I would guess this is considered playful. Not having time enough to study them in person.

An alternative shot I did for the Macro Monday theme of Backlit, a decorated stone egg I brought back from Alaska, adorned with a pair of wolves, after I spent a month there on deployment to Eilson AFB with 5 Squadron Tornados in the 1990's.

Tonight is the night of the fullmoon. Where are the wolves?

My first photo that has been explored. Highest position: 105

Two wolves from the pack of eight at the Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Preserve. The captive wolves roam a 15 acre wooded enclosure and have minimal contact with humans. Photography and Viewing is only through one way glass and sightings are hit or miss. This day I was fortunate to see all 8 wolves.

A fantastic magic creature, called "alebrije", part of a street exhibition in the streets of Mérida.

Alebrijes (Spanish pronunciation: [aleˈβɾixes]) are brightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical (fantasy/mythical) creatures. The first alebrijes, along with invention of the term, originated with Mexico City artisan Pedro Linares. Linares often told that in 1936, he fell very ill, and while he was in bed, unconscious, he dreamt of a strange place resembling a forest. There, he saw trees, animals, rocks, clouds that suddenly turned into something strange, some kind of animals, but, unknown animals. He saw "a donkey with butterfly wings, a rooster with bull horns, and a lion with an eagle head", and all of them were shouting one word, "Alebrijes! Alebrijesǃ Alebrijes!" Before this happened, he was already a cartonero artisan. Upon recovery, he began recreating the creatures he saw in Cartonería, the making of three-dimensional sculptures with different types of papers, strips of papers and engrudo (glue made out of wheat flour and water).

A couple of wolves curled up playing while lying on the ground at the Hefei Wildlife Zoo. I'm generally depressed by zoos and animals in captivity, but this section of the Hefei Zoo was surprisingly good, with a really large space that the animals seemed to enjoy and a pedestrian bridge to observe them from above.

This photo was taken in the Chugach Mountains in Alaska.

An exhibit spotted at Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada.

These may be my weakest photos from technical standpoint..(lenses were not up to task -560mm) but the wolves were fabulous. Having only each other to depend upon at 30•below requires lots of snuggling for warmth as well as grooming each other.

The Hayden Pack broke off from the Mollies establishing a new group but without territory of their own, they are seen in many parts of the park, While other packs are more territorially stable.

The re-introduction has fierce advocates and naysayers, rangers report that "I'm getting a call from a rancher, yelling at me because the wolves are out and the killed some sheep," "The next phone call is from an animal rights person saying, 'You bastard! Burn in Hell, murderer of babies!' Then the next call is another rancher." Look on NOVA, the Nature channel for a new updateprogram on the Hayden pack, they are thriving! Other wolves think the Hayden Valley is just too damn tough, too cold. GEOTAG view full size.

They look kind of friendly, on second thought.....perhaps not.

Awesome day and awesome wolves in Husky Romi Wolf and Husky Sanctuary in Free State in South Africa

This afternoon, we visited ZooAmerica, an 11-acre zoo that's close to home. I was glad to see that the North American grey wolves were feeling frisky and playful. It may be a small zoo, but my SD card is very happy.

There were 19 wolves on this hillside in Yellowstone Park. I could only fit in this group of eight.

Gray Wolves howling in chorus at Alpha Parc located in the heart of the Mercantour National Park, Saint-Martin-Vésubie, France.

Wolves howl to assemble the pack (usually before and after hunts), to pass on an alarm (particularly at a den site), to locate each other during a storm or unfamiliar territory and to communicate across great distances.

When howling together, wolves harmonize rather than chorus on the same note, thus creating the illusion of there being more wolves than there actually are.

Since 1992, the wolves that had been exterminated in France over a hundred years ago are living here again. They kept migrating across the Italian ‘green border’. Today, there are 25 to 30 wolves divided into packs of five to six, roaming through the seven valleys of the park again.

Taken in Montana in deep snow.

This was taken at Haliburton Forest where they have a captive, wild pack of eight wolves. The wolves have minimal contact with humans and photography is only available through one way glass. Sightings are purely by chance as the wolves can freely roam their 15 acre enclosure.

Gray wolves are social animals, living and hunting in packs of 2-12. A typical pack is composed of an alpha male and an alpha female (the pack leaders), their pups, and several subordinate or juvenile wolves. The pack members exhibit close relationships and communicate with each other with a range of sounds including barks, whines, growls, and howls.

The more I think about it, the more I know that I need to go back and try this again. If I could have called out of work today... I would have been there now. Even if it is only 5 degrees. Yes... need to do this again!
