Curves and Zigzags is the third work from an ongoing series of free-standing walls that straddle painting and sculpture. Comte’s practice embraces all media with equal ferocity and she uses this series to examine what happens when two-dimensional painting is superimposed on three dimensional structure. Unlike graffiti artists her walls are built specifically for the work they carry. In Curves and Zigzags, the painting starts with a stringent geometric composition that gradually morphs into a more organic wave like pattern reminiscent of Bridget Riley optical paintings or the gardens of Burle Marx. Playing on the constant exchange of dualities – nature and culture, order and chaos, geometric and organic form – Comte’s wall suggests a walk through the shifting sands of abstraction and on to a place where beauty and contemplation sit side by side.
This pattern is from the book Handknit Holidays by Melanie Falick. I substituted the yarn specified in the pattern with Hayfield Bonus Aran Tweed in the colourways: Fisher, Berry, Honeycomb, Galway and Beach. It's a bit crazy on the pastel side but it will be super cozy in winter!

here is out kitty, ZigZag, so named because her tail is only about half the regular length and take a 90 degree turn about 1 inch from her rump and stay all bent like that, consistenly sticking out from one side of her body like an angle bracket. Most of the time, though, we call her Ziggie or HeyYouStopThat!

I like the zigzag effect in this shot, showing an Alaskan glacier flowing down its valley to the sea.
I never thought shooting something that slow moving would be so tough – however, if you try and get everything in, they end up looking small, somehow. Also, the weather was against me. While I like the moodiness of the low cloud, it makes it a challenge to zoom in on particular detail.
The picture was taken at Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska.

A zigzag is a pattern made up of small corners at variable angles, though constant within the zigzag, tracing a path between two parallel lines; it can be described as both jagged and fairly regular.

The only way to do pigtails so there isn't gaping on some part of the head is to zigzag the hair so it covers everything
The 28mm lens gets so close with extension tubes it's actually hard to avoid blocking the light with it. This with only the 1 and 3 tubes on. Had to take the 2 tube out as it was all just too close. Makes a handly loupe for inspecting halftone screen patterns and paper fibres.
