Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse

Ludington, Michigan

The Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse, built in 1924, stands as a striking landmark at the entrance to Ludington Harbor on the shores of Lake Michigan. Designed in a unique pyramidal Art Deco style, the 57-foot-tall steel-plated structure was built to withstand the lake's harsh waves and icy conditions. Originally equipped with a fourth-order Fresnel lens, the lighthouse served as a vital navigational aid for ships entering the busy port. It was manually operated by keepers until 1972, when automation took over. Today, the lighthouse remains an active navigational aid and is maintained by the Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association

at the moment I love these winter scenes, although it is cold outside.

There are a lot of roads up in the mountains. You usually don't notice them because they are not always easy to see. But then it snows. And every dirt road becomes a winter wonderland.

Winter Lantern Show "Journey To The East" at its new location at the SIUH Community Park Stadium, Staten Island

New-paint Amtrak 75, running about 20 minutes late, leads train #1105, the westbound Winter Park Express, through Arvada, Colorado, at 07:45, December 20, 2024. This is the first seasonal run of the popular ski train, which started earlier this year and will soon have more than the five cars shown here. The train carries skiers from Denver to the Winter Park Resort, about a two-hour journey.

I love it when the trees are like this. I remember one time last year when all meadows were covered in snow, there was a full moon illuminating the landscape. I was driving to work and I saw hares sitting in the snowing meadows. A crow landed on the tree which was frosted like this one. It was a fairy tale. I did not have a camera, or the opportunity to stop and take a picture, but I haven't seen a ladnscape as magical as that since.

Judge Magney State Park, about 25 miles south of Ontario, Canada....a favorite place to hike in the fall, have never done so in the winter.

I know you'll be groaning about winter images being posted....x....but couldn't resist.

Half hour hike up a very snowy trail, then 75 steps down to the waterfall area....followed by climbing a huge mound of snowy ice...didn't go to the top, didn't know how stable it was....and I saw this....you can even see behind the waterfall!

For much of the hike it was very silent...and then I heard the roar of the waterfall, hadn't known ahead of time if it'd be completely frozen or not. It's fed by the Brule River....half the water is diverted into the waterfall course; the other half is up the trail further and goes into a huge pothole called Devil's Kettle. Didn't get up that far this winter, next autumn I will.

IAN C....if you're peeking in here, I was very careful not to do anything foolish....^^:::::!!!!! so don't even think of asking....

Nothing is better than watching aurora borealis in winter on a layer of thin ice, with my tent nearby, I could go in there to warm up any time I want.
