Workers with a serious illness or injury can now take as many as 27 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave within a 12-month period to undergo medical treatment and focus on their recovery.

Amendments to B.C.’s Employment Standards Act have come into effect and provide improved job protections for workers who are covered by the act and who are unable to work for at least one week (seven consecutive days) due to a serious illness or injury.

News on BBC, 14th of May 2010: "Tens of millions of dollars have been diverted in India from schemes to fight poverty and used to fund Delhi's Commonwealth Games, a report says. The report also says spending on the Games has spiralled out of control: expenditure on sports infrastructure alone is more than 2,000% of the initial projected budget. In addition, more than 100,000 poor families have already been evicted due to projects connected with the Games, and up to 40,000 families are likely to be displaced before the Games begin in October, the document says.

There have been dozens of deadly accidents on the various sites.
