my first two attempts at wire wool photography. Unfortunately my camera is dire and as the mist descended the images became less and less clear as the night went on. I will definitely be practicing this more when I have saved up for the Camera that I want!
The images were shot in total darkness off a bridge on Whitehouse Lane in Loxton, Somerset.
We use this wire at school in a practical about the properties of alloys. There's brass, copper and constantan, all the same gauge. Hang masses from them, see which stretches the most.
I found this tangled ball in a lab I was tidying and thought it looked really pretty :)

On New Year's Eve we lost the water at our house. We have an artesian well that is 360 feet deep. We didn't know if it was the pump or an electrical connection. I'm to cheap to call a plumber on New Year's day so I waited till Jan 2.Unfortunately we had gotten another foot of snow on top of the foot a couple of days earlier and the plumber's van wasn't dug out, yet. He came the next day but couldn't do anything as the temps were -10 F (-23C ). The pump had to be pulled out of the well and the 200 feet of pipe it was connected to had to be layed out on the snow. At -10F the pipe could have broken so we had to wait for the January thaw,which started Monday a week after we lost the water. Meanwhile we stomped out a 200 foot path in the snow with our snowshoes so we wouldn't sink 2 or more feet in the snow as we layed out the pipe, and hauled water for the flush, dishes and drinking water.
With the larger feather, and more shaft to work with, this time I found it easy to grab the wire and feather with the flat-nose pliers, and wrap the remaining wire around by hand. Part of the trick is that the wire is thinner than the feather shaft, so to hold both together, you really have to squash the feather. Otherwise, that dang wire will slide all over the place.
