It almost looks like a piece of taxidermy, but it's not. This wolf stood here, perfectly still and posing for me, and waited while I changed the batteries in my camera.

This is the normal channel for the Wolf River at the Germantown Parkway bridge. I wish I had an picture of the river as it usually appears to show how dramatic this view really is. The river had already crested, close to a foot higher than had been expected, and had dropped about six inches according to the USGS workers monitoring the level at the bridge. The river was also about three times it's normal width as it flowed under the bridge. Although the river has crested, for now, there is more rain predicted for tonight and on into Monday. The Wolf river flows into the Mississippi river that is rising toward record levels, so there are less and less places for new

rainfall to go.

The following five images are all from the same area. I would have gone to other locations, but I only had an hour for my early lunch.

My wolf dog Chief. 4/2007

Born in captivity and donated from a zoo in Montana as there was a litter of pups and not enough room.

There used to be a parking area here for the the trails along the Wolf River that are now close to 10 feet underwater. The the flood farm field in the background if from the Agricenter International. By the way, if for some unknown reason you decide to park here, I would probably still take the warning seriously.

January 29 was the biggest and brightest full moon of 2010.

I shot this with my Canon 100-400mm lens (640mm effective), cropped it, and adjusted the color in post to bring out the details.
