'Blockhead Sculpture' and 'Daddies Bighead’ are inflatable sculptures. ‘Daddies Bighead’ is based on a ketchup bottle. Ketchup is a pivotal motif through all of McCarthy's work. He uses ketchup in his performances and installations along with mayonnaise and chocolate as stand-ins for bodily fluids and excretions. These grocery staples of domestic family life are transformed in McCarthy, born 1945, represent a Western World of violence, perverted sex and defecation to show the shallowness and duplicity of our image of happiness based on the all-pervasive Western media entertainment and consumer constructed conventions. His work distorts and mutates the familiar into the disturbing and carnivalesque.
McCarthy first became known in the 1970s for his visceral performances and film works but during the 1990s he extended his practice into stand alone sculptural figures, installations and a series of large inflatable sculptures.
‘Blockhead’ is based on the character of Pinocchio, but this popular Disney children's character is mutated into a grotesque form. Its size physically overpowers the viewer, putting the adult at a child’s level, questioning conventional Western World fake constructions.
The big, somewhat hilarious sculpture, big balloon 'Daddies Bighead', can be seen as a visualization of maleness. Disney Pinocchio character’s innocence is replaced by masses of pink with female breasts and male phalluses. It could easily by the symbol of the general male surfing for his daily dose of porn. It’s an attack on the sugary unrealistic world Disney and other generally accepted mass media represent and which we widely accept.
McCarthy uses gory representations of sexuality to question Western World fake, romanticized view of itself. These works may seem innocent at a first glance, but when you add them to his other works, his messages just may sink in.

I got my second tattoo yesterday. It took three hours and I was tearing up at the end of it! The coloring hurt so much. He asked if I wanted to come back when it was healed to do it but I just wanted to get it over with! I was practically whimpering. I'm sort of a baby. More detailed shot in the comments.
I decided I want this to be my 52 weeks instead.

This gorgeous old dog belongs to a young friend. It follows him everywhere! Like all dogs Cossie likes company and will walk great lenghths across their farm to follow the activity...
I only wish my daughters had a dog when they were growing up...
For the second year in a row, I attended the Seymour, WI "Hot Air Balloon Rally" (and Hamburger Festival). And...for the second year in a row...the ascension of the first balloon gave me chills on an otherwise hot day. These things absolutely fascinate me! I would be terrified to ride in one, since thin fabric and wicker seem to be the only thing keeping these buggers afloat. It's a delightful mystery to me!
My dream hot air balloon shot would be taken laying on my back, photographing the balloon and basket from below as it ascends skyward. Unfortunately, entering the launch field wasn't permitted until all balloons returned to the site after their flights and were secured. So...as the sun set, we were given the "go ahead" to approach the balloons, check out the rigging and speak with the pilots.
I entered the area with my fish-eye lens, set my butt on the ground and pointed my camera skyward to get this shot.
Adding my child-like fascination for these amazing flying vehicles to the weekly folder.
unfortunately, i didn't have time to take actual double/multiple exposures on film this week. so here is my digital version for this week's theme: multiple exposure, so this is also 32/52.

Yesterday in Jacinto Arauz Province of La Pampa, Argentina There was a meeting of old cars. Where with my friend Monica etcheverry went and photographed these beauties.
Barn in Mooresville NC at sunset - the cows wouldn't pose for me and the sun was hiding.
Shot in HDR 12 photos, merged to 4, merged to the panoramic. While not technical, or aesthetically perfect, it was a first for me. All done in Lightroom CC.
Today is my day off, and I always try to do some food photography - although the sun really wasn't co-operating, so I used a gold reflector - and added a warming filter in pp.
Anyway, I combined food photography and rule of thirds - for the Project. The open pea pod is in the rule of thirds.

Colourful Landscape - Dogwood week 32
Picture highlights from two weeks in Exmoor.
Struggled with my photography over these two weeks didn't get as many shots as usual for a holiday.... hope you like some of the highlights.....
I met up with a model who also somewhat of a nerd and gamer, so we thought it would be fun to do a gamer girl oriented shoot. The owner of the local arcade, 1984, was happy to let us shoot inside, which was awesome.

Post production in Lightroom and Photoshop.

This week has been miserable weather! It's the middle of August - we're supposed to be out taking photos, walking around in flip-flops but no - it's pouring it down! I though this photo explains the week: waiting inside looking out the window for the rain to stop!
I must confess I don't like seaweed and especially when it's lying at the edge of the sea all slimy and wet!!

So, here is my axe, freshly sharpened, resting on its test paper.
For the 52 Weeks for Dogs expression challenge. Gracie has a most expressive nature, always letting us know exactly what's on her mind. I love that about her. This is her gentle scolding expression, telling me she loves me but that the camera seriously needs to get out of her face so she can chase squirrels undisturbed.
