Bald eagle heading down quickly on this spotted stunned fish there (after it came through the dam's turbine) ... easy pickings in this case.

There are only a few hours left for this year's Vintage Fair.

So, I thought I would leave you all with a look that is totally in my comfort zone. A 1930s Hollywood glam inspired evening attire. If you have been rocking with me for a while, you know that I will blog this look any time of the year. It is something about an elegant evening gown and jewelry that brings joy to my heart.

Find your joy at The Vintage Fair 2026 before time runs out.

Portland is home to a large population of Japanese Maples. Being from the Midwest originally, I hadn't seen or maybe even heard of them before I moved out as they can't survive the brutal winters.

Grow zones or "hardiness" zones refer to different portions of the US and how they vary in terms of winter temperatures in sections of 10F. There are 11 total zones in the US. Western Oregon (mostly west of the Cascades, and east of the coast range) falls in zone 8 or 9. This is a sweet spot in terms of plant life. Many plants thrive and almost all can survive.

This isn't the most famous Japanese Maple in Portland, but it is my favorite. Found on the OHSU campus tucked away in plain sight, it is somewhat unassuming, but get up close and it's spectacular. Not sure if anyone else has laid on the ground and enjoyed the twisting branches and colorful leaves this time of year....but they should.

41/365 … a quick trip into Sainsbury’s on the way back from the gym for, as it turned out, not quite enough top up bits of shopping … ah ha … maybe it’s because I stopped to take this shot of the ‘Zone B’ (can you tell??) avenue of lights … just getting to the point that they’re not needed ?? :-) xx

"Risk of Death" would bring less confusion.

The Zoned Rosette is listed as a priority species in England. This is because it is generally rare across Europe but has a stronghold in the UK.

The large pinkish-brown, rosette-like reproductive structure of this fungus is typically seen near the base of old, ancient and veteran beech or oak trees. This habitat has declined in Britain, so the fungus requires surveillance and careful management to ensure its long-term survival.
