The gardens are a haven for wildlife – bees, butterflies and small birds as well as moor hens, ducks and a black swan. Then, of course, the plants! Borders overflowing with perennials and annuals – the look changing through the seasons, but always abundantly filled, and each garden ‘room’ planted in a different colour theme.
Pashley is also renowned for fantastic displays of tulips, roses and dahlias. Our annual Tulip Festival features more than 48,000 tulips this year! During Special Rose Week over a hundred varieties of rose swathe the walls, climb obelisks and bloom in flower beds. Then in late summer our Dahlia Days event transforms the gardens once more with bountiful, brightly coloured dahlias in every border and pot.

Autour de la place de la fontaine-aux-Lions-de-Nubie, Will Ryman érige sept sculptures de « têtes » jaune soufre, allant de trois à sept mètres de haut. De facture abstraite et dotée d’ouvertures de tailles diverses (ou « yeux »), chacune est délibérément imparfaite. Façonnées dans l’argile puis moulée dans la résine, les Heads portent des titres tirés de répliques d’En attendant Godot de Samuel Beckett (1948). Écrit à l’origine en français, puis traduit en anglais par Beckett lui-même en 1953, les thèmes universels et philosophiques de la pièce n’ont rien perdu de leur pertinence.

Die dänische Naturbehörde rechnet im November 2017 aufgrund der inzwischen nur noch 8 Meter betragenden Entfernung des Turmes zum Meer mit dem baldigen Sturz des Gebäudes in die Nordsee. Sollte die Entfernung auf 5 Meter schrumpfen, wird aus Sicherheitsgründen der Zugang zum Turm gesperrt. Ein Wintersturm kann schon diese Situation herbeiführen. Die Naturbehörde als Eigner will dem Sturz ins Meer zuvorkommen und das Gebäude abbauen.[6] Politiker der Gemeinde Hjørring beschlossen im Herbst 2018, den Turm 60–80 Meter in das Landesinnere zu versetzen. Die Dänische Regierung stellt dafür 5 Millionen Kronen zur Verfügung. Es fehlt noch eine Firma, die für diese Summe den Auftrag annimmt.
The Danish nature authority expects in November 2017 due to the now only 8 feet amount of the tower to the sea with the impending fall of the building in the North Sea. Should the distance shrink to 5 meters, access to the tower will be blocked for security reasons. A winter storm can bring about this situation. The nature authority as owner wants to forestall the fall into the sea and dismantle the building. Politicians of the municipality Hjørring decided in autumn 2018 to move the tower 60-80 meters into the interior of the country. The Danish government is providing 5 million kroner. There is still missing a company that accepts the order for this sum.

I will introduce You the city of Grasse in Southfrance during the next days. Since the 16th century that city is wellknown for the producing of perfumes. There are still some quite important perfumefactories located here. It became famous because of the novel (and the screen adaption) "The perfume" by Patrick Süßkind. I recommend to read this very good book before comming here the first time. It will give you a much closer access to what You find here and You can see more than just the tourist attraction.
In den nächsten Tagen möchte ich hier die Stadt Grasse in Südfrankreich vorstellen. Bereits seit dem 16. Jahrhundert ist die Stadt ein bekannter Ort der Parfümherstellung. Es befinden sich noch immer einige sehr bekannte Parfümhersteller hier. Berühmt wurde Sie durch den Roman (und die Verfilmung) "Das Parfüm" von Patrick Süßkind. Ich empfehle jedem, der zum ersten mal hierher kommt vorher dieses sehr gute Buch zu lesen. Das verschafft einen viel intensiveren Zugang zu dem, was man hier vorfindet und man sieht mehr als nur die Touristenattraktion.

There will always be brighter days ahead. Sometimes I get too focused on the now, and see only the darkness. Today for instance, the stock market is down; the Omicron variant is causing another winter Covid scare; the politics in Washington is rancorous; rumors of wars, rumors of this, rumors of that. And yet, brighter days will surely come again. Back in August of 2015, the sun was shining brightly on the Bean in Chicago. It may be dark outside now, but the sun will surely shine again.

Spent a bit of afternoon yesterday sitting on a porch with some friends watching, hearing, and feeling a fairly intense and present gully-washing thunderstorm.
When all was cleared, I headed for my truck and spied these viny-weedy things by the barn. I'd walked by them several times yesterday, but contrary to my norm, hadn't even noticed them. Now they were sparkling beneath the lightening sky and, I think, even whispering slightly above the sound of the drizzle on the ground.
When the sun re-emerges after the storm, it doesn't immediately dry up the rain. But it does make it beautiful.
Fresh, clean, bright, and glistening.
