Since there was no (completely) new winter themed set from LEGO this year, my LUG Swebrick decided to throw a contest to build a new Winter themed set.

This was taken while walking along a trail at Maywood Environmental Center (Sheboygan, Wisconsin).
It's a curious find, as there are no tennis courts nearby and dogs are not allowed in the wildlife refuge. I took multiple shots, but this one shows the green furry sphere in the middle of snowy valleys. It reminds me of one of the first science fiction books that I ever read-Andre Norton's the Time Traders where alien ships were buried by an ice age in our distant past.

This is a blend of two images. One exposed for the sunset, the other for the foreground. My first real go at doing this in PS. I am fairly happy with the result, I shall be improving my selection skills to make things even blend-ier. :)

Winter backpacking in the North Cascades. This is about five miles into the wilderness, no cell phone service, no running water. It was very very cold, but a fun experience none the less!
A winter storm warning was issued the night before over the ham radio, so we woke up right when the sun started to come up got out of there before it hit. We made it back to the car just as the snow started to come down heavily and the wind started blowing. Perfect timing!
This was taken juuust before the sun poked out over the hill.
