It's easy to see which way the wind is blowing when there are two wind vanes on top of the mast.

I made some lightweight cars for my wind up engine. On my current track (comprised op 2 loops from an old 9v set) it will do the following:

by itself: make one lap

with one car: almost a full lap

with two cars: little over half a lap

I have ordered a loop of this old style track as I beleive it will give it better traction than my 9v track does.

I experimented with different tires and these worked out best (offset tread pattern)

However, the tires are loose on the wheels. I think I may sand them to rough them up and give the tire more grip... maybe even a small dot of super glue just for maximum track adhesion

I'm hoping to make a clever mini layout based entirely on this engine and possibly adding some other wind-up fun to it as well!

Very rainy day

Wind: From ESE at 41mph gusting to 49mph ripped the tarps on the Aerial Lift Bridge to shreds.

The waves were coming over the pier walls last night. The sidewalks were full of water/slush and ice was growing on everything the water could touch. It was really "cool". . . and windy.

What would be a better way to spend a summer evening than with good music, a beautiful setting and perfect weather? We joined friends of ours for an evening of jazz at the Edith Wharton house in Lenox, Massachusetts. The wind was actually calm, the concert was free and there was a cash bar.

Next to my head is my Hyperlite 2400 Windrider large white backpack that weighs 28.2 oz (799 g).

This was my first time sleeping cowboy style and boy was it fun. What a perfect spot, sandy rock bottom, no ants or bugs. Looking up at the stars as I fell asleep was magical but a 3/4 moon, half way through the night, was a little bright for my taste. I discovered that this was a favorite hangout for a particular species of spider the next morning. I did not have any spider bites but a did a number on my little toe by grinding it against the rough uneven sandstone at night when I got up to relieve myself. A three inch diameter blood stain was on the rock along with three progressively fainter stains nearby. My toe was a little sticky when I got back into bed but I thought it was just a minor scratch.

There is a Thermarest sleeping pad under the quilt but I am looking to get a lighter closed-cell foam pad instead.

Unfortunately, I lugged the tent along for no reason.

WInd power is the power source of choice at the old Callington MIll, Oatlands, Tasmania, Australia.
