The cloister is the only remaining part of the Benedictine monastery belonging to the complex of buildings of the cathedral. Its dimensions are 47 x 47 m. The most current hypothesis postulates that he would have taken his primitive architectural lines around the death of William the Good and would have been completed in the first decades of the thirteenth century.

Each of the four sides of the cloister is decorated with 26 Norman arcades supported by small columns grouped by two - by four, even at the corners of the cloister. In all, there are 228. Some are simply smooth, others have helical or zigzag grooves while others are decorated with mosaics inlaid in the Italian Romanesque style, as in the Romanesque cloister of the Lateran basilica to Rome (cosmatesque style) or the facade of the dome of Lucca. At the south-west corner of the cloister rests the colonnade of an edicule - called the "small cloister" - in the center of which stands another pillar with zigzag grooves terminated by a sphere, from which springs the water that runs down the column and falls back into a basin. This is the "Fountain of the King" wanted by William II.

(Allegories of the months on the ball of the column): January, an old man warming himself near the fire; February, the cut tree; Mars, the horn player; April, picking flowers; May the horse grazing; June, the supply of fruits; July, the mowing of wheat; August, preparation of the barrel; September, crushing grapes; October, sowing; November, collection of acorns; December, the slaughter of the pig.

Zigzag - A Summer's evening at St Monans and a long exposure of 'The blocks', the iconic zig zag breakwater reaching out from the harbour wall.

The 14 minute exposure turns the Firth of Forth into a silky smooth greyness in concert with the motion of the moody clouds. The uniformity of the sea and sky pierced by The Blocks jutting out in its chaotic fashion into the Firth of Forth.

For the Macro Mondays Theme: Just White Paper - HMM - MM

This theme was quite a challenge, because I'm not very creative with paper. Origami is way to difficult (for me). Quilling or cutting paper figures are not my strongest skills as well. So I just kept it simple with something I've learned a long time ago on elementary school...

Thanks for watching!

Despite there were at least half a million of visitors in the park that day, Zigzag managed not to get kick in the busiest traffic area.

From last summer's trip, here is a zig zagging comp there pre-sunrise along the Atlantic Ocean in Acadia National Park.

Going through some more Ecuador photos… Not the best shot, but a very cool, tiny heron.

I actually had some less obscured photos of this too, but my memory card decided to write over the rest with photos from the same evening. I'm just glad at least one was okay!

I know this scene has been photographed to death but I took this shot not expecting to and took this hand held. Its a beautiful place.

Part of the Slate River falls, walking up from some of the lower falls.

Continuing my play with a telephoto lens to extract intimate scenes from the larger landscape, I became fascinated by the zig zag pattern the water made as it traveled on it journey down a mountain stream. This was shot at 70 mm

Enjoy!
