It felt chilly and frosty today so I dug into the archives for some frosty photos....just posting a bunch...
A close-up, macro-style shot capturing the delicate, dried seed heads of a late-blooming plant, likely a goldenrod or aster, now gone to seed. The soft white fluff and brown seed casings stand out sharply against a blurred, deep green background, which creates a wonderful sense of depth and focus. I wanted to evoke the quiet, fading beauty of autumn's transition into winter. The intricate, almost chaotic texture of the fuzzy seeds contrasts with the calm, subdued colours.
It's just frozen sky juice with the fun only to be had for 15 minutes outside and the rest of the time in the hot tub, or drinking by the fire or...
winter is coming
I haven't uploaded to MAM in a long while. My muse for all conceptual photography had abandoned me. Last night, however, "doodling" in photoshop with a couple of pictures the idea for this image began to take shape and emerge. I puttered with a bit today. I took Flea into the yard and sorted out the selfie to add to the the other components that were more or less already sorted and then played a bit with the colours and tones to get to the final image here.
Many thanks to those popping in and dropping comments on the lastest magic donkey ride. As always, I am flattered and stunned by what makes it into explore.
The weather here in Colorado is starting to change and that means the winter wonderland is on its way. The previous night there was a hoarfrost so the trees were covered in frozen crystals. It was about -12 below, but well worth the wait.
This female Northern Cardinal paused long enough for me to grab a few shots of her during our Backyard Fall Fest several months ago.
This weekend our area is expecting our first true taste of winter weather this season with temperatures dropping below freezing. And it's hinting to stick around for at least a few days. Now we are thinking about a Winter version of our Fall Fest, putting out all kinds of treats for our backyard visitors.
Can't help but wonder who'll show up this time and pause long enough for me to grab a few shots?

And it begins. Not the season premier of Game of Thrones haha but the first official day of autumn. I'll enjoy autumn as much as possible but I can't wait for my joyride in winter :p

Se acerca lentamente, con determinación y sin pausa. El invierno aguarda a que la última de todas ellas muestre su belleza antes de rendirse a su gélido aliento. Un adiós suave y silencioso.
Went to bed with it raining outside, woke up to a tonne of snow! Thankfully im working from home so no commute to the office! So enjoy the tree in my back garden along with a rainbow from earlier!
I was very impressed with how Norwegians are committed to maintain their public transport system in perfect state. We visited after the summer season had come to an end and everywhere structural works of repair and improvement were underway, guys working even on Saturdays and Sundays to get the much frequented bridges, roads and tunnels repaired and maintained. The roofs of our complex of Rorbuer cottages were all being repaired and repainted, the water supply mains repaired and maintained etc etc. Such a dedication to get things all clear because as we all know ... winter is coming! :)

I was tempted to name the image after the Coca-Cola advert, as it has the red truck and snow!
This picture also appeared on page 4 in today's The Times national newspaper.

The Riverlands is one of the constituent regions of the Seven Kingdoms. They have been a frequent battleground in the civil wars that have afflicted the Seven Kingdoms and also in the wars that took place between the old nations of the continent before the Targaryen Conquest. During the time of the First Men, the Riverlands were an independent kingdom known as the Kingdom of the Rivers and the Hills.
Located roughly in the center of the continent, and with few geographical boundaries such as mountains, for centuries it has been a borderland between surrounding strong kingdoms. The Riverlands were ruled by the ironborn at the time of the Targaryen Conquest, and Aegon the Conqueror's assault was assisted by a popular uprising led by House Tully.
For this reason, the Riverlands didn't have a king at the time of the invasion, and the Riverlands are not technically counted as one of the "Seven" Kingdoms (instead essentially making up the eighth "kingdom") . However, for administrative purposes, the Riverlands and their rulers are equal to any other region of the realm.
The Riverlands are dominated by the watershed of the Trident River, so-called because of its three major tributaries - the Green Fork, the Blue Fork, and the Red Fork - which converge at Ruby Ford in the east. The Green Fork is the northernmost, running north-to-south almost up to the Neck near the entrance to the Stark-held North. The Green Fork is only traversable via the castle-bridge complex known as The Twins ruled by House Frey. Thus, large armies attempting to move into or out of the North are faced with only two, predictable choices: travel along the Kingsroad as it crosses the Ruby Ford to the east, or cross the Green Fork at the Twins to the west, which requires paying an often steep toll to House Frey.
The Trident is one of the largest and most well-known rivers on the continent of Westeros. Technically it is three rivers which flow into one another just before they reach the Narrow Sea, several hundred miles north of King's Landing.
winter is coming ...
Eurasian Jay busy hoarding acorns around the base of a tree ready for winter, Ecclesall Woods, Sheffield.
The purest ice, transparent hummocks rising in all directions, endless fields of snow and mountains in the distance. Complete silence is uncomfortable for the urban ear. An awesome place!!!
I've been eagerly watching weather reports for my favorite mountains and high altitude getaways. While the fall colors are setting in down here, a lot of the places I have been keeping an eye on have taken on the white coat of winter. Count me as thrilled and excited. My favorite time of year is finally arriving. I'll be heading up for sure this weekend to go crunch through some snow drifts and get flakes caught in my eyelashes. Gotta make the most of it, for winter comes and goes way too quick.
