Shots from Sirmione in Lombardy, Italy, during our Lake Garda tour. Once I'd taken shots in Sirmione I was too tired to take any more, once I got back on the coach (we did pass through Peschiera del Garda and by Gardaland but didn't take any more shots).
We had a rest in a park in Sirmione. Here is a Spa called Terme Catullo in Terme di Sirmione with an Aquaria.
I've seen better looking tourist trains on Lake Garda than this, but this was the one I saw in Sirmione. Was outside the park. Has Il Trenino writen on it.
For more than a century the glimpse of the red, Victorian pitched roof and white wrap around verandas, visible for a mere second through the cluster of trees, have captured the imaginaton of everyone that travelled past. The stately homestead, observed even from a distance, is a testmony of a remarkable tale of a family of pioneers that setled and shaped our place as we live here today.
The history of the Erasmus family meanders through the documented milestones of early South Africa and its frst struggle to tame the land. It begun around 1688 in the Cape with a young adventurer named Pieter Erasmus, aged 19, that arrived in the Cape from Roterdam and setled on a farm “Groenkloof” in Drakenstein. In 1691 he married Maria Elisabeth Joosten and they had six children. Five generatons later did his descendant, Daniel Jacobus Erasmus, later fondly referred to as “Oupa Swartkoppies” respond to the inital call of independence and partcipated in the Great Trek and fnally staked a claim on the land that is present-day Centurion. He setled on a farm and called it Zwartkop.
Rasmus Elardus Erasmus, aka Dubbele, was a young lad of eleven years old during the pioneering wanderlust of his older brother and parents during the Great Trek. Once he came of age he setled on Brakfontein and married Louisa Catharina Erasmus. They had ten healthy children.
In the frst years on Brakfontein, Rasmus build a small Voortrekker house for Louisa in 1856. This original unassuming structure is a natonal monument today along with the remains of his hand packed wafer style-rock shelter that Rasmus constructed to protect his prized catle stud. This kraal could keep more than a thousand heads of catle and has withstood the ravages of tme. Legend has it that Dubbele fought with a leopard within this very rock shelter, between his mauling catle, one night. He was seriously wounded when the leopard scalped him before his brother managed to kill the predator on top of him. Louisa made a compress of medicinal herbs mixed with mud and catle dung to glue the loose skin of his scalp back in place.
In later years Dubblele started to reap the benefts from his metculous stud farming and henceforth all 10 children were educated by a private tutor from Holland. Rasmus started the foundatons of a more fashionable house and in1895 this grand Victorian homestead was fnally completed by his son, Lourens Jacobus Abram Erasmus.
This architectural jewel was saved during the 2nd Boer War from being burned to the ground since Dubbele passed away in 1891 and the Britsh army lef the widow Louisa in peace. They burned all family homesteads during Lord Kitchener’s controversial Scorched Earth Campaign of the 2nd Boer War and lef Brakfontein that day to burn Rooihuiskraal instead.
In 1905 Lourens Jacobus Abram Erasmus, a young widower, brought his second wife, Aleta Adriana Malan, to Brakfontein to live in his late father’s house. Hannie Malan ordered Lete’s wedding trousseau
especially from Paris so that her daughter will “look the part” at her new home on Brakfontein. Louw took pleasure in importng most furniture pieces such as the chandeliers and piece de resistance from England. With great pains these Victorian pieces were hauled over mountains and rough terrain by ox wagons from the coast. One of the original chandeliers can stll be seen hanging in the dining room of the historical home, a bustling restaurant named Ga Rouge, today.
In 1988, with the 150 year memorial of the Great Trek, Sarel & Vicky agreed that the visual splendour of their century old, stately home became the set for the romantc war drama named the Mannheim Saga that was writen and narrated by Lerina Erasmus about the early gold rush in Johannesburg.
With modern tmes the pressure on commercial farming and forever shrinking catle pastures due to metropolitan expansion forced the Baard family to sell the ancestral home to Topbou Developers. Shortly afer the turn of the Century, Candlewoods Residental Estate was successfully launched in the market.
Today the red pitched farm house stll plays a major part in giving us a sense of belonging to the land and the people that dwelled here before us. Seven generatons of the Erasmus clan are stll living on Brakfontein today and the house forms a central part of Candlewoods Residental Estate. Because afer all, home is where the heart is.

