Chiang Mai Thailand, In an area called "Kamtieng" each morning several hundred day laborers mostly Burmese but also from local Thai minority groups gather in the hope of getting a days work, here a fight breaks out between two workers for the job.

Worker honey bee are fated to a life of hard labor. Their wings are tattered from constant trips between flower nectar sources and the hive. Each worker honey bee (shown here) will make about 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in her 1-2 month adult lifespan. They travel up to 2 miles to a nectar source, and must visit over 2 million flowers to make only one pound of honey. Many of the foods we eat come from plants that rely on honey bees for pollination. Throughout the Northern Hemisphere honey bee populations have suffered from the mysterious colony collapse disorder (CCD), where bees disappear from their hives. Scientists now think a new generation of systemic pesticides increasingly in use is at least partly to blame for CCD.

Shenzhen is a city of migrant workers. Out of 10 million people, some 6 million are non-permanent. Many live in small huts like these in the shadow of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

Every Chinese New Years holiday, called Chunyun (春運) some 2.9 billion migrant workers return from the coasts to inner regions to celebrate with family. This is said to be the largest annual human migration in history.

War on Want joined UK and US fast food workers at McDonald’s in Whitehall, London, on Wednesday 13 January, as part of a global campaign for fast food workers’ rights. The demonstration was followed by a fast food forum at parliament, hosted by Fast Food Rights. UK and US fast food workers were joined by Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell MP, who founded the Fast Food Rights campaign alongside the Bakers and Allied Food Workers Union (BFAWU) in 2014, and other leading figures from the trade union and anti-austerity movement.

War on Want has long fought for the rights of workers. We stand proudly beside fast food workers in the UK, and the US Fight For $15 movement, in the global struggle for a living wage, better working conditions and union rights.

Singers / musicians, taken at a recording of Workers' Playtime in 1959. Someone has suggested that the man on the far left is Steve Race, a pianist.

Gibson would have been commissioned by the company where the recording was staged, called Willerleys, but I haven't been able to find any trace of them.
