...When Maori first pulled canoes onto the shores of Aotearoa, or New Zealand as it is known, about 800 years ago, they stepped into a giant time capsule. Until then New Zealand had been on its own in the middle of the southern ocean. Giant birds standing three metres tall, eagles capable of killing humans, huge insects, primitive animals and ancient forests greeted these early settlers. Wild Aotearoa is a collection of photographs, the work of wildlife photographer Jonathan Harrod, which highlight the beauty and uniqueness of New Zealand’s wildlife. For the last four years Jonathan has travelled throughout New Zealand in search of these rare photographs of our unique wildlife. These photos represent New Zealand today and tomorrow they will become a part of our natural history.
These photos are a small selection of limited edition photographs from the ‘Wild Aotearoa’ collection which will be exhibited in Christchurch in early 2013. Each limited edition photograph is printed on the finest archival quality museum grade canvas which has been protected with the latest scratch and UV resistant coating. These limited edition prints are printed to order and every purchase will receive a signed limited edition purchase sheet.

I admit it: wild turkeys are still a bit of a novelty with me. This one of two rafters of turkeys that hang out near the entrance to Stony Creek Metropark, north of Detroit.
A few miles north of Limpia Canyon, in a remote part of Reeves County sits the highest point on State Highway 17. Known as Wild Rose Pass, this beautiful spot is one of the most memorable on the long drive from Fort Davis to Balmorhea.
My female Turkey apparently got herself a boyfriend (above). He was pretty skittish the first week or two that he came around with her, but soon figured out that I wasn't fast enough to catch him. Here, he is just lounging in the grass right in front of my blind/cave.
This is my attempt to play with composition, but you sort of have to take what they give you.
Wild turkeys are now fairly widespread in the Kootenays and are slowly moving west into the Okanagan.
