Coyotes and Bison

Once upon a time I would roll my eyes at those who referred to coyote as the trickster. Having spent a great deal more time watching them, I've realized they really are tricksters. On several occasions I watched them meander through bison herds, behaving almost like wolves on the hunt. It is unlikely that even a pack of coyotes could take down a bison calf, so the behavior was a bit amusing. Although most bison ignored them, a few made threat gestures. Coyotes have even been recorded to harass the much more powerful grey wolf. Yellowstone National Park, WY.
