Star trails over the Civic Offices in Portsmouth City Centre.

This was my first bash at urban star trails and got me in a spot of bother (back in October) when the operator behind that camera decided DSLR + tripod = terrorist

You might remember from when I posted an earlier version of this pic, the police turned up mob handed and heavy handed, wouldn't listen to my protestations of innocence and detained me under Section 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000. Trouble was, those powers had been discontinued. Cue formal letter of complaint from me; cue official apology from Hampshire Constabulary.

I shot this in mono, with a green filter applied in camera (as opposed to on the lens). It worked to draw out the contrast on the building caused by the orange street lighting but I wish I had a colour version too - think the filter also ended up reducing the visibility of stars.

If you like how this shot turned out there's some good info on the long exposure tips blog to get you started with urban trails - no guidance for police intervention though ;)

40 minutes worth here. Would've been only about 20 had I been left to my own devices so I guess some credit has to go to the officers ;) Stacked in StarStaX for Mac then tried something new so layered onto the first frame in PS to retain EXIF - StarStaX strips the metadata otherwise.

i work at a beauty supply store.

i know nothing about beauty and supplies,

and i absolutely have no interest in beauty or supplies.

but i enjoy working there cos i like to smell fruity shampoos when i get bored.

i also love to act like a professional beauty supply gal.

all i do is wear all black and read out what it says on the back of the bottles.

people seem to believe i know a lot about the products.

it's fun.

I've started work on a 'Star Wars' interior set that I've been thinking about for a while, and that I'm pretty sure nobody else has ever built. It's just polystyrene and cardboard and it's quite small, so it will be the only 'permanent' set I've yet built.
