A bull Buffalo near Fort Providence NorthWest Territories Canada. They often follow the roadway eating grass. They are extremely hardy animals surviving bitter cold temperatures that will drop down to -40c in the winter time. Often seen in herds of 20 to 30 animals.

Given its unpredictable temper, the African buffalo is particularly difficult to tame and has never been domesticated like its relative, the Asian water buffalo. Additionally, these animals are considered to be extremely dangerous. They fiercely protect themselves and each other against predators and are known to move in to support another buffalo that is under attack by a lion or other predator. They are very courageous animals.

When the trailing Norfolk Southern power developed issues at East Binghamton Yard in Conklin, New York this Canadian Pacific SD40-2 was added to the point. My friend Jon Kayes tipped us off, so Keith Latimer and I headed towards Sunbury, Pennsylvania on this nice, sunny day. Before catching 11R here at the 273 signals in Dalmatia, we followed NS local H3W south to Herndon with Conrail-painted GP38-2 5259 leading. Position light signals, standard cab EMDs and a variety of scenery made the Buffalo Line my favorite place when I lived in the Keystone State. Plus, it was a spirited chase! Afterwards, we celebrated my (belated) birthday at Appalachian Brewing Company in Harrisburg, what a great day it was.

This airmail beacon had an acetylene powered flashing light that helped pilots keep on course. It was built in the mid-1920's and operated until early 1930's.

The beacon is on the part of Buffalo Valley called "alkali lake" (USGS 7.5' topo "Buffalo Springs NE"). Except for the missing light, it looks like it could still be used.

The wild water buffalo (Bubalus arnee), also called Asian buffalo, Asiatic buffalo and wild buffalo, is a large bovine native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It has been listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List since 1986, as the remaining population totals less than 3,400. A population decline of at least 50% over the last three generations (24–30 years) is projected to continue. 3,100 live in India, mostly in Assam. The wild water buffalo is the most likely ancestor of the domestic water buffalo.

The wild water buffalo occurs in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, and Cambodia, with an unconfirmed population in Myanmar. It is associated with wet grasslands, swamps, flood plains and densely vegetated river valleys. Tigers, mugger crocodiles and Asian black bears feed on adult wild water buffaloes.

In India, it is largely restricted to in and around Kaziranga, Manas and Dibru-Saikhowa National Parks, Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary and Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary and in a few scattered pockets in Assam.

Wild water buffaloes are both diurnal and nocturnal. They are probably grazers by preference, feeding mainly on graminoids when available. They also eat other herbs, fruits, and bark, as well as browsing on trees and shrubs. They also feed on crops, including rice, sugarcane, and jute, sometimes causing considerable damage. – Wikipedia

Buffalo City Hall is a 32-story skyscraper completed in 1931. It is considered one of the finest and most significant examples of Art Deco architecture in the world.

Architecture and Design: Designed by Dietel, Wade, and Jones, the building is famous for its soaring verticality and intricate geometric details. Both the exterior and interior are adorned with mosaics, sculptures, and stained glass celebrating the city's history and industrial prowess.

Observation Deck: On the 28th floor, there is a free public observation deck that provides stunning 360-degree panoramic views of the city, Lake Erie, and, on clear days, the mist rising from Niagara Falls.

Symbolism: The design incorporates many Native American motifs and scenes of industrial labor, representing Buffalo's identity as the "City of Light."

Status: It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building is so massive that it features over 1,500 windows, all uniquely designed to open inward for easier cleaning.

The Buffalo Savings Bank is a historic building in Buffalo, New York, USA. Constructed between 1899 and 1901, it is a prominent example of Beaux-Arts architecture. It was designed by architect Edward B. Green. The building served as the bank's headquarters until the 1970s, with its most notable feature being the gilded dome that crowns the structure. In 1976, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Due to its elegance and iconic dome, it is one of Buffalo's most recognizable landmarks. Today, it is known as the Goldome or Gold Dome Bank. In the late 20th century, the building was restored and repurposed for commercial and office use, adapting to new functions while retaining its original grandeur.

Thanks for visits, faves and comments!

Straight off, I'll be honest with you: I don't know if this is Buffalo Pass at all. Buffalo Pass. The name is quite ironic: I doubt any buffalo ever passed that way! Surely an average buffalo has more sense than me, as will soon become apparent.

Going over Buffalo Pass isn’t like going over the edge of the Niagara Falls. It is a gradual, painful process, quite akin to passing a kidney stone. How is that, you ask? Well, suffice to say that the last 6 miles getting to/past Buffalo Pass (who the hell knows - the passing of Buffalo Pass cannot be perceived by any of the senses), I repeat, the last 6 miles getting to/past Buffalo Pass took an hour and a half, during which our rental Jeep (Grand Cherokee XL, for the record) bottomed out at least three times and we managed to get overtaken six times by the same misearable mountain biker who’s sole aim in life seemed to have been to, you guessed it, get to Buffalo Pass!

But hey, some nightmares have a happy ending. On the way down from Buffalo Pass (though for all I know we may been still passing through it - the bumps in the road sure did not make it feel it was otherwise, and if I didn’t have brain damage before that, I do now!)…… the view opened up.

I slammed on the Jeep's breaks (Grand Cherokee XL, for the record), snapped up my camera, exploded through driver side door so fast that the dust had barely started to settle, and click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click….I shot this panorama, without a thought given to composition, focus or whether I would get a single like on Flickr. If there is a photographers' Heaven - I was in it!

Buffalo Pass? I love it! ❤

The Buffalo Fork River is a tributary of the Snake River and part of it forms a boundary of Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. It has a reputation as a great place to fish, but the water is extremely low now. I liked the view of this huge s-curve and neighboring ranches.

Male African buffalo (Cape Buffalo) - South Africa

This dominant bull is there and closely guards the cows that come into heat.

Cape Buffalo is of the most powerful and dangerous animals on the Africa continent. They attack and kill other animal and people.

These wonderful huge creatures roam freely in the 500 Hectares (1235.5 acres) of Lake Audy Bison Enclosure, in Manitoba, Canada

The buffalo isn't as dangerous as everyone makes him out to be. Statistics prove that in the United States more Americans are killed in automobile accidents than are killed by buffalo.

The most fearsome member of Africa’s big 5 isn’t the lion, or even the elephant, but the buffalo. Known for its fiercely protective nature and incredible strength, Buffalos are considered one of the most dangerous animals to encounter in the wild — and for good reason!

Their unpredictable temperament, coupled with their massive size and sharp horns, has earned them a reputation for charging with surprising speed and ferocity. This aggressive behaviour is why big game hunters added the buffalo to the list of big 5 animals, referring to the five most dangerous animals in Africa to hunt, alongside the lion, leopard, elephant, and rhinoceros.

Peter tells me it is a young cow buffalo. We saw this huge herd walk down the road in Kruger. They surrounded the car, and although they seemed curious, we didn't feel threatened at all. We just had to wait along with a few more people to wander off into the bushes.
