it's a cake! (it's a lie! haha)

I see this view way too much.

some of what i shot this week.

Promotional pictures taken of the West Riding's original hotel rooms before refurbishment. Celebrating heritage and vintage details this was probably one of the most visually pleasing locations I've been asked to shoot, even if it is strongly rumoured to be haunted.

There has been a handtruck in our storage area at work for quite a long time sitting there with a really great shadow from the lighting in there. Every time I go in there I see it and I mentioned to Kay the other day that I was being tormented by an image I wanted to photograph and had tried and tried and all found their way to the delete key. I tried again today and although this still isn't what I wanted I do like it and will have to settle for this.

Installation triptych Accept & Work by Merijn van Moll and Ruben van de Ven during the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. The triptych deals with the so-called Click Work, in which people carry out simple assignments at home for little money to train artificial intelligence (AI). This happens on platforms such as Amazon Mechanical Turk.

Emily Floyd

Painted aluminium sculpture, 2004

Waterview Walk, Docklands (Melway ref. 2E, H6)

Melbourne artist Emily Floyd’s Signature Work is a playful addition to the public art collection at Docklands. Resembling an abstracted toy rabbit, it is intended to amuse and confound passers-by. Standing nearly four metres high and coated in black Polyurethane paint, the aluminium-plate sculpture is also reminiscent of futuristic creations such as Darth Vader, or the menacing rabbit figure in the film Donny Darko. Planted in the urban landscape of Docklands, the presence of this giant rabbit is both cute and unsettling as it looms over the viewer.

GMC worked with the Birmingham Zoo to master plan and design the new arrival experience and Asian Passage exhibits at this 4-star rated and AZA accredited zoo. GMC had previously worked at the zoo to expand and enhance their parking area with a natural visitor experience that preserved 70% of the existing trees and created an entrance path underneath a shaded tree canopy where visitors would begin their zoo excursions.

Now GMC has been asked to create an all new visitor entry to replace the existing 59 year old entrance. The new entrance experience will include a new 2-story building, restrooms, two plazas, outdoor classroom, natural play areas, and an event lawn before leading into the zoo exhibits. The existing entry will be re-purposed for group entry with a separate gathering zone. The new front entry plaza will allow room for queuing and ticketing before passing through the entry gates under the large canopy of the new main building which includes the gift shop, administrative offices and an education center. The large plaza past the gates will allow plenty of room for families and groups to meet with seating walls and a view into the zoo exhibits from the elevated plaza. Visitors will be directed around the natural play area and event lawn towards the exhibits.

GMC will also design a new Asian Passage area for the zoo which will include new habitats to house endangered Asian species such as the Malayan tiger, red panda, Komodo dragon and Sumatran orangutan.

Surveying being carried out in the Lidl car park. Their new store is due to open in February 2025, presumably this is preparatory work for redevelopment of the old store.
