Apologies for the lack of updates guys. Took some time to recover from a surgery and get my ducks back in a row. A single update this time around but hope to have much more to show soon...
7.10 Sculpt update to the Unidentified Greasy Creature - 1:18 scale - Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
My previous update was on the completed head sculpts, and the beginnings to the body build.
I have finished sculpting both hands, allowing one to be a trigger hand for holding a pistol. The hand sculpt can also hold a vibroblade which appeared to be his main weapon on the show. Still, it’s good that the guy can hold a pistol if needed. He’s a pirate after all.
Started sculpting the boots. The right boot is close to completion with several more details and weathering to be added. The rocker joint works freely under the sheath of the booth leading up to the lower knee. From there, it’s held by a strong magnet. So not bad articulation for a chunky boot sculpt!
The fabric is going to be a mix of sculptural and soft goods. Or maybe all sculptural…don’t know yet. I DO KNOW that the undershirt Greasy is sporting will be sculpted on. I already have the shoulders sculpted.
The apparatus around Greasy’s belly is a build of several layers. The first layer has been applied but I will thin it out a bit before building upon it. This was going to be a removable piece using magnets but after some thought I couldn’t find a reason for it to be a removable piece. It will be applied to some flexible plastic to have some give but mostly a static part of the figure.
23 points of articulation so far. Not SUPER articulation but it’s no tin man LOL!
More updates coming for this guy but I have other projects that need my attention as well. Expect those to be coming soon.
If you took time to read this I appreciate your continued interest in my work and my methodology. It’s a personal love letter to the scale and to action figures in general. It’s a corner of the world where I find solace and I don’t plan to stop anytime soon. I’ve noticed a drop off in interest in my work since I’m not 3D printing everything and selling it all on Etsy. Seems that’s the trend of the hobby these days and traditional sculptors are being left behind. That’s ok, I get it. I am acquiring my first 3D printer later today and it will be awhile before I produce anything of my own while I learn the software but no matter what I learn, it will never take the place of working with my hands and the wonderful imperfections that come with it.
Anyway, more to come!
