How much work was it for a farm family to make a loaf of bread in the early nineteenth century? This was the question that a group of Clark University students tackled in the fall of 2021.The students studied a set of pearlware plates from the 1820s with images that depict the process of making bread from raising grain to baking a loaf. They then connected the plates with other objects from the OSV Collections and were even able to try their hands at some of the various processes that are shown on the plates with the help of our costumed interpreters. Their cumulating project was an exhibit based on all of their research, which they installed in the David Wight Community Gallery in February 2021.
