YoKai Watch "Happierre" Figure & Medal (Hasbro)

An invisible Yokai (except for when he’s represented like this), Nurikabe is a wall. It impedes travellers, making it impossible to move forward. The only way out is to knock on the lower-left portion of Nurikbe, and then he will let you go. As an aside, Shigeru Mizuki swore that he encountered this Yokai once while deployed in World War II he found a patch of jungle that he couldn’t walk through, even though there was no underbrush or foliage int he way. Interesting, that.

Edited National Diet Library of Japan ukiyo-e print of a samurai riding a horse in a torrential downpour. (I'm not sure where the yokai comes in but it was in the same series...)

From a series of prints (all dealing with yokai one way or another) called: 和漢百物語, or Wakan Hyaku Monogatari.

Kappa Doll - New at Moon's Creations today.

I'm hoping people will like him enough that I can make more. I had a lot of fun making the flower "plate" on his head and want to make a variety of colors.

Baku Bandanas are up for pre-order! These will ship in mid to late MAY.

missmonster.myshopify.com/

These are printed with a technique that allows the design to be the same texture as the fabric. The design is IN the fabric, not laying on top of it like with paint, creating a softer feel... it will also not wash out!

Each bandanna is 22" x 22", a crisp white HUGE print on black. Size may vary slightly due to washing and drying before mailing the piece.

This is printed with original artwork of a Baku, a creature from Japanese mythology that eats dreams. They were most likely based on first descriptions of a real animal called a tapir. Cover half your face and presto... trunk and tusks!

Nuribotoke: character drawing for an animation. This was just a real quick drawing for work. His right foot/ankle/calf is dreadful. Nuribotoke is a dancing corpse with oozing black skin, eyes dangling out of their sockets, and a bloated belly. Such a bizarre character. Not sure what the "oozing" bit is all about. Haven't really seen that represented in any other depictions.

Yoshimura: Yokai Researcher is about a guy who wants to make an encyclopedia of yokai, scary Japanese monsters, who are more cute and funny than they are scary in this book. Each strip features a different yokai or yokai attribute and in this books are accompanied by a kind of serious, kind of funny fact.

This is all according to the teacher who sits next to me at work. Thanks Takagi-sensei!

Edited National Diet Library chart of the twelve types of kappa (河童) (mythological water sprite/beast/monster/fairy/yokai) in Japan. The thing to remember if you ever get waylaid by a kappa is their fondness for cucumbers. Simply offer the accosting kappa a cucumber and you'll be on your way without further difficulty. Color/processing variant.

Suzu is a round and hollow Japanese Shinto Bell that contains pellets that sound when agitated.

Tengu (heavenly dogs) are a class of supernatural creatures found in Japanese folklore, art, theater, and literature. They are one of the best known yōkai (monster-spirits) and are sometimes worshipped as Shinto kami (revered spirits or gods). Although they take their name from a dog-like Chinese demon (Tiangou), the tengu were originally thought to take the forms of birds of prey, and they are traditionally depicted with both human and avian characteristics.