This now abandoned ghostly looking railway station in Mangotsfield, Bristol U.K. Famous for inspiring the play & quot; "The Ghost Train" & quot writen by Arnold Ridley {Of Dad's Army fame}. Also the train track to lead from Bath to Bristol. The line opened in 1869, stem eneines used to carry cargo and people in and around Bristol and then to Bath. In the 1960's a man by the name of Richard Beeching was asked by the goverment to look at the state of the railway lines to make sure all the raillway lines were inline to the changing times and to reduce costs the goverment was spending. The report from Beeching recommed that it should be shut down as it was small and non profitable {after the Midland, Mangotsfield and Bath branches were closed down. Due to the Great Western railway line being a few miles away which connected to Bristol and Bath}. The railway stations were closed and most of the stations buildings were converted into houses. Abandoned lines became derelict and the local council or groups of volunters brought the land and converted it into parks, bridleways and cycle track.

encore une fois pardon !!!
as for english coudn t be easy to laught about it ....in french pardon the text writen on the bag on the flet of the woman mean sorry...its like if she know that some people will be shocked by her nudity and not to speak anymore she put this bag here !
There seems to be only two stories writen in English about Thailand—looiking for love in the sex trade and down on your luck and landing in jail, the infamous Bangkok Hilton. This infuriates me, but it should give me solace for my book will be a respite from these sorry themes. A few books do break the mold including an anthology by the Bangkok Women's Writers group which I was able to visit since they were having a meeting this week. I've met with them before and they are excited about my book. Their book "Bangkok Blonds" is doing quite well and won an award for the region of South East Asia. After taking this picture and another I was told by a store official that photos were not allowed. Hmmm.
A survivor walks down a destroyed road. Another man sits by the curb, asleep. His fire is dimming as the light of the morning sweeps over this god-forsaken place.
This year Charlotte played Santa and handed out the gifts. As long as the gift tags weren't writen in cursive--a second grade skill--she could read them.
How I Spent My Saturday. At least it was raining. I'd have been grumpy if it was as beautiful outside as it was Easter weekend. Got both my federal and state taxes done, check writen and ready to go to the mail. Federal's a breeze compared to the crappy design of Massachusetts forms.
"THE BLIND MAN'S CLOCK"
BY STEFAN KRIKL, ORIGINALLY WRITEN IN SPANISH,
UPON WAKING, TRYING TO MAKE OUT THE TIME ON MY CLOCK
IS IT DAY TIME ALREADY OR IS IT NIGHT?
ALL I CAN SEE ARE THE EDGES
GIVING OUT A STRANGE GLOW OF LIGHT
ASKING POLITELY
SO, TELL ME, WHAT IS IT?
DAY OR NIGHT?
THE TICKING GOES SILENT
A DEEP FAMILIAR VOICE ANSWERS IN IT'S STEAD:
NOT TO FRET, DO NOT WORRY,
AM-PM, WHAT DOES IT MATTER
BE REST ASSURED I WILL COME FOR YOU
WHEN YOUR TIME IS UP

This round tower is cosied up to an 18th century cruciform shaped church ruin, though some 16th C mullioned windows are found within. First writen mention of the tower has the cap in ruins. The current fair attempt at restoration was carried out in 1880 by the OPW. It has a rounded top though, instead of a decidedly pointy traditional cap. This, its wide drum, and less than average height, makes this round tower look rather squat.

This is one of the nation's greatest Art Deco state capitols. Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue designed this capitol; it was built from the year 1922 to 1932.
The names of all 93 counties in the state are writen along the outer walls around all four sides. Another fact worth mention is that this structure is the nation's only unicameral state legislature building. That means that the Nebraska legislature has only one house, the other 49 states have bicameral, or two house, systems with a senate and a house of representatives modeled after the federal legislature. It was not always like this; the unicameral system here in Nebraska dates back to the Dust Bowl of the 1930s when it was believed that having only one house would make it easier to pass much needed relief bills for struggling farmers.
Home at last with this ticket.
Thanks again to Bedford Station Staff, East Midlands Trains and L.N.E.R.
On reflection,
she saw manipulated hues
tattoos against her skin.
Pale yellow dues,
the purple of her sin,
mingled in a miniature of pain,
and odium.
If she could rupture this piercing
pattern of perversity,
if she could fracture his jaundiced
judgement and his jealousy,
then next week wouldn’t look so black
and blue.

