The Waipi'o Valley is a sacred...

The Waipi'o Valley is a sacred place to many. Look at it – it's incredible! Ancient Hawaiian chiefs used to meet here for important decisions, and at one point, thousands lived down in the valley. That all changed when a tsunami devastated this entire coast in 1946. Today, the only people living down there are the ones who don't have modern (in)conveniences like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Although the public is allowed, it is still a place to be respected. You can hike down on foot, pay a tour provider, or take the 25-percent-grade hill if you have four-wheel drive. Yes, 25%! #hawaii #bigisland #waipiovalley

ginienos: Ed and I hiked across the valley floor, up the to the top of that cliff, then another 9 miles in to the next valley. That's where I got the seeds for the lemon trees in my yard.

kyragibson: Waipi'o Valley, my second home, where my hanai family lives! Such a wonderful and powerful place!
