Ship navigation in Haaven het Groote Dok - Ramtorenschip De Buffel (Hellevoetsluis/NL)
Navigating the enormous ship in the historic naval harbor requires a lot of steering skills from the tugboats. Divers had previously inspected the passage through the lock near the bridge to ensure that there would be no obstruction to the ship due to the required draft.
It was very impressive for the spectators to see a ship of this size in the harbor. Something that happened much more often in the maritime past of this port when naval ships, but also the even more large historic sailing ships, still had Hellevoetsluis as their home port or were under maintenance in the dry dock..

Ramtorenschip De Buffel (Est. 1896) - this ironclad ram ship was in service of the Royal Dutch Navy until 1973 as "Hr.Ms. Buffel" or "HNLMS Buffel" (NATO number A 884). The first ship of the Royal Dutch Navy without sails, a heavy armored ram ship using a steam engine and two propellers. Equiped with an armament of a ram on her bow, several guns, serviced by a crew of 150 men. Her main task was to play a role in the Dutch coastal defense, later in use as an accommodation ship. From February 7, 2015, the Buffel is permanent moored at the Koningskade, Maritime Quarter of Fortresse Holland together with the other historic ships such as the minesweeper Bernisse, the Lightship 12 de Noord-Hinder (1963) and of course the stone Dry Dock Jan Blanken from 1806 with pump house.
