Cercopithecus wolfi
The birth season for Wolf's Mona Monkey is from June through December due to rainfall and resource availability. It lives in a single male/multi-female group. It is female philopatric, with males dispersing from the group at sexual maturity. Because one male controls several females there is extreme competition for the alpha male position. Females, on the other hand, are generally amicable and participate in grooming and allomothering. Unlike macaques there are no strong linear dominance hierarchies.
Conspecific groups are generally intolerant of each other. Both males and females behave aggressively in intergroup encounters. They are very territorial, using calling and aggression (if needed). Females play an important role in territory defense; when they call it prompts the male to call as well.
Among cercopithecines, forest guenons such as Wolf's Mona Monkey have very developed cheek pouches. These cheek pouches are second only to macaques. The evolution of these cheek pouches in both genera may be a response to the increased potential for interspecific competition in the mixed-species associations which these monkeys frequently form

Shot my first wolve yesterday - of course only with the camera! Wolves are very beautiful and graceful animals but they like ripping sheep and that's a big problem.

Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre...
Featuring one-way glass windows, the Haliburton Wolf Centre is a building that overlooks the feeding area of the pack's enclosure. The wolves are in a 15 acre boreal forest compound and are free to roam about. We humans are restricted to a 150 foot viewing area.

This guy is behind a fence made of thin wire. I focussed this shot manually so the wolf would be in focus instead of the wire. I darkened the photo in picasa to make the wire less visible. I found the black and white option worked better with the extra processing required to make the wire as invisible as possible.

December 2014 - I took this picture at a wildlife park which only had native animals of northern Germany. As I was walking past this enclosure, I notices that a certain kept coming back to that area. And so I waited, and took this picture.

I'm posting some photos of wolves because I love wolves - they are absolutely fascinating for me.
These photos are taken in Tierpark Hellabrunn in Munich - the only possibility for me to see them with my own eyes. Although there is a wild wolf in the Bavarian Alps near Bayrischzell at the moment some 70 kilometres from Munich. They want to shoot him but now it's decided to let him live until end of winter... and then?!

Ich liebe diese Tiere, sie sind absolut faszinierend für mich. Derzeit lebt ein Wolf in der Nähe von Bayrischzell, ca. 70 Kilometer von München entfernt. Natürlich ist die Diskussion wieder losgegangen, ihn abzuschießen. Jetzt darf er aber erstmal den Winter überleben - und dann?! Ca. 40 wilde Wölfe sollen derzeit in Deutschland leben...
