For FPPF assignment: portrait by Window Light

This lighting happens naturally once in a great while in our upstairs bedroom.

At a certain time of the year, in the late afternoon when the Sun is in just the right spot, it goes through a little crack. Magnificently, it lights Barbie up on her shelf. there is a minor amount of PS, but this is natural light at its best.

time and time again, light from a window always proves to be the best. A beautiful model helps too.

a lot of stuff on the table, always.

I'm wildly practising for a wedding in September. I really don't want to disappoint so today I was using a silver reflector (camera left) and another underneath my subject (west facing window camera-right). Because I was using a wide aperture I thought I'd try to sharpen with high pass but when I switched on 'Overlay' I fell in love with my pic (whether rightly or wrongly) and decided to do nothing else with my image.

My part of town is unusually dark for a bright city, which is why these windows look particularly ominous.

Visited a friends old carriage house and found this chandelier gleaming against this old bench.

I intended to have a new self-portrait for today, as it is my birthday. Didn't get it done, so I'm reposting one from year 37. It was a good year.

So, now last night's photo experiments are explained. I had a client coming to the studio for some work and I wanted some fresh shots and ideas for her.

This model's name is Kim, and after a few nervous head shots to break the ice, we started working on some ideas I had, and some concepts she wanted to try. Overall, it worked out well, unfortunate, we never got a chance to try any outdoor shots due to a thunderstorm brewing up.

7yo and Daddy found this on a walk the other day. They like to go treasure hunting. Has anyone ever heard of Courtly? They might have sold shaving products.

Captured with just window light with no modifers.

Location was an empty patient room on the unit that we work on.

I thought that having a kid would mean having a model at any given moment. However, I think that he views being photographed as a form of torture. As soon as a camera comes out, he somehow disappears.

This image was caught as he sat at the computer. I thought the window light looked good so I tried to sneak a shot from the next room. Before I could get the camera set, he quickly dropped the headphones down over his face. This is the resulting image.

Hopefully, he will grow out of this so that his teen years will not be photoless.

Some light play upstairs on the ceiling after recording.

I tried to put the oranges on a plate with a cup in the background which also turned out well. I decide to just keep it simple and this was a copy of a picture i found to begin with. I though it turned out really well and the main focus is the orange in the front and i blurred the rest.

My very first concept shot. (I want her hair.) Taken in my tiny apartment with window light and my bathroom as a backdrop (held up with about 20 pushpins).
