Replacing an earlier scanned photo with a better version 28-Jan-22 (DeNoise AI).
This aircraft was delivered to Australian Airlines as VH-TAY in Jun-87. Australian Airlines was merged into QANTAS Airways in Oct-93.
It continued in service until it was leased to Jet Connect (New Zealand) as ZK-JNA in Nov-03. It was returned to QANTAS in Jun-06 as VH-XMR and stored at Avolon.
The aircraft was converted to freighter configuration with a main deck cargo door at Avolon in Jan-07 and leased to Australian Air Express, operating on behalf of QANTAS Freight.
It was repainted in full QANTAS livery with 'QANTAS Freight' titles in Oct-14. The QANTAS Freight titles were replaced by 'Australia Post' titles in Jul-20. It's now 35 years old! Current, updated 28-Jan-22.

A Bristol MW of the Hants & Dorset fleet, seen in Blue Boar Way, Salisbury, on Friday 23rd January 1976. Some years later I was to find myself driving around here on a regular basis on the white-knuckle X4 Bristol - Salisbury limited stop service. The last 20 miles from Warminster were along the unimproved A36, through as yet un-bypassed villages such as Heytesbury and Codford St Mary. Every third vehicle was an articulated lorry from Southampton Docks. Military traffic was another great hazard of the route. I remember being once compelled to follow a learner tank driver for several miles. Timings were desperately tight. The vehicle was usually a Leyland Leopard or Tiger coach.
On one journey my front nearside passenger was an American. He had started off sitting next to the window, but the hedges swishing along the side of the vehicle seemed to make him uneasy and he shifted over to the gangway. At Steeple Langford, a village whose main street narrowed to a kind of Bosphorus between projecting flint and clunch cottages, I heard little gasps escaping from between his teeth. Finally, as I aimed the coach between an oncoming lorry and a thatched structure whose overhanging upper floor showed the marks of many previous vehicular percussions, he leaned forward.
"How the hell d'ya manage to miss all these goddam trucks?"
"Oh", I insouciantly replied over my shoulder, "I just keep as close as I can to the kerb and shut my eyes".
Shortly afterwards he moved to another seat at the back of the bus.
After the de-regulation of the industry in October 1986 relations between Hants & Dorset and the new Badgerline company became strained. Badgerline began operating a minibus service in Salisbury, employing, I remember, a very glamorous woman driver. This didn't go down well and I was aware of a certain froideur when I entered the staff canteen at Salisbury Bus Station. One or two sub-hostile remarks were addressed to me. But they needn't have worried. Badgerline pulled out after a year or so. The X4 service too, was relatively short-lived. It had originated as a kind of revamp of the conventional Bath - Salisbury service. After my time I think it was again curtailed at Bath, but remaining limited stop.

Quite a clean engine bay too, and it's been parked on the road for a week now, and left no more than a drip or two, which is promising. Oil levels fine, coolant fine etc etc, this does seem to have been pretty well maintained mechanically by the look of it, or its just sheer luck….
108k worn pretty well, it went through a lot of use to begin with and then next to no use for a few years. My other ZX had a similar story, which seems to do cars favours.
Quite a rough wheel bearing on the front right though, which is beginning to get annoying.
I was told not to expect anything that fast with a non turbocharged XUD but by jove, if you get the revs/gears right, these things absolutely fly. Plenty of go and its a lot more comfortable at higher speeds than the TU in my other one.
