grotewerf nog het meest oorspronkelijke uiterlijk van deze oude bewoning waardoor het nog de karakteristieke en monumentale panden heeft. De huizen van Rozewerf staan ook erg dicht op elkaar, er is smalle doorgang door het buurtschapje. Rozewerf ligt echt maar net aan de dijk die het beschermt van het water, ooit de Zuiderzee thans het Markermeer. Het gebied rondom Rozewerf stond ook regelmatig onderwater nadat het aan zee kwam te liggen. Uiteindelijk werd een lage dijk aangelegd waardoor er alleen bij wat grotere stormen water oversloeg. Sinds de aanleg van de Afsluitdijk heeft men daar ook geen last meer van. Wel heeft men last van het kruiende ijs in de winter. Daarom staan er ook ijsbrekers net buiten de dijk in het Markermeer. Er staan 12 ijsbrekers welke zijn afgeleid van de 12 apostelen. De twaalf houten ijsbrekers dateren in aanleg uit 1872. De vuurtoren 'Paard van Marken' staat op zijn eigen piepkleine eilandje aan het einde van een smalle dijk en is bijna volledig omgeven door water, wat de ligging zo fotogeniek maakt. Vooral in de winter met het kruiend ijs kan je hier spectaculaire foto's maken. Vissers gingen net als hun voorouders in Marken met een slede, visnet, lange stok en bijl ijsvissen. In het dikke ijs moesten ze eerst een bijt hakken. Daarin werden dan lange stokken met een net eraan geschoven om de spiering binnen te halen. Het was in die tijd een mooi bijverdienste. Het ziet er leuk uit, maar niet zonder risico. Vroeger vielen vissers met regelmaat door het ijs en raakten onderkoeld of verdronken zelfs.

Photo prise lors d'une rando en boucle partielle effectuée en famille, au départ de Plan Lachat et en passant successivement par les endroits suivants : Les Mottets, Camp puis Col des Rochilles, Lac du Grand Ban, Lac Rond, Seuil des Rochilles, Lac de la Clarée, retour entre les 2 premiers lacs pour monter au Col des Cerces (2574m - point culminant de la rando), Lac des Cerces, puis retour aux Mottets et à Plan Lachat. C'est l'une des plus belles randos que nous ayons faites jusqu'à aujourd'hui et de très loin la plus belle que nous ayons faite en 2013. ❤️
Cet endroit m'a tellement plus que j'espère y retourner cet été 2021. 🙏
C'est d'ailleurs une randonnée ultra classique et très fréquentée, entre Valloire et le Galibier qui est souvent nommée la randonnée des 4 lacs ou des 3 lacs (si on retire le Lac de la Clarée ou le Lac des Cerces). On peut même voir un 5ème lac si le Lac des Mottets n'est pas à sec.
Notre séjour alpin en juillet 2013 a duré 2 semaines mais c'est la seule rando au cours de laquelle j'ai fait plus de 100 photos (et même plus de 200). Et c'est la seule rando où j'ai trouvé des photos à publier (celle-ci et plusieurs autres).
Cette photo est la seule de nos photos de montagne qui soit affichée sur un mur. Elle se trouve au-dessus de mon bureau et je la vois tous les jours ! Je souhaitais la poster depuis un moment et je suis content de la publier ENFIN ! 😊

La photo été prise dans la Combe de la Sambuy, en montant au Col de la Sambuy.
Au centre, on peut voir l'Épaule de la Sambuy (2120m) sous son meilleur profil, qui cache presque complètement le sommet de La Sambuy (2198m) mais celui-ci dépasse quand même très légèrement sur sa gauche (cf. mon indication sur la photo).
À droite, on peut voir le Col de la Sambuy (2080m). Une fois que j'avais rejoint le col, il ne me restait plus beaucoup d'efforts à faire pour rejoindre le sommet de la Petite Sambuy (2107m), en partant à l'opposé de la Sambuy et de son épaule.
Cette rando fut la 1ère rando de notre séjour alpin de l'été 2017. J'y suis allé seul car le dénivelé cumulé était trop important pour nos filles (960m). En fait, même moi, je n'avais jamais fait de rando avec un dénivelé aussi important avant ce jour. Bien sûr, j'aurais pu choisir une rando plus accessible à toute la famille mais les conditions météo étaient très incertaines et on essaie toujours de choisir des jours bien ensoleillés et sans risque de pluie et d'orage pour emmener nos filles. D'ailleurs, j'ai très peu vu le soleil jusqu'en milieu de l'après-midi. C'est là que j'ai pu prendre cette photo. Je suis vraiment très content que les nuages aient laissé passer le soleil à ce moment précis ! 🙏😊
