In the three-and-a-half years I've owned it, my first generation iPod Touch has travelled all over the world. After three continents and two toddlers, it's certainly showing its age.
For this week's Strobist Sundays theme, "time", I wanted to try to replicate the style of the product shots that populate Apple's web site. These shots invariably show a diffuse highlight reflected in a portion of the iDevice's face. I suspect that this is done to convey the high gloss screen.
I used two lights to capture this effect. The iPod was positioned on white foam core with white reflectors to the left and the right. The key light was an SB-600 in a 24 inch softbox. Because it was positioned directly above the iPod while the camera was positioned off to the side, none of the key's direct reflections off the screen were seen by the camera. To produce a direct reflection in the iPod's screen, I fired an LP120 into a white wall behind the foamcore at a point inside the family of angles viewable by the camera. Finally, I positioned a black card between the iPod and the LP120 so that the LP120 was only reflected in the upper right portion of the screen.

This is a photo of the Jens Olsen World Clock at Copenhagen City Hall. It is the world's most precise mechanical clock and second only to Atomic Clocks for accuracy. It also has the slowest turning gear in the world.

This world clock stands at the Alexanderplatz in Berlin.
The Urania-Weltzeituhr (world clock) by Erich John.The world clock displays the time differences with a number of foreign cities. In 1997, during the restoration of the world clock, we added a number of cities that were omitted for the sake of political reasons at the time, namely Jerusalem, St. Petersburg and Cape Town. On top of the clock is a simplified version of the solar - system.

De wereldklok geeft de tijdsverschillen aan met een aantal buitenlandse steden. {Facebook post] It seemed like a farewell visit to the World Clock (Weltzeituhr) in Alexanderplatz would be a fitting end to my two-week stay in Berlin. The clock, built in 1969, has long been a landmark and meeting point for East Berlin. Now it serves similar purposes for the united city.
