Day 8 of an Unknown Number

"That Guy"

 

Today's subject is a gift from my sister-in-law. She noticed it/him in a shop, thought it was strange, and that I would like it. She was correct. As usual, I had no plans for the lighting of my subject. However, I then spotted a gold flag, and thought it might make for a nice working surface. It would also work to kick some of the now-warmed light on to the lower parts of our model. Our key light is a strip bank at camera-left, just out of frame. It is feathered so as to avoid any sort of hot spot. To fill in the shadows at camera-right, I used a piece of foam core with a blue gel over it. Blue is the complementary color to gold, and while basically imperceptible.....I know it was there. Lastly, there is a snooted speedlight directly above the head, delivering the highlights on his brow, nose, and possibly the tops of his cheeks. Two lights, and one smug ball of clay.
