Winter time ... short grey days; long dark nights. In 10 days, with winter solstice, the trend reverses. YAY!

"Winter Snow Clouds" by Patti Deters. Winter weather this year has been cold and frosty. There were several days of heavy snow and once the sun came out you could still see the snow clouds in the distance. The trees and tall grasses were covered with a couple inches of the fluffy white stuff, creating pretty soft pastel landscapes everywhere, especially in the rural countryside. Illuminated by the crisp winter sun in Brugge, her steady gaze meets my lens—a mix of curiosity and quiet resilience. His focus, however, is elsewhere, as if caught mid-thought. Together, they create a moment of connection and contrast, sharing the light but telling different stories.

Hiking back to my truck across the unmaintained trails at Parker Mill County Park. I only encountered one other person (and a dog) in the park. Trudging through the snow was quite tiring. After loading up I discovered my truck was stuck. The wheels just spun helplessly on the ice and slush. My photo shoots are never without adventure. No one was around, it's getting dark, I'm tired, and I'm 5 miles from home. Fortunately I had a bag of sand. Pain in the @ss getting it out and sprinkling it under the tires, but I eventually got some traction. It was all worth it for the solitude of this winter wonderland.
