Hrotsvit - ROSWITHA von Gandersheim, 935 - >973

We don't know when or where Hrotsvit was born; the fact that she was accepted at the royal abbey of Gandersheim in eastern Saxony means that she was of a noble family. In 947, as part of his consolidation of power, King Otto I (r. 936-973) gave the abbess of Gandersheim autonomous power, freeing the abbey of the control of prelates and secular lords (although not from the control of provosts appointed by the king); the abbess was the equivalent of a baron, with most of the rights and duties involved. In the 950s, Otto's niece was installed as Abbess Gerberga II, and it was under her that Hrotsvit served.
Because of her knowledge of worldly affairs, some have conjectured that Hrotsvit lived at Otto's court as a young woman, but she need not have done so. She has writen 3 books with Legends / Plays / Epics - by that time all in Latin.

I was exploring my archives for images to include in a family photo book for my mother at Christmas and came across some IR images I was taking back in 2004 on my old Olympus. IR is great fun since you are actually photographing warmth. I have an old 20d with "IR modification" writen all over it for next year. Now back to the book.

Along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman under a bridge I found this little setup of a street office owned by a legal writer who has been working there for over more than 40 years. Customers who come seek his service to prepare legal letters or whatever sort of formal appeal letters to governmental departments. Mostly writen in the Malay language.
I had sometime chatting with him for awhile. When I first spotted his presence under tha shady bridge I was a bit surprised. I greeted him, he was clearing for stuff in hs old fashioned briefcase, and he was not really responding to me, and I thought he was blind!! LOL!! But after a few rounds of greetings, he finally answered. He was very friendly, indeed.
By the way, his company is called Ramlee Salleh Enterprise.
A piece of my Radio Days. This is a copy of a copyright page which was given to the GEMA later. The hours between 8 pm and 11 pm were called Ultra Kurzweil > UKW. This is the hour between 10.00 pm and 11.00 pm. 14 titles with a few informations for the host of the radio show in this case Bodo Henkel. Writen and compiled by Affendaddy/Klaus Hiltscher.

when I painted this on a piece of discarded cardboard, in the autumn of 2000, I was copying a dream image, which is all I painted in those days, receiving a dream "fax order" almost every day for a new painting, which I copied down in my notebook, like paint by numbers, "light blue" here, "dark red" there, and I painted them often on cardbaord, from flat panels that I had cut from pieces of cardboard box found in someone else's trash, on the street, I carried a large "tool" in my backpack, but probably wouldn't want to carry it there now, political perecptions have changed, with which I would dismember boxes and carry home my prize "canvases" thinking that "Picasso and Miro painted on cardboard, and so will I," though when the gallery owners came to my home atelier, they said, "Why do you paint on cardboard? Why don't you use canvas? Nobody would hang this trash on their walls!"
I thought I was being avant garde and recyclist in an acceptible way, I have always been a bit freegan in my impulses, ... Despite their disdain, one such image was featured in a gallery show, ha! just wait, one day, people will pay big bucks for paintings done on discarded cardboard, and you can say, "Greentea Flute was doing this back at the turn of the century, he was!"
... once painted, this reminded me of the novel "ringworld" by Larry Niven, which I recently saw on someone's list of the 100 most important books ever writen in the sci-fi vein ... in "ringworld," earthlings space-travel to a giant space-station, while there, one of the crew, a woman, falls in love with an alien and decides to stay on the ringworld. Her disappointed colleagues say something like, "Well, we chose her for the mission because she was very lucky, but we didn't realize that her luck might not coincide with our own;"

We're currently finishing production on «Zombies 4 Kids: A Survival Guide for Children facing the Undead"», an animated musical short film directed by Pedro Santasmarinas and writen by José Pedro Lopes. Here's the first still of this project, that will explain children how to survive a zombie encounter - through a song!

These photos were in a letter writen from the Douglas, Arizona military camp, dated August 28, 1917. The writer was Hayes Wills, who was with the 10th Field Artillery. This unit trained at Douglas, going overseas in early 1918. This unit was a component of the 3rd Division, which saw action from early 1918 to the end of the War.
These four pictures are a depictionof my feelings in reference to the SPACA Demolition.

In the left side of the bench it´s writen "Love Portugal". I found this particular bench behind the Medicine University in Coimbra's City, Portugal.
Thinking about the current situation (politics, economics... ) it made me wonder "You really gotta love it"... in order to saty and suffer some more... lololol...

There are many places in this world which are magical and sacred, the South Dakota Big Badlands is a preeminent place that embodies this mystic nature. Here a man can converse with the gods themselves, here strange energies flow through your very soul and energize it, vitalize it. In the words of Frank Lloyd Wright, "I was totally unprepared for the revelation called the Dakota Bad Lands...What I saw gave me an indescribable sense of mysterious elsewhere - a distant architecture, ethereal..., an endless supernatural world more spiritual than earth but created out of it."

The Badlands act as one of the greatest laboratories in the world. A paleontologists playground; this area has nearly the highest concentration of fossils in the world. Traveling up through the strata reveals evidence for evolution. The ancestors of modern mammals have their stories preserved in the rock layers of South Dakotas Big Badlands. You can see with your own eyes the early changes in mammals as they adapt from subtropical to steppe like conditions. The ones that didn't adapt died off; thoughs that survived became the ancestors of todays modern mammals. Cats, dogs, bears, pigs, horses, camels, deer; their evolution is plainly writen in the rock layers of South Dakotas Big Badlands.

I have heard nothing recently about SPACA. It seems that since the No Trespassing Signs were posted this has dropped of the radar of Alberta photographers. I think that that in itself is an injustice since they were the ones that raised such awareness about in the beginning. I do however understand why it had to be done. It is so sad that in this society a few bad apples destroy so much that is beautiful for present and future generations.
