Not so long ago many of India's fantastic stepwells were neglected and in decay, some filled in with earth or rubbish.

In Osian (or Osiyan), an ancient city formed around an oasis in the Thar desert in Rajasthan, not far from Jodhpur. It was an important stop for camel caravans around the 5th century CE and much later became a major center of Jainism for hundreds of years. In 1195 CE the city was mostly destroyed and deserted thereafter.

Near where I live. Must have been a stately home when it was inhabited. It is still beautiful in its decaying and abandoned state, though. May have been even bettrer in b/w, but I could not really make up my mind- hence I left it in color.
