"The snow crunched noisily neath heavy boots of surprisingly supple leather. Through the bitter cold, she could feel them surrounding her. Just as well, she was here to hunt. Let them think they were the hunters... for now."

A midweek release of northern themed weapons by our new builder, Alyria Soulstar! I know I didn't show them off terribly well in this image, but I got carried away playing with snow effects for the first time.

Almost looks like she thought I'd make a great lunch lol but she was waiting for a treat. Info on Keara: KEARA WIHOPA is an ALASKAN INTERIOR TIMBER WOLF born in May 2004 and weighs about 75lbs. The name Keara is Celtic for “DARK HAIRED” and “Wihopa” is Native American for “BEAUTIFUL WOMAN”. Keara came from a facility in Ohio and is our shy but playful wolf. She is full of energy and is referred to as our “GRASSHOPPER” wolf because she LOVES TO JUMP. Keara and her companion Micah spend their days playing together.

Really loved this piece. Sublime, and I feel the meaning can be changed depending on how the wolves are placed in a space.

Wolves at Rocky Mountain Wildlife Park, Pagosa Springs, CO.

Taken at Parc Omega. I was too close to get both wolves in when this mild altercation took place.

The brave men and women of the 45th Azzuri Wolves are the best of the best. The "Standard Infantry" troops are shock troopers trained with the second best training the US ARMY can offer. They are epuiped with a standard M3-2W Assault rifle, gasmask, standard helmet, and a bavlanca. And the standard blue armor which is associated with the Azzuri Wolves Their counter parts the 46th Rosso Wolves wear red armor instead of blue.

Gas maks idea is "The Chef's".

Wolves of Yellowstone

The White Man must treat the beasts of this land as his brother.

What is man without the beasts?

if all the beasts were gone, man would die from a great loneliness of spirit.

For whatever happens to the beasts, also happens to the man.

Chief Seattle

They looked hungry ... very cooperative in posing, though.

A wolf of the Grant Creek pack linage, taken in the Highway Pass area of Denali National Park.

The Grant Creek Pack is in some disarray right now. A trapper trapped the alpha female this spring and the loss of an alpha can disrupt the entire pack of the alpha male doesn't pick a new mate in the pack. I heard both that the pack was disbanding and that the outcome was still undertain this weekend.

If they disband it will be unfortunate as this pack has worked alongside the road for the last several years and is the source of most of the wolf sighings in Denali.

USGS scientists examine thermal imagery of wolves for assessing impacts of sarcoptic mange on the survival, reproduction and social behavior of this species in Yellowstone National Park. Sarcoptic mange, a highly contagious canine skin disease, caused by mites that burrow into the skin causing infections, hair loss, severe irritation and an insatiable desire to scratch. The resulting hair loss and depressed vigor of an infected animal leaves them vulnerable to hypothermia, malnutrition and dehydration, which can eventually lead to death.

Note the bright red patch on the wolf's hindquarters in this thermal image of a captive wolf at the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. This is where fur was shaved to replicate the loss of fur associated with sarcoptic mange. The fur will eventually grow back. All research animals are handled by following the specific requirements of USGS Animal Care and Use policies.

We were watching for the wolves in the Lamar Valley of YNP when we came across three wolves on the left side of the road. As they ran ahead we followed in the chance the may cross the road and give us a much better view. They did cross and to our surprise there were 7 of them and they gave quite a show bouncing all over. Finally the crossed the Soda Butte River and moved further away from the road.

Pair of wolves seen on the second day chased off a caribou carcass by a bear.
