Just under 100 kilograms now - whoop!

When you were a child, it is likely you spent a lot of time in a swimming pool, if not in a lake, a river or the lovely beach. Enjoying the water with your family and friends was so enjoyable that you probably didn't understand how helpful the low impact exercise was for your health. Each time you go for a swim, you're exercising every single muscle throughout your body, whilst getting a wonderful cardio workout. Should you dislike the large impact force on your joints from jogging or running, swimming will probably be your perfect strategy to lose stomach fat rapidly.....http://goo.gl/bsWdyZ

In the past 6 months, I have successfully dropped 60 Pounds. I currently weigh 190lbs; I'm under 200lbs for the first time in over 10 years. The pants in these shots are size 42 (waist), and were the pants that I began this journey in. I literally walked 'through' them; there's a rather large hole in the crotch area where the friction from going walking every night wore a hole through the fabric. When I began, 42's were a comfortable fit, 40's were too tight to put on.

Now, I use the 40's as my 'walking pants', but they *require* a belt when wearing them otherwise they fall off me with absolutely no effort.

I've dropped 4 pant sizes and am fitting comfortably into a size 36 today. 38's are nearing the point where a belt is advisable to prevent a wardrobe malfunction. I have not fit into a size 36 since high-school (at least); that was almost 15 years ago.

When I set forth on this mission, my goal was originally to be down to 180lbs by today, but some speedbumps along the way (specifically in August, where I lost almost nothing for the entire month, despite going out every night & upping both my walking speed *and* distance) prevented me from getting there.

I've utilized a few different running apps (SportsTracker & RunKeeper) for my Android smartphone to track my progress. I started walking June 1st, and at that time my walks were short and slow. I remember coming off the field, dripping in sweat after a mere 2-3kms, thinking how a 5km walk seemed daunting. An average speed of 6km/h seemed almost impossible.

Today, I average 7-8km distance and 7.5-8km/h speed daily.

Walking played a key role, but so did diet. All of this stemmed from an urgent need to reduce my blood pressure, so we've (Ange & I) been very proactive about cutting sodium out of our diet, making healthy dinners at home (and not 'out of a box/can'), and making smart decisions when it comes to snacks. We use NO BBQ sauce, we use NO soya sauce, we actively seek out low-calorie/low-sodium salad dressing for salads, and we have a newfound love for spinach. Changing our diet forced us to get creative with what we prepare for ourselves to eat, and we've come up with some fantastic things that have quickly become a staple in our diets.

I can say with great confidence that I have had "fast food" (ie: burger & fries) 3 times (La Belle Province in Montreal, Burger @ the Saddledome, and my recent McRib bait-and-switch a few weeks ago) in the past 6 months, and yes, I felt disgusting afterwards each time.

For years (no thanks to the theatre days) the only thing I would ever drink was pop, and not even anything 'diet'. I lived on the caffeine, not unlike many computer/gaming nerds. Today, 3-5L of water a day is normal for us, and I've come to love the refreshment of a cold bottle of water just as much, and perhaps moreso, than the bubbling fizz of a bottle of pop.

Props to Ange too, she's down about 40 pounds since she started taking her workouts more seriously.

If someone would have told me a year ago that I'd be under 200lbs and love drinking water and eating spinach (mostly raw, btw), I would have laughed without giving it a second thought. But here I am, and I still have more to lose!

It's amazing what you can do when you commit yourself to something. The key to this whole journey has been uncompromising discipline. It's easy to find excuses not to stay committed, but ANYTHING worth doing is NEVER easy. In my case, I was staring down the barrel of heart problems & who knows what else. My Mom died of cancer (her 2nd time around) at 49, my grandfather dropped dead in the snow from heart failure in his early 40s(-ish). My Dad has been fighting his blood pressure for many years; it's in our family. I simply asked myself: do I want the same fate? Because the path I was on would have taken me there. The time to change is NOW. Today, not "starting next week" or "after this pack of cigarettes". In recent years I've come to learn that the universe isn't going to give me an inch, or a day off. I have to fight for it every single day. So ask yourself: is it worth fighting for, right now?

If you want it bad enough, it becomes real easy to NOT find excuses to not stay committed.

Not saying I haven't had periods where I didn't want to go out to that field every night, and bad weather is always a readily-available excuse, but I went anyway and grinded it out.

I walked a 12km night in the middle of a rain/hail storm. I was nearly mugged in the park a month ago by some punks who wanted to start shit. It didn't matter, I remained committed to my goal, and let nothing stop me. Excuses are simply not an option.

It's been an amazing journey thus far, but I'm not done yet. I have much more I want to accomplish with my health; this is only the beginning of fighting to be the best "me" I can be.

This is only the beginning. Can't wait to see where we are May 16th. ;)

It looks like it wouldn't take much to convert this weight loss tool into a sander.

Nicotine is a small plant-based alkaloid that easily dissolves in water and non-polar solvents. This does not mean that all plant-based molecules, or mixtures of molecules, can get across the skin and there's no evidence that herbal diet patches are of any use beyond extracting money from your wallet. Avoid.