Yay halloween! I have just carved this. I'm writing a zine called 'go APE' and this fella is the logo. It would have been a cool way to launch the zine, If I had writen it. Or done anything to make it exist outside me head,
I couldnt wait for it to get properly dark so I put it in the only room with no windows- the bathroom... or as I like to call it, the mouldhole. will update when it gets dark.
I have been after one of these Weston Ranger 9s for a while, 18 degree spot meter ,cds running on 2 x1.5v alkiline batteries which it was not designed for but the thing reads the same setting as my Canon 1D and 1Ds at all light levels so it maybe it has been adjusted as there are signs that the back has been removed at some stage. It can read very low levels of light.
Big for a light meter and quite heavy but a joy to use and easy to read. This one a keeper for sure.
The blue internal felt is my doing as the light tan colour was marked and had a previous owner name writen on , a blue felt tip marker did the job nicely.

This map was a diagram in an article entitled "The Last Years of the LNER-1" by Michael Bonavia which was published in the August 1975 issue of Railway World.
It was captioned "Development plans for the GC London main line" set out in the post-war LNER publication Forward authored by Michael Bonavia who was Post-War Development Liaison Officer for the company. It covers proposed upgrades to the Great Central main line between Marylebone to Nottingham and onward to Derby by the ex-GNR line.
There were no more details about the proposed "£15,000 redesign of and general improvements to Loughborough station". Perhaps the classic GCR station now preserved would have been changed out of recognition!
Sadly none of it was ever carried out by the LNER before nationalisation in 1948 and BR not only failed to develop the GCR line but systematically ran it down until closure as a through route in 1966.
An interesting snippet in this article (writen 20 years before privatisation of BR) was mention of Bonavia's proposal in the dying days of the LNER to sell off their track, signalling and structures to the State. The company would then be granted a franchise to operate with their own locos, rolling stock, etc. Effectively what happened in 1997.

Three of my images are published in the book writen by Dr Meredith Jones, about hair.
here is two, the last one is on another post...
This book is a story of our time : a series of snapshots of how people are thinking about hair in the early twenty-first century. Like shining a light into a trunk full of precious things, it offers a glimpse that can only be of a moment -what Walter Benjamin called 'flash'- not comprehensive or whole but rather a brief illumination. We hope you will keep these stories and images with you and add them to your own intimate, magical and profound experiences with hair (Meredith Jones)

i have a story about this. i wish i could say it’s just another tattoo. i have eight by now, i guess two or three have no meaning at all, but most of them have some kind of story to tell. A little heart on my neck, i got it when i was 15, too young, too fool, but kind of cute. the stars that i really despise today. quod nutrit me destruit writen on my back, hate to explain to people what it means, but its pretty much my worse clichê. the treble clef, it’s not my favorite one, but, i think it was a time when music pretty much saved me, somehow. the choose life from trainspotting, it takes some time to people remember where those words are from, but it’s okay, because it’s more than trainspotting to me, i got that tattoo two days before leaving a part of my life behind, so its pretty meaningful to me. the two hearts on my wrist, i got it to erase the word “apathy”, and it was drawn by someone i loved, that’s enough to explain it. And the one on this picture. The house with balloons, from Up, sure. It’s a lovely film from pixar, about love, kids and dogs, so its enough to win my heart. But as i explained before, i have a persuit for a home. I moved from house to house, neighbourhood and cities too many times, and as a grown woman today, i wish to find a home more than everything, i’m not talking about buying a house, getting rid of rent, none of that shit… it’s that home feeling that i still haven’t found. and a house flying with balloons is how i can explain that kind of feeling. so, its not just the Up tattoo. its my favorite one! And it will be beautiful when the coloring part start.
Wanna go for a ride? Nah. Not today. Tomorrow? Maybe. I'll be here. It's amazing the "dance" that goes on between beach vendors and lazy-ass tourists.
