I may also replace the non brand tyres as they judder a bit at certain speeds.

Interestingly, insurance is exactly the same as the 1.4, despite the extra 500cc. It is less powerful however, but pulls better.

I also got a chance to drive the Sunny, and a world apart from the ZXs I have. Solid feeling in a dependable sort of way, although quite a dainty interior with some very 80s nostalgia everywhere.

Thankfully, this new ZX performed as expected.

First time I've seen one of these in the flesh, and yes they do look just as goofy in-person as they do in photos as it turns out. They also had a red one with pre-2001 plates but sadly bins were in the way of that one. This one goes well with the garage door!

 

Current owner for 21 years. Not much prestige to be found here I'd say!

The 55 was developed to be a more powerful version of the 1966 DAF 44. Avaiable as a Saloon, Coupe and Station Wagon with front disc brakes and all indepandant suspension. Powered by a Renault 1108cc R8 engine ,Uprated from 1972 to the 63bhp Marathon specification. Transmission was by way of variable stepless V-belt drive.

 

The saloon was launched at the end of 1967 the Coupe three months later and the Estate from September 1968. In August 1969 there was a minor facelift of the whole model range and a delivery version became available, essentially a 55 estate without a rear seat. After the success of the DAF 55 in the London-Sydney Marathon, the 1971 dealer option 'Marathon' package in both Saloon and Coupe form was introduced with its engine upgraded to 63bhp and a top speed of 145kmph (91 mph).

I have to say, its annoyingly bright, all the plastic and paint has held its colour amazingly well, but I think the later prefacelift cars were just overall slightly better finished, everything just feels a touch more solid.

 

The cream coach appears to be 714, XMR 947, a Bristol MW6G new in 1961. On the right, the semi-coach is 721, 133 AMW, a dual-purpose Bristol MW6G, new in 1963.

This is the first time I have used a Panasonic compact, I had a real issue with a CSC I had by them a few years back, but I do not gel well with interchangeable lenses I decided.

 

The green ZX is doing well. A creaky steering rack seems to the be the worst issue it currently suffers from. Still nice to drive, still eats up the miles without complaint. A keeper, but the next MOT still worries me.

Interestingly, I seem to have picked the best time to buy a diesel ZX as some of the recent eBay sales prices for diesels have been madness. I saw an estate go for £1500 the other day.
