Equipped with a Timex Weekender wristwatch for, appropriately, a weekend hike on the Raven Trail in Kanab, Utah USA.
The Timex Weekender, model T2N745, does exactly what I want a wristwatch to do: it keeps time accurately, displays the time clearly, and I never have to think about it or worry about it. This isn't a fashion or "jewelry" watch to pamper, it's a functional watch to use. Through dirt, dust, mud, and water it does the job. Not too big so it doesn't get in the way, but not so small as to be hard to read, with no extra buttons and no excess gadgetry to clutter up the face, not even a date window, the simple, minimalist Weekender is definitely one of my favorite wristwatches ever.

I will admit that I made this bag for myself (I know that seems wrong as we approach the holiday season), but this was definitely my most complicated sewing project to date and I wanted to do a trial run first. Now that it has turned out fairly well (and I learned a lot in the process) I'm ready to make some for gifts. I even have fabric and a victim (I mean, recipient) picked out!

It also would be really nice if you name " www.barelynoticed.de " as the source of the picture. Have fun!

Hourglass block messenger bag Here're some initial inspiration pics. I love the paper pieced blocks for their summer/holiday theme, and I love coffee any day so seemed like a good idea to include it. For colours I'm thinking of using a lot less white than I usually do and mostly blue and green but other colours are welcome ;) I don't expect paper pieced blocks at all, I would be happy with simple blocks in my colours or with fabrics that evoke summer, holidays or adventure.

I think this is my last one. My sister is the last of "the girls" to get married. I really like this one. I was tell my husband that I kinda like it better than the one I made for me. :)
I can't believe I finally finished this bag, what an accomplishment! So much blood, sweat and tears...ok, no tears really but definitely sweat and I did draw blood a couple times this week. Definitely worth it though!
made with home dec fabric (JoAnns). I made the straps a little longer so that I could carry the bag on my shoulder comfortably.
Amy Butler pattern. Not quite finished as I need to make the lining bag.
Is a real pain to sew together - but am pleased with the pattern matching on the front pockets.
Fabric - Ikea
Notes for next time:
1) Buy prepared cording - have seen some lovely velvet stuff. You can wonderweb the piping together, but unless you have the really narrow stuff for bias binding strips it won't be as neat as machine basting it. - Or buy a piping foot, I have since bought one of these and am definitely a convert!
2) Use a busier or less contrasty fabric so any topstich wonkage doesn't show (or use less coarse fabric so the stiching isn't affected by the grain).
3) Wonderwebbing on the timtex around the edge is a winner and a lot cheaper than flexi-firm fusible interfacing.
4) Using a firm fusible interfacing to hold the bottom timtex panels in place saves stitching bulk.
5) Leather needles are magic for sewing so much bulk together.
6) The pattern fits together really well, but if you have any spare bulk then spread it around the bottom corners/hide it where the pocket meets the base panel.
7) Reinforce the straps in place with much more sewing than the pattern says.
8) Don't bother hunting for a non-separating zip - just sew the ends together and make the zipper opening a little smaller so you can sew the ends into place.
