Elizabeth

Day 40 of an Unknown Number

"Elizabeth"

Today's image had a brief evolution. After watching the opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics (go, team!), I spotted one of the flowers in an aging bouquet in the kitchen. It appeared so symmetrical, I thought it might make for a purdy picture. With my trusty Plexiglass on the work bench, I flipped on my background strip light I had just used on a beauty care product shoot earlier today. The light created a direct reflection of itself, so the black went white. It was not very interesting. I then moved the light to camera-left, and I immediately liked the pink Dahlia against the black. As I was about to wrap-up my thirty-second shoot, I naturally thought that I should probably try to freeze the flower with some Dust-Off. For those of you who don't already know it, if you turn a can of compressed air upside down, it becomes a freezing weapon. I have frozen/burned myself several times with a can of Dust-Off. So, I inverted the can, and started spraying the flower. Within a few seconds it was frosting over, and I grabbed about four images. This was my favorite because the flower maintained its form for a few seconds before wilting. Also, I loved the frozen areas on the glass. It reminds me of a spot light on a figure skater. I hereby dedicate this image to the ice skaters at this year's Winter Olympics!! Thanks for drifting by!!
